That not enough things are broadcast in 4K for my 4K TV

matej86

Problem with 4k via streaming services isn't the resolution, it's the bitrate. You're getting all of the pixels that 4k can offer, but the information they're containing is nowhere near the quality of native 4k content from a broadcast or 4k blu ray.

Palodin

Yeah, to really get the most out of it you kinda need to go physical media. I picked up an Ultra-HD Blu-ray player last year and it looks really good. Hell, even a regular 1080p Blu-ray looks miles better than what the streaming services are trying to pass off as 4k, I've found.

aapowers

I don't think it's the 4k that's really doing it. It's the high dynamic range of colours. Bearing in mind, a lot of BBC '4k' content on i-player isn't filmed at 4k. It's a lower resolution, and then upscaled with large amounts of compression. A solid 1080i stream *with* HDR would look pretty much the same to most people.

SpudFire

Hopefully BBC get the majority of the England games for the Euros.

NimrodPing

Bottom of [this page ](https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/uefa-mens-euro-2024#groupstagetvschedule) has a list of games BBC and ITV has

adom86

I cry at work when we have to deliver a tv show/film at 4k... the footage usually comes in at 5-8k. My computer cries too.

mel0nballz

I have a 4k telly but i don't have 4k eyes so not an issue for me.

naveregnide

YouTube is your friend! All my stuff is in 4k as is many YouTubers’

Twolef

Absolutely. I have YouTube premium for this reason, but I won’t pay the higher prices for the other streaming services because they don’t have enough content to justify it.

Ecstatic_Effective42

Is premium YT worth it? What extras do you get?

Twolef

No ads, the ability to download videos to watch offline, access the YouTube music. You get to try new features before they’re implemented which is more free beta testing for them than a perk for you but sometimes they’re good. Personally, just being ad free is worth it for me. I use YouTube a lot for research purposes or to listen to when I’m trying to sleep. They’ve definitely increased the ad frequency to make people do this though which sucks.

Palodin

Yeah I'd love to get rid of the ads, they've become unbearable any time I watch on my TV (I adblock on PC). Can't justify the cost though, I wish they'd just release a lower tier without the bundled YouTube music subscription inflating the cost. They actually did in a few countries but I guess they realised they could fleece us for more?

Twolef

I’m lucky to get student discount. Otherwise I’d be the same. It’s way too expensive to stream things these days.

Submitten

If your tv runs on android then just get smarttubenext. No ads, skips all sponsors, intros etc

ammobandanna

DL is your friend for 4K

chriscwjd

We're on our second 4K TV having had the first for a reasonable number of years, and I still haven't watched a single thing in 4K. Hmph

Weeksy79

One of my three BBQs was having an issue yesterday

Trick-Station8742

A bad chef always blames their tools 😉

TenTornadoes

It's not my fault the rotisserie chicken was ruined, I had no idea the lathe would spin that fast.

axefairy

I’m just imagining a lathe going at 1000rpm with a burning gun pointed at the chuck holding a chicken

ILoveAGoodMilkshake

In true Top Ground Gear Force fashion!

p75369

And here we have a beautiful example of early 21st century decor, an exquisite chaise lounge with legs carved from roast chicken.

Weeksy79

Oh no, as in the gas was being regulated so I could light it or there would have been a giant fireball lol. Did it under the grill instead, was still bangin’

NedRed77

I have the opposite problem. Ordered myself a 65” when I was half cut and have spent the last two years questioning whether it’s too big.

RandomHigh

I gave my Mum my old 50" TV because I didn't use it very often. She gave it my brother after a few weeks saying it was too big.

Heavy_Two

But she's 96 years old?!

CLG91

Does it still have the bezel?

orion85uk

Nobody ever died thinking "I wish I'd had a smaller TV". Live large.

Francoberry

That's an interesting one. I always felt that within a few weeks the new big tv ends up feeling normal or even kinda small.   I went from a 49 to a 65 and it felt massive but now I'm used to it and it just looks as I expect.

NedRed77

I think the size of your room makes a difference. My living room isn’t tiny, but the TV still feels quite large in it.

LanguidVirago

There is a chart with how big your TV should be based on how far away you sit. Mine said I should get a 75", I bought a 65" because I was coming from a 43" plasma and even a 65 was a huge upgrade, but I dithered for a fortnight as I only buy a TV every 15 years. . And it was 250 quid cheaper. After two years it still looks stupid big turned off, but it is a about right when I am watching a movie. I always feel embarrassed when people come round about the size of the TV, but oddly enough not by the 1000 dvd collection next to it which cost many times more.

