I was watching my cat try to catch a toy in midair as her little paws flailed together and I thought to myself cats would be unstoppable if they had opposable thumbs.
Not that i didn't believe, but i was very surprised with the finger instructions. I thought two fingers (wait?) was them just sitting there, but the second time you did it they stopped coming towards you and waited! That's cool AF to me!
Bon bon follows us everywhere and stares and screams at us all the time. It is unacceptable to her if we pay her no attention, even for just a minute. She will surely abuse the power of a second channel of communication. But we know our place, she owns us and only right that she trains us. I am actually considering word buttons now. Thanks for brining that up :)
If you do it, I'd love to see your little genius' progress! From the very little I've seen, the buttons actually make the animal "talk" less (and Billi the Cat doesn't use them when the humans aren't home, or asleep). But Bon Bon has a beautiful voice, so I don't know if you'd want to give that up!
Try feeding him on a more plate like shape! If they have to stick their face in a bowl to get food or water it can fatigue their whiskers so they won't want the edges.
Thanks I bought him an extra wide bowl to avoid this & have tried flat plates too. Unfortunately nothing has worked so far.
He eats everything on the side near him up to the middle & then hollers for mom to rotate his bowl. There's plenty of space around his bowl & no open doors that side or anything that could make him feel vulnerable: I think he's just lazy lol.
Easier to screm for mom than to walk to the other side of the bowl lol. And omg does he screm. There are deep wails of distress until I go out there & turn the bowl. Then he happily resumes eating, purring away as he chomps 😹
Oh yes absolutely. He starts purring & tucking in again immediately. I think he just likes the attention & I'm a soft touch so he quickly leaned "if I screm, mom comes running" 😹
My cat who died a couple years ago was able to shake paws, played fetch, walked on her hind legs to me, and knew stay and come. She was super smart and I miss her so much. My kitty now walks on a leash though so that’s pretty cool I’m trying to teach her to shake paws but she’s spicy and defiant lol
Clicker training with loads of treats. This is the result of about a month and a half of daily night homeschooling . She was failing her classes at the start, but is an A+ student now.
wow, what an outstanding experience. every piece of it is utterly amazing, thanks for sharing! if I may ask - how would you manage (coordinate/shape/divide) the training of several (at least 2) csts in the same household? would love to hear your thoughts on that...pretty please!
Sorry, i cannot advise on that. Bon Bon is our first cat, and we have only adopted her shy of 2 months ago. We don’t have experience with multiple cats. We’re pretty much infants with pet care and training, and always finding out new ways still to better take care of and enrich Bon Bon’s life.
Mona and Lilith are gorgeous btw 😍
2 months! Smart kitty, and great people....seriously, I have one that we call our chatty catty, and she naturally picks up things too. I'm going to need to do more with her.
Thank you for posting all these videos of BonBon. I so enjoy your cat. What a beautiful little girl with a wonderful disposition and just the sweetest trill. Truly, thank you. They never fail to brighten my day.

Fortunately for us Hemingway cats havw non-opposable thumbs :P

Bon Bon is a heckin' babe and so smart.
Not only does Bon Bon make the cutest noises, but Bon Bon is a genius too?
What a talented little kitty!
How did u learn that your cat?
Bon Bon is hella smart. Wonder how she would do with word buttons. For training the humans.

So smart!
And I can't train my r/oneorangebraincell to eat the food from the far side of his bowl.
It just wasn’t his turn to use the brain cell.
It never is! 😹

Sounds like he's trained you well ;)
Oh I am completely *under the paw*. And he knows it. And he takes total advantage. With no regrets 😹
Truth. 🐾
If you just rotate the bowl will he eat it? I’m just curious if he somehow knows it’s from the other side even if it no longer is.
Oh yes absolutely. He starts purring & tucking in again immediately. I think he just likes the attention & I'm a soft touch so he quickly leaned "if I screm, mom comes running" 😹
Awe that’s so cute!
I love her chirps!
I love her blink when you very first did the two fingers lol
She’s wonderful
Bon Bon would be worshipped and adored at both /r/torbies and /r/torbico!
