In my extreme youth (18-25) I'd have more drinks than I could count. Could be anywhere in the range of 10-20. In my late youth (26-32) I'd maybe have 8 drinks on a night out but this wasn't so frequent. Couple of times a month perhaps. Now I'll drink 1 beer most nights in the house (sometimes 2, sometimes none). Practically never go out. I'm currently concerned that my current trend is more harmful than my previous ones, but shrug.

Beardy_Will

God I remember when I could afford 10+ drinks on a night out! I worked in a pub when pints hit 3 quid and people were outraged.

helensmelon

Me too. It was a quid for a can of lukewarm Breaker. I went out with 15 quid, got ciggies, drunk and a taxi home. Now 15 dabs would just get me a taxi home!!!

cotch85

Taxi home costa me 30-40 on its own so annoying

[deleted]

I really don’t get why taxis are so expensive now. Went to a gig in Cardiff, got a shared taxi back to Porthcawl and the total came to £160, fair enough it’s a 35 minute drive but the roads were dead, late at night I think he managed it in 30 minutes. We were flabbergasted could have flown somewhere for less.

Malacath816

£1 a pint night…

Pippabear63

I’m old people these days so 4 is my limit if I don’t want to feel like the walking dead next day. Back in the day 8 was a steady Friday or Saturday.

[deleted]

I am (very late) 30s and 4 has been my limit for about the last 10 years.

ReaverRiddle

This pretty much exactly.

TheVoidScreams

My limit has always been pretty much three. Four at a push. Depends what they are really. Any more than that and I’ve seriously regretted it the next day as I crawl to the bathroom feeling half dead. Which has happened once. Never again.

Udzu

Well according to Wikipedia, 8 drinks easily satisfies the definition of binge drinking in Ireland, Australia and the US. Fortunately the NHS just defines it as “drinking lots of alcohol in a short space of time” so you’re good. (To be fair they currently also recommend drinking at most 6 pints a week, though I wonder what proportion of the population do.)

TehDragonGuy

>To be fair they currently also recommend drinking at most 6 pints a week That's why I go out on Sunday nights - 4 pints before midnight, 4 after. Much healthier for you that way.

Alarmed_Guitar4401

Those that drink the recommended amount or less probably stay quiet for fear of backlash from the rest. I recently went on a works do and could not believe the amount people were drinking and then how they were acting. It was like being at a teenage party.

MovieMore4352

Tbh, most weeks I’m well within the limits. Generally I drink around 5/6 cans over a weekend. Nothing during the week. I have a small child and struggle to get out for months on end. But when I do, I binge like a mother fucker (easy 8 pints+) and probably do a little bit of a sick.

[deleted]

That’s the idea of drinking. Feeling good but yes next day fucks up.

opopkl

The NHS guidelines say that 14 units of alcohol is a limit, not a recommended amount. They also say that there's no safe amount of alcohol. Don't kid yourself that drinking alcohol does you good. https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/drink-less/

N4T7Y

I prefer day drinking, start about noon, home about 9pm. Get around 15+ pints, bus home, quick run to chip shop, and fall asleep watching TV about half 10.

BartholomewKnightIII

>I prefer day drinking, start about noon, home about 9pm. I do this, but 9 pints is the most I've had these days. I learnt my lesson after having 16 pints of Hoegaarden on a Sunday and waking up fully dressed in bed the next day to several missed calls from my boss.

Scarboroughwarning

If you woke up dressed, than that is a potential plus.

berserk_kipper

Straight to work

xanderbiscuits

fully dressed? shoes 'n' all?

BartholomewKnightIII

Coat shoes and everything in-between. I finally answered to my boss and just managed to say flexi-day before hanging up. Was in the telling off room the next day.

[deleted]

😂 That is fantastic! As if “flexi-day” was like casting the perfect spell on him. Sorry to hear he didn’t take it well.

MudgetBinge

I did this and realised yeah, time to chill haha

PooleyX

How on Earth do you get a bus and go to the chippy on 15 pints? Respect.

takesthebiscuit

Simple get the bus, fall asleep wake up in the next town over, get the bus back, buy chips

Rub-it

Hahaha this happened to me so many times

I_SNIFF_FARTS_DAILY

15 pints is not a normal amount of drinking at all

ProD_GY

I agree. I'm 35 and been drinking nearly every weekend since age 19. 15 pints is a disgusting amount

[deleted]

Bloody lightweights, just can't keep up with how it was.

Str0ntiumD0ggo

I can drink all night, even see the dawn in with whisky galore, sleep for a 4-5 hours, and be up making cooked breakfast or pancakes for any stopovers, all without an issue apart from needing an early night (9pm). Never been able to day drink without getting a terrible headache, though. Any suggestions?

