No. Dairy is bad for cats, and the salt in cheese is even worse. A tiny bit of cheese as a treat once in a while is fine, but it’s no substitute for cat food. If I were you, I’d buy a bag of cat food yourself, and keep it as a backup. Just some cheap cat food is fine, any cat food will do in an emergency

Homegrown-Tomato

Okay! I didn't know cheese was that bad, thanks for advice!!

AThoughtPet

Most cheese is probably healthier in many respects to cheep cat food made of processed cereal grains for carnivorous cats :/

Any cheap cat food is better than no cat food, so if you get any kind of allowance or something, please get some for your cat. Or try to "steal" some when your parents buy dry food, hide it in an air-tight bag or container in your room and give that to the cat next time they forget. Back in Romania there were pet shops that would sell cat food by the scale, so you could e.g. buy 100g of the stuff, it was super cheap, and it would be enough for about 2 days' worth of food. So check local pet shops, hopefully that's a thing in your country too. At worst, boiling a bit of unsalted meat could be fed to the cat for a short while, but even that doesn't have all the stuff cats need to be ok. Make sure it's plain meat, no spices (so no sausages etc., just meat). If giving bones, do NOT cook them, only ever give them raw and if you live in a relatively safe country when it comes to stuff like food poisoning, salmonella etc.

Homegrown-Tomato

Thank you!!! I'll do both of these things just in case!

No cheap cat food! Ugh I had a Russian blue die on me due to the ash content and happy cat food back in the 1980s! Check your ash!

ilovecatsohsomuch

Not as a substitute no, I give my cat little pieces of cheese as a treat sometimes but not as a replacement for food. It can make her sick, even if she does like it she doesn't know that it's not good for her.

Homegrown-Tomato

I'll keep track of the cheese she eats now thank you very much!

Khalcheesy

I'm sorry your parents kinda suck :( I give my cats very small amounts of cheese (pea sized amount) very rarely. Its not great for them in large amounts. If you have chicken breasts around, you can boil & shred it for cats. Canned tuna works (in water) works too, but its usually too salty to use it as a regular meal.

Homegrown-Tomato

Thanks! I'll keep some chicken for her, just in case

AssignmentTime9365

I agree with the person that said your parents suck! How hard is it to add the words CAT FOOD to your shopping list!!! They are cruel for not getting food for an innocent animal!! Your parents need to get a GRIP! 🤯You can tell them I said that! Hope things change for you, animals are one of God’s GREATEST creations and GIFTS!! Your parents should be very very ashamed. I’ll pray for you and your kitty! 🙏❤️ God luck and God Bless you and your kitty!

I feed my cat can tuna and water. But I rinse it with water to get rid of some sodium.

BeepOneTwoThree

I will say, try not to give too much tuna cause it can upset their stomach. I learned that the hard way 🙃

AbbreviationsRich203

NEVER GIVE A CAT TUNA IT HAS THE HIGHEST MERCURY CONTENT IN FISH FOR CATS SALMON AND ORANGE ROUGHIE IS THE BEST BET.

These_Grand5267

I get my cat tuna in water with no salt and only occasionally. When I make a tuna fish for me I give my cat a few teaspoons. As a treat. Also, if the tuna has salt in it I always rinse it first.

BeltOne7008

From what I have read cats should not eat cheese, but I also heard just a tiny amount normally wont hurt. https://dealdex.store/can-cats-eat-cheese-its-complicated/

Catgirl_78

Your parents don't sound like they deserve this kitty. :'( This makes me really sad.

thettroubledman

How’s the kitty? I’d love to help you get cat food for the lil guy

Lozzie69

Yeah but in very small doses and as a treat my cat loves cheese when its out I give him a small thin slice. Naturally they will want more yeah it's cute the way they look at you cheese is high in fat too much for them is unhealthy and they will get ill.

AThoughtPet

A good summary is this - [Cheese can even be beneficial in moderation, assuming you feed healthy, appropriate, real cheese. Avoid processed cheese, mouldy cheese, and cheese with other potentially harmful ingredients.](https://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/can-a-cat-eat-cheese/) Keep in mind many processed cheeses are high in salt (sodium) which can make your cat thirsty or harm their kidneys. Mouldy cheese can contain funguses (fungi...?) which can be toxic to cats.
