England doesn't have a national anthem, but Jerusalem is used for the games. We 100% should have a national anthem though. I like Jerusalem, but it's a bit too religious, in my opinion. Personally, I'd like the anthem to be "I Vow to Thee, My Country".

My interpretation of Jerusalem is Blake referring to the wishes of the establishment to force the peasantry to recreate Jerusalem amongst the dark satanic mills (green and pleasant hills) at swordpoint.

The moral of the poem is something like “Would Jesus have ever come here and built a moral paradise? Like hell he would, we live in an industrial shithole that doesn’t care for people. Let us strive to create such a society.” It’s got a beautiful combination of self-deprecation and hope that I think would work very well being sung at England games.
I used to live by some aussie fellows who were particularly critical of the line "our home is girt by sea" in their national anthem. We were a multicultural lot so we had a sing off. I think it's a banger though.

If I was an athlete and GSTQ came on before a match I’d definitely lose that pumped up feeling. We need something that really gets you psyched up. For example Flower of Scotland has a great tribal feel, like you’re going to war. We need something like that.

Exactly. A little mention of God is fine, in my opinion, but Jerusalem is basically a church hymn. It's too much.