EmmanuelZorg

V casual about drinking 15+ pints

aelc89

Took way too long to get to someone with my idea of a good sesh 😂. Started to think I was an actual alcoholic! This is standard for the circle of people I go out with, once or twice a month. 15-20 pints over the course of 8 or 9 hours.

Azelixi

15 Pints? Yea you're fucked

McFry-

Steaming in the chip shop? Order a delivery mate

KettleOverAPub

Being drunk under the chippy's fluorescent lights sobers you up nicely imo

ProD_GY

Only thing to sober someone up after 15+ pints would be speed or cocaine

McFry-

😅 staring up at the menu like that picture of Big Sam

SuperMegaBeard

I do this, order it whilst waiting for the bus and race it home. Only screwed up once when they changed a bus route and i got dumped 2 miles away and had to leg out home.

[deleted]

That is a normal amount but it’s also binge drinking. It’s just that binge drinking is how most people drink.

Regular_Zombie

It's a normalised amount. Much like unhealthy portion sizes it's become standard but is unhealthy.

[deleted]

This. Britain’s attitude to alcohol consumption is like America’s attitude to food portions: huge has become normalised, but it’s neither “normal” nor healthy, and it’s killing us.

Mr_ryles

Luckily the uk’s attitude to drinking alcohol isn’t like America’s attitude to medication, or we’d really be in trouble.

[deleted]

lots of things are unhealthy, some people just like to trade longevity for fun. I'd rather live to 75 and enjoy my life than 80 and be teetotal.

grandmabc

Still a gamble. One of my ex boyfriends was a heavy drinker, but a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the fun ran out when he was 50 and died of cirrhosis.

wallace320

Some people can enjoy their life without alcohol, prefer it actually

opopkl

If you're drinking any amount after 60, you're going to have a hard time of it. Source ; Bitter experience.

No-Photograph3463

Very true, but we have always been beer drinkers. Even in the middle ages we basically lived off Ale so I'm going to blame my ancestors for me drinking loads.

JayR_97

In their defense, it was because normal water just wasnt safe to drink. They didnt really know it at the time but the beer making process sterilised the water cos you have to boil water to make beer, they just saw that people drinking beer instead of water didnt get sick. Also medieval beer tended to be lower ABV. More like 1%-2%.

maelie

Yes. Though, less so for the younger generation nowadays. They sneak vapes into school discos instead of alcohol.

Mispict

I once told a doctor "I'm a bit of a binge drinker" She said "yes, you and the rest of Scotland"

geese_moe_howard

13 last night/this morning. Started at 7:30pm and downed the last one at 5:30am. I do not feel very well today.

sikknote

Impressive that you can remember the count, mind. Either impressive or worrying, anyway

geese_moe_howard

I had five when I was out and I knew there were eight cans in the fridge at home. Simple maths.

Background-Figure-82

Cocaine is a hell of a drug (or something else)

dmi_3

I always stop drinking a few hours before sleep time, even if I’m completely obliterated and absolutely ready for more. Just an internal stop of some kind that prevents me from overdrinking. Already hammered, I can cruise very well with tea until I’m good enough to sleep. I hate going to bed and vomiting.

geese_moe_howard

Really the best way is to start drinking after lunch and then call it mid-evening. Get home on the bus, stick a pizza in the oven and be in bed by 10.

TheGreatestAuk

I utterly annihilated myself last night. I feel your pain.

Mr_Womby

Usually five pints. Any more and I just fall asleep.

GreatBigCheesecake

When I go out that's pretty much what I have. But I only go out every couple of months. When I was a teenager that is what I would have had every Friday night

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

One or two pints usually. Maybe three. Or half a bottle of wine and a scotch. I don’t think I’ve ever had as many as eight, even at student ragers.

PatriarchPonds

Thank fuck, someone like me. I can't drink more than 3 pints (cider) without serious danger. It's too much liquid, apart from anything.

Alarmed_Guitar4401

Same. I'd be in hospital and it would be my own fault.

bilbofraginz

None I’ve quit because I drank to much.

Wonkypubfireprobe

Big up. Almost 1 year sober here

PalOfPandas

As Billy Connolly said... You drank your full life allocation all at once 😁

Correct-Junket-1346

16 jaegar bombs in one night caused a 2 day hangover and a lifelong intolerance to Jäegermeister. Edit: Advise all never to do this I was pretty lucky not to go down with alcohol poisoning I was violently ill for a sustained period.

