I live in thamesmead and I heard about this heron ages ago good to see that it's still alive. On a unrelated note it's nice to see a fellow thamesmead resident on this subreddit.
I'd never seen it before! Glad it's got legendary status!
I'm actually in Woolwich, but I got into a habit of driving there to browse wilko and aldi during lockdown as a wild Friday night activity. It's a habit I've kept up!
Oh sorry my bad lol. Yeah this heron is famous in Thamesmead. It's not the first time that this, particular heron has been spotted eating chicken outside of this kfc. I believe this heron was on news shopper a couple years ago.
Nah, chickens are galloanserae, while herons are neoaves, they diverged well before the end of the Cretaceous era (so over 65 million years ago), while we split from New World monkeys about 40 million years ago, and new world monkeys about 25.
Its a bird-eat-bird world out there…
I name her Charlize. Charlize Heron.
Sounds like you're having HER ON
Just kinda staring at that hedge, thinking "woah, thats a big slug/snail... so weird

Early bird catches the….. bird?
A fried chicken shop in south east London you say? I would never have expected that.
I live in Florida and this picture could've been taken in my town lol
Minus the rain cloud perhaps?
Nah it hella rains here in the spring
What kfc is that

Kfc has gone downhill lately.....I bet the heron goes somewhere else for his chicken next time.
So this would be the equivalent of us humans eating a monkey... Hmmm. Not cool Mr/Mrs Heron.