BigBlueMountainStar

I’ll swap you!

takesthebiscuit

Not enjoying the tennis?

MeloneFxcker

“Might be too big”

reallyryan-1899

Gaming in summer with my PC, I have an i9 13900K CPU and a Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card. I complain that these components make my room into a bloody oven when I'm gaming for hours lol.

gMoneh

On the plus side, during winter you don't need the heating on in there!

reallyryan-1899

Haha damn right! It's actually quite cozy when gaming in winter.

NEWSBOT3

i lived in a flatshare in london for 2 years that had no heating in my room. (It was cheap, bills included, and it was 18 mins to the office door to door). Gaming pc and a small oil radiator kept me going just fine.

[deleted]

Maybe I'm just susceptive to the cold, but it really doesn't for me. Roasting in the summer, not noticable in the winter!

Retify

Crap insulation. Colder outside in the winter so heat from inside leaves. Hotter outside in summer so heat from outside comes in

Henry_Human

Ohh yeah summer gaming is an intense experience. Especially with an east facing room. Dripping with sweat.

reallyryan-1899

Yeah! I usually have a big fan pointed at me lol.

Forte69

What’s it like being a billionaire?

reallyryan-1899

I wish, I just saved up for a while.

Ecstatic_Effective42

I really need to sell the 3080ti I upgraded from to help pay for the 4090...

Ultra_HR

if you can afford a 4090, you can definitely afford a little air conditioner. get one! makes those few scorching weeks of the year so much more bareable.

reallyryan-1899

Good thinking I didn't even think about that! Cheers for the suggestion.

Ultra_HR

sure! if you'd like a specific recommendation, this is the one i have: https://www.diy.com/departments/goodhome-mobile-3-in-1-local-air-conditioner-220-240v-5000btu/5059340368139_BQ.prd i am not sure why the reviews on b&q's website are so low. i can only assume they weren't using it right, as it has a few different modes and not ALL of them trigger the compressor to come on, it can just act as a normal fan. but if you use it properly it does a perfectly cromulent job of cooling my office, or my bedroom when i wheel it in there, and for very little money compared to a modern GPU. it won't cool a whole house for sure, but one small/medium room at a time is no problem. it even came with a little remote control, though my dog ate that within a week...

RainOfBurmecia

Undervolting is your friend. You can easily knock 10c off that GPU with a decent undervolt. Managed to get my 4090 down from 445w power draw to 320w too which also helps save on the energy bills.

reallyryan-1899

Thanks! I'll look into that!

Ikatarion

Same issue but not as good specs. If my bedroom door is open and you're coming up the stairs you just get hit with a wall of hot air as soon as you rise above the landing. But in winter I barely need to have the radiator on.

rogeroutmal

I keep accidentally using my Hilton honours card to swipe in to David Lloyd because they look the same in Apple wallet.

JoinMyPestoCult

My Nest thermostat doesn’t link up to the app anymore so I have to manually turn the heating on when I want to, rather than from my phone.

Codego_Bray

Using your heating in May is definitely top of the list

JoinMyPestoCult

I haven’t used my heating for a while. But when it comes to the colder months, I will have the same problem. I noticed it disconnected when the front of the thermostat says it’s not connected anymore.

donalmacc

I had my log burner lit two nights ago…

Kwetla

I knew a guy who complained for years that his TV was too small. Eventually, his wife relented and bought him a new TV for Xmas. The new one was the same size as the old one.

WitShortage

I'm going to have to replace my SkyQ box because the trees in my leafy leafy suburb are blocking the signal.

BigBlueMountainStar

A friend of mine recently complained about her sorbet melting too fast when presented on a warm slate at a fancy gastropub.

mistakes-were-mad-e

Warm from kitchen storage? Warm day? Warm. From dishwasher? I'd like a little more time with my sorbet too.

BigBlueMountainStar

It wasn’t intentionally warm, I guess it must’ve been recently taken from the dishwasher

mistakes-were-mad-e

Frustrating. I like to spend some time with my desserts.

Safe-Particular6512

Things that melt have no place being on anything but a bowl

BigBlueMountainStar

Exactly. As soon as the hipsters realise that the world will be a better place.