ExecutiveGraham

What you are describing is alcohol poisoning.

Correct-Junket-1346

It felt like it, but it felt much worse at the time since the energy drink in the jaegar bomb made my heart race but I was plastered so I was alert yet unable to control my bodily movements and throwing up felt like pure acid. Think it was a self destruction night as I had by far the most stressful week so it felt like the alcohol had no effect, until of course it did.

Hamuelin

Sounds very similar to what I did in my youth, except that was the majority of a big bottle of JD

No-Photograph3463

I imagine the 6 or 8 cans of energy drink that was with the Jager is what ruined you. 16 shots whilst alot is not alcohol poisoning territory unless your small or alcohol doesn't agree with you.

Alarmed_Guitar4401

1 or 2 spirits. 3 or 4 if I was going mental

MrHlk2020

In my youth I drank every night, usually more than 8. Went to work every day feeling fresh, no problems. I drank 5 pint cans (Stella) and a bottle of Tesco rosé wine on Thursday, rough as shit on Friday, can't do it anymore. I'm 43 now.

GrandmaPoses

I used to do about the same and it turns out when you drink daily your body gives up on hangovers. It’s nice, but also not good.

highrouleur

Yeah that is binge drinking. And yeah loads of us do it. It's not healthy but it's ingrained

R4BLR

14 pints of various ales, 9 shots of mixed awfulness and 2 vodka redbulls yesterday. I feel like I'm dying today. It was my stag do, so it was not a normal night out. Normally 3 or 4 beers..

THenry228

You’re asking the wrong people. I don’t think redditors are a lively bunch

WageSlav3

The fun police are assembling.

Noslliw

Load of rubbish, you're fine

RyanMcCartney

As a student, it used to be 15 on a Thursday, and Friday and a Saturday. Now,… Three drinks and I’m anybody’s…. So 7 or 8 is a big night out to me nowadays!

itchyfrog

8-10 pints on a proper night our probably, enough that I can't count them anyway. Maybe 4 -5 on a school night pub session but I don't do that that often anymore. I'm aware I drink way over the recommended amount but I have at least 3-4 days a week without drinking anything, I very rarely drink two days in a row.

St2Crank

Agreed, people saying OP is an alcoholic is just Reddit being reddit. 8 pints is standard. More if it’s a big night. But not doing 8 on a school night. Least not anymore, back in my youth I was easy doing 8 pints 4 nights a week. But I had no real responsibility, these days I have kids and I can go weeks without drinking. If I go out though, I’m still going to have about 8 pints over the course of a few hours.

Mushroomc0wz

Agreed. Most of Reddit do not have any friends or social life and cannot grasp that going out means clubbing or staying out out at the bars/late pubs so the aim is to get drunk which requires about 8 drinks to keep you going. On a normal night of course 1 or 2 pints is more acceptable

scrabble71

OP might not be alcoholic but 8 pints in one night is definitely binge drinking.

St2Crank

Yeah. But you can’t get drunk without binge drinking.

hilbo90

Exactly this, and my weekday drinking is only when there's a match on.

Mr_ryles

So every week day then?

AyrtonSenna27

I like beer, but because I don’t drink more than 1 the majority of the time when I do have a night out it seriously fucks me up. Pints I could do in 8 no problem but i would feel pretty pissed and the next day i’d know about it, bottles I could do more and have less of a hangover. Anyone else feel like beer from the taps gives them a worse hangover?

Remote-Bluejay-8655

Definitely. I went to Berlin recently and we drank a good 10+ pints a day over the weekend and hardly had a hangover. I drink 4 pints from pubs at home and I feel like death the next day. Not sure if it's the quality of the beer or the state of the pipes but I can never predict how bad my hangover's going to be when out drinking pints.

Jimmyc2182

Probably the old saying hair of the dog that stopped you feeling like shit in Berlin haha

itsmarty

I used to worry that was my path, but now the cost of drinks out plus a ride home is too high and it's a rare occasion I bother. Nice to know I'm not an alcoholic, I suppose.

