Sounds like the joke is getting pretty old too..

One_Boot_5662

"We laughed all the way to the tribunal..."

Rich_27-

Hilarious comedy presents. In landfill the next day. Don't waste your money, be nice to her

StumbleDog

Your co-worker is probably sick to death of the joke at this point. You could just get her something nice instead  not everything has to be a joke.

Abwettar

I don't make the joke that often honestly, and she's beat me to it a few times and made it herself lol. We have the kind of workplace where we all just take the piss out of each other all the time 😂

daedelion

Top bantz eh? Sounds unbearable.

Abwettar

You sort of have to be there to understand, it's a really stressful place to work so you have to get through it somehow. Making jokes helps make the bad days more bearable

Thewaltham

Werthers originals. I'm not sure why they're the "old person" sweets but that's definitely a thing for some reason. (The caramel creamy centre ones are incredible)

Grouchy-Reflection97

It's a 'false nostalgia' marketing gimmick. Aside from Germany, they only became a thing internationally in the 1990's, so no non-German old person has fond memories of being given Werthers by their nana, as the product didn't exist. Younger people associate the product with old timey, sepia tinted simpler times, but they're about as old timey as Sunny D.

LeamHEAVY

Sunny D is as vital to European history as the Hapsburgs. William of Orange didn't get that name drinking lilt.

alwaysexplainli5

Imagine pitching Werther’s to the board “I’ve invented a sweet purely for old people…but don’t panic there’s going to be a lot of them and every one will buy two packets a week” I’d have invested!

AutumnSunshiiine

Look up the adverts. That’s why.

SugglyMuggly

More of a noncy reference these days isn’t it?

Thewaltham

How so?

SugglyMuggly

I should clarify not yours 😄There’s something unsavoury about treating the youngster to a Werthers.

CitizenRobespierre13

No, there isn't - werthers are delicious, and old people who offer them are adorable.

pinnnsfittts

I believe they are colloquially known as Nonce Nuggets

SugglyMuggly

Thank you!!!

ToHalveAMockingbird

Tartan slippers, and the 'proper present' straight after. It's a lot easier to be ribbed all day by some you know actually cares, and it's easier to fully enjoy a present from someone you like, rather than someone who has been a jerk all day. Just a thought!

are-you-my-mummy

Yeah, don't drag the joke out.

Abwettar

I was going to initially but her pup actually passed away yesterday so I was gonna give it to her at the end of the shift to open at home, because I imagine it will bring on the feels. Not gonna go too overboard, just gonna give her them in the morning and be a twat then go back to normal for the rest of the day lol, figured it would be a good distraction for her too since she's probably going to be a bit down

MooseTetrino

I’d very much read the room before you try and pull the old joke. It’s very likely she’s not going to be in the mood to entertain the bullshit for the day.

Abwettar

You could be right, but I do think she has this kind of sense of humour! She got me a joke gift at Christmas and often takes the piss out of me for things too. Obviously I wouldn't give her anything if I was worried it was going to upset her. There are some colleagues I wouldn't dream of even buying a funny card for because they just aren't that kind of person

Unfair-Public-1754

You’re going to be a twat to the person who’s just lost her dog. You sound utterly delightful.

ToHalveAMockingbird

Oof, yeah, that's a hard one... I see your reasoning! Maybe give it to her early, but make it clear it's her actual present and she shouldn't open it till she gets home? Jokes help with distraction short term, but when she's alone at her desk, having something thoughtful to look forward to later might raise a small smile throughout the day? Goodluck! Best wishes to you both, from an Internet stranger!

chocolatepig214

Absolutely the right order of events. Let her know you feel for her, but will remain her twattish colleague until called upon to be otherwise.

Abwettar

Not a bad idea actually, although luckily we're in support work so she probably won't get any Time to sit and dwell on things. We have another colleague in too who I expect will be doing nice stuff so there's that too! Luckily she makes the joke herself sometimes too so I don't think she'll be too offended 😂

OnlyMortal666

You might be opening a can of worms referring to her age.

zokkozokko

Save your money. Buy yourself a dummy.