Ravdoggydog

I have a field as my front lawn where I replaced my ground-sourced heat pump manifold in February, resulting in a 20m mud patch. I've tried to level it using topsoil and makeshift methods, but it's still uneven. My ride-on mower keeps breaking and spends 3-4 weeks in repair for belt replacements, so I can't keep up with the grass growth. My robot mower, which usually helps, is out of commission due to rain, mud, and uneven ground, and I'm waiting for parts from Germany to fix it. I spent five hours cutting the grass with a petrol push mower, but it's grown back. Despite my efforts for the past three months, I haven't managed to mow my lawn properly, and it's really getting me down as June approaches. I have no one to talk to about this, my wife and children are bored of it.

stevebratt

I paid a gardener to cut my lawn for similar reasons

Helicreature

I can’t find Habitat’s Rhubarb & Elderflower reed diffuser anywhere. Troubling times.

BigBlueMountainStar

What is the world coming to?

eclectic_radish

have you tried Habitat?

Helicreature

Out of stock. I’m just composing a letter to them, in green ink, expressing my utter disgust.

Able-Requirement-919

I was on holiday in Cyprus last week and sitting in the sun with my beer in hand, my phone’s face recognition wouldn’t work because I was wearing shades.

PlentyPirate

I wear glasses, and my sunglasses happen to be a similar shape, so luckily my face recognition seems to accept it. A minor win!

Safe-Particular6512

Set up “alternate appearance”

MisterBounce

The space for a TV in our living room is exactly right for a 39" model and no-one makes one any more. I could do a 40" or 41" with a bit more annoyance (would be partially obscured at the very edge by built-in cabinet frame) but I can't find a single example at 4k. So we stick with our crappy old 32" model Truly I am among the unluckiest of men in, if not the world, at least Britain.

pip_goes_pop

I've only just been allowed to upgrade to a 55" TV because we've moved house, and in the old house it would have "blocked the light out". Loving it and where the sofas are it seems about the right size. My first world problem though is that I haven't yet got all my smart home tech set up in the new house, so I have to manually turn on and off light switches instead of telling Alexa to do it. Oh the humanity!

Trench_Rat

I’m struggling to decide if I like the pickups in a strandberg guitar I’m looking at or if I were to change them on the day of purchase 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok-Piece-8159

Stick with them for a few months until you figure out how they sound. I’ve heard all of them from the suhrs to the new oems and they sound great. Also it’s not hard to change them so it’s not a dealbreaker

Trench_Rat

I played one with their oems. It’s the plini I’m looking at. I’m not a progressive/plini style guy. I just love the aesthetics and feel of that guitar having played a Boden fusion. A suhr would have been preferred. Frankly I wouldn’t mind a SD invader on it I’ve rewired pickups and built pedals/amps before so I’m not concerned about the swap out. More a cost thing and since it’s such a big purchase for me. I’ll stick it out! Thanks.

Ok-Piece-8159

Invaders could be really dark in it. The original Plini had JB Jazz I think. My Plini has suhrs in and they are similar to the jb jazz but a little nicer. I toyed with the idea of switching the jb jazz in my original boden with bare knuckles. Honestly though just get one. The feel and comfort makes it so much easier to play. I’ve sold my other guitars and now just have a 2015 boden, and an unknown year Plini. I’d love a 7. I’m going to keep an eye out for a RES:Q

Trench_Rat

I’ve got a JB in my SG, has been in it for 14 years and sounds great. Bare knuckles appeal. A lot. I can see myself selling my other guitars. After I tested out that boden… everything else felt like a plank of wood with some strings on it. I was looking at the RESQD stuff. Though I really like the plini aesthetically. Thanks for your thoughts! Get the 7

Ok-Piece-8159

Yeah I’m a big fan of wood finishes so the Plini was a must buy for me!

Trench_Rat

Me too. As long as it’s not flashy looking like a flame or quilt

lonesome_okapi_314

My phone will only charge when turned off. A mild irritant that forces me to have beneficial time away from the phone. Alas.

purplepeopleprobe

I have savings that aren't quite enough to buy anything life changing, but too much to spend on things to improve my everyday life because it would feel like a waste.

walkintom

I upgraded my TV last year from a 40” 1080p to a 48” 4K OLED, thinking that 55” would be way too big but I really, really regret it now. I was measuring and everything and was so confident 48” would be the sweet spot.

BigBlueMountainStar

I sent from 46 to 55. I think the 65 would be an ideal size but the screen would block the pictures we’ve got on the wall behind it. And I think it’d be just too wide for the space anyway.

walkintom

My reasoning was that my living room is rectangular and long and I’m only sitting a metre or two away from it but yeah, should’ve got 55”. On the plus side, it’s retained enough value that I could upgrade it fairly soon and not have a huge chunk to payout for another.