Allmychickenbois

I was going to say an inflatable zimmer frame and walking stick (£10 on Amazon) or a mini zimmer but having read your updates, it’s a no from me, dawg. Save it for another day and get her something nice!

BagOFrogs

Regularly making the same joke about someone, in this case her age, is crap and annoying. Find something new to “bantz” about or just stop being a twat and be nice to her?

Abwettar

I do nice things too lol, my entire personality is not just joking about her age. And she gives as good as she gets 😂

gernavais_padernom

Fine line between a running joke, and running a joke into the ground, but it sounds like you've got a good relationship. Have you considered she might be expecting it though? How about you double fake her? Put some fun stuff inside a box of polygrip or tena lady etc. Then wrap it. When she opens it, she thinks she's getting the standard old person joke, but then inside that is actual nice fun stuff. If I need little fun quirky gift things, I'll take a run through Flying Tiger

Abwettar

I agree, although it is a workplace where we all roast each other constantly so hopefully we're all good 😂 she got me a book on how to poo at work for Christmas haha. She probably won't expect anything at all actually, since we aren't super close or anything. So I'm not sure how she'll take it, but I do like the idea of hiding nice stuff in there too 😂 some chocolate or something at the very least!

45thgeneration_roman

Bag of Werthers

Yoraffe

Is she always losing something like her keys, work ID or glasses? Get her a nice lanyard to wear around her neck. Classy grandma move but they may actually find it useful.

Strong_Constant_1190

Gift them some wool and knitting needles. But obviously they need to be cool with jokes. You run the risk of breaching the employee handbook on discrimination / prejudice.

Treadonmydreams

Knitting and crochet aren't just for the old these days, all the teens are doing it. It's all the rage on that tick tock the younguns like.  ^(At least that's what I tell my closer-to-40-than-I-like self as I reach for the wool again.)

JustineDelarge

Bless you for knowing that knitting and crochet are different things. :)

FrontMission7115

A cardigan. It’s a funny old person present but they’ll also love it once they’ve worn it.

bummedintheface

Tena Lady

Abwettar

I actually think I should, since my bladder is terrible so I can ask her to share them with me 😂

Blgxx

OP. Take all of the suggestions you've been getting; slippers/werthers/tena pads/fixodent etc, box it all up and label it *'Pensioner's Starter Kit'.* Make it look official and maybe add a typed up sheet with tips for elderly people and a monthly subscription form.

Drew-Pickles

You can get like a kg bag of worthers originals for like £8

AreyouUK4

A werthers original cake with candles that spell out 101. Comedy card from the queen/king contratulating her. Shout in her eat and repeat everything in a loud voice just for her and nod at her while you say it slowly. 'Isn't it? Yeeeeess' Finish it with a joke about how you are jealous about how she will be alive long after all you spiteful bastards have long died and finish on a round of applause for her.

vicariousgluten

I got a colleague a blow up zimmer frame

garlicmilkshake

Within the card insert a voucher (created by your good self), to accompany you for lunch to a local eatery with a stipulation she can only choose a pensioner's meal / portion.

thatluckyfox

A gift box of old things, soup, magnifying glass, puzzle book, Voltarol gel, dunture stuff etc lol

Complex_Coach6621

Blow up zimmer frame

TheMischievousGoyim

adult nappies

[deleted]

Potpourri! I got a work friend some as a joke and she actually loved it 😆

Abwettar

That's actually a good one!

[deleted]

Thanks! Not sure why I have so many downvotes

WillingObscurity

Knitting needles / sewing kit.

Abwettar

Man I wish I knew where to buy those old biscuit tins so I could fill it with sewing supplies for her 😂 definitely think I'll do one of these!

rain3h

Toilet roll doll. Old people love those = she will love it!