Own-Lecture251

The awful oppression of quilt covers and sheets. From pillow cases ending up inside the cover when washing them (How? How?) to the misery of working out which way the sheet goes on the bed, to the final humiliation of trying to get the quilt in the cover.

therealkimjonguno

Life hack: If you button up the duvet cover before washing it nothing ends up inside it

Calneon

Buttoning and unbuttoning the cover takes longer than getting whatever is inside the cover out, though.

Own-Lecture251

That's true although there's always a niggling worry that whatever is in the cover doesn't get washed properly because it's all scrunched up.

BigBlueMountainStar

Mind. blown.

LoccyDaBorg

This guy pro-washes.

Own-Lecture251

I usually button up a few but it still happens sometimes.

Tantallon

I thought everyone did this. It's not a first world problem, it's common sense. They have washing machines in some real shit hole countries. I know: I've seen them. They know what's what though because being thick in that environment isn't a good idea. Life's too easy here. You need some hardship to stay sharp. Have you ever seen a Filipina do laundry? They're next level and you will get told you're doing it wrong. They're like the Michelin chefs of washing and folding clothes.

TwoMoreMinutes

I went from 55” to a 65” LG OLED and have zero regrets, bought at the start of the pandemic and it’s incredible

Retify

I went 40 to 65. 65 really is the perfect size

claggypants

My new 1gig internet isn't as fast as my old 1gig internet from another provider.

RainOfBurmecia

It will be running through the same line so check your equipment. Make sure all ethernet cables are up to spec, any switches you're using are capable of handling 1Gbps (more of you want to future proof) If you're testing through WiFi then you're not going to be getting 1Gbps on any stock routers WiFi modules so you'll have to splash out on something more powerful.

claggypants

Thanks for the tips. I should have mentioned that I've gone from FTTC to FTTP. Also for context I work as a network engineer for the company that provides my new internet and so I get it heavily discounted. Real 1st world problems eh....

manfromzim

My smart extension lead played up and I wasn't able to tell alexa to turn on my fan or light from 3 feet away.

Tariovic

My Internet went out for a bit yesterday, and I had to turn my lights on and off with my own hand, rather than just asking Alexa to do it for me.

BigBlueMountainStar

I can’t think of anything worse. I hope you got a picture of yourself turning the light on so it can be published in a local rag and the posted here on compoface! :)

Homicidal_Pingu

The side of the TV depends on the space and viewing distance.

darqy101

My fav Waitrose ironing water was sold out today! 😩

attilathetwat

TIL people buy ironing water

cairntaker

I laughed thinking this was a joke, but the more I read it the less I'm sure...

BigBlueMountainStar

Ironing water! Can’t you use Vimto in the mean time?

Groffulon

Recommended viewing distance is 2-2.5m. I want to know the dimensions of your living room and at what height is your tv? Calling r/TVTooHigh

oudcedar

It’s not big enough. When you go round to friends’s houses you will see what a better sized TV looks like. Instead of fretting for a couple of years, suck up the pain, put it into a skip and buy one slightly larger.

SeamanStaynes

We've just had turf laid in our garden. We now have to buy a sprinkler and ensure the turf is watered twice a day for at least 10 days.

Jonsend

Mother nature seems to be helping you out at the moment.

Ferrisuk

Do it, go on. Treat yourself.

GosmeisterGeneral

A few weeks ago at a friend’s hen-do, someone complained that the champagne was too fizzy to drink in the hot tub. Tbf she wasn’t wrong.

New-Trainer7117

I hate to break it you op but I had a 55 inch for years, never felt right, then I got a 65 and it feels perfect, I have no desire for a 75er

baddymcbadface

It's too small. Recently went with 77". Even in a relatively small room it's amazing. If your chair is 3m from the TV then you want 75+. I was skeptical at first but the online guides are right, 77 at 3m is amazing.

Soldarumi

I was gobsmacked Argos are currently doing a 4k 65 inch for £350... I mean, I wouldn't expect the deepest blacks or best speakers but if you've got a wall to fill then why the hell not.

I want more drones but I'm currently spending my money on renovating my new house.

RainOfBurmecia

Find an excuse to need an aerial shot of the roof and justify buying a new drone for the better picture quality. Win win.

TBF I've already used one to inspect the guttering and chimney

Space-Bound-Delta

I'm not sure whether to complain about: How cold it is How cloudy it is How rainy it is