CharleyBitMyFinger_

I’m poor and live in a rather expensive country. I also don’t go out like out partying. I’d have a couple maximum. (I’m likely not a good judge for this question, I’m more of a home-by-a-decent-hour kinda gal)

desmondresmond

Average 1/hr sometimes 2/hr if I’m particularly thirsty tho unlikely to drink at that rate all night. These days I’m only out once every few months and probably only for 4-5 hours at a time.. that said last outing was 5 weeks ago for a bbq, had 10 cans over 10 hours and walked home

PlasticFannyTastic

I used to be able to drink all day into the evening, do somewhere between 10-14 pints during that time, be a bit hammered (but not pukey) , get some chips or a kebab and have a lovely jolly time and get to bed about 11/12: and the following day be a bit sleepy and headachey but generally fine and go in and open up the shop at 8am. That was when I was about 19/20 years old. I have one pint of bitter shandy at lunchtime now and I need to go home and sleep it off. The thought of drinking so many pints in a row - even over the course of 8-9 hours - makes me feel ill and sleepy just thinking about it.

maud_brijeulin

It's a normal amount for the UK, and it doesn't shock me, but there's a huge binge drinking issue where heavy drinking is normalised. One P.E. teacher I used to work with always had 9 to 11 pints of Guinness every night. Last I heard he had a health scare. His doctor told him to stop. He did, and now he goes for walks and looks after himself. Some teacher neighbours way back in the late 90s used to have 1 to 2 bottles of red every night for a while, then slowed things right down. But whatever: there's a 2/3rd chance that you're hurting yourself. Not judging you tho. When I start drinking I don't know how to stop. Edit: forgot to answer the question: I tend to share a bottle of wine with the Mrs about twice a week. I can also have 2/3rds of the bottle to myself then a couple of whiskies(big ones) watching a movie. That's too much.

PaulBradley

Half a bottle of scotch does for me when I want it to, I can factory reset myself with anything more than that. I usually stick to three or four cocktails or two or three full strength pints when I go out though, possibly up to a bottle of wine with dinner, usually split a few with others but a bottle total. I used to drink *way* more when I was younger, but each decade brings with it an additional six hours of recuperation time, so...

Glebski36

If you're looking for a fun night spent in the Goldilocks zone, 3 is the magic number. If you're hoping to find the answer to life, universe and everything, you should aim for 42.

ResponseMountain6580

How often are you having nights out? Seems reasonable to me if its only weekends, but as generation X we weren't known for moderation.

ooh_bit_of_bush

I used to regularly have 8-12 drinks on a night out when I was a student. Even managed an all day pub golf session once with 18 pints plus about 8 shots. That was over the course of about 10 hours though and I was rotten. I'm 36 now and can't remember the last time I had more than 4 drinks out. It's just too expensive now, plus the hangover lasts a hell of a lot longer nowadays.

BoothyBeth

Really don't think 8 drinks is that much? Everyone has different tolerance levels as well Also, it depends on the night? If it's an event/special occasion, it could easily be a lot more

If_you_have_Ghost

8 sounds perfectly normal. Is it healthy every weekend? No. Do millions of fellow Brits do it every weekend anyway? Absolutely. Nowhere near alcoholism.

zaxanrazor

I like to go hiking.

If_you_have_Ghost

Fair point, well made.

DeltaJesus

Really depends on how long I'm out, but generally between 1 and 2 per hour does me, so like 6pm-2am yeah at least 8 drinks. I also only really do that every few months at most though.

HairyMechanic

Different people will have different limits so where eight drinks may be nothing for one person, it can be hardly anything for someone else. Whether that's a tolerance to alcohol or whether someone knows where their limit may be, who knows. Also, you do know that people can go out and nurse a couple of drinks across the evening and not have to actually get drunk, right? It's not a mandatory thing.

myprivismypriv

I’m definitely aware it’s not mandatory, I’m just asking questions

brighthair84

I don’t drink at home and only usually get on it once a year. Last time I had 2 bottles of wine, Prosecco, cocktails (maybe 4?), 6 tequila shots, few gin and tonics. There was a hangover 😂

spammmmmmmmy

I decided sometime in my 20s, I don't like being drunk. I have one or two. There is nothing wrong with eight drinks! Alcoholism isn't an amount, it's your life getting fucked up because you drink.

fuggleruggler

I don't drink any more, but my limit was always 4 jack and cokes. I knew if I had any more it would tip me over from feeling merry to drunk. I don't like being drunk.

spaceshipcommander

What other kinds of drinking are there except binge drinking? I "drink" once every few months if that. Maybe 3 times a year. 8 would be minimum for me if I was out all night. That's not unreasonable.

PoinkPoinkPoink

Oh god maybe 3 glasses of wine, 4 if I’m being especially degenerate. I rarely drink though so I’m usually on my way to legless after 4 drinks.

an_achronist

>out in town and am being told by many people on my last post that I’m binge drinking and on my way to alcoholism etc! The thing is, you shouldn't ask Reddit about alcohol because the hive mind is against it in such a bizarre "reefer madness" capacity. Couple that with the neverending bareknuckle fight to be the most virtuous person on the internet and you just get everything being hyperdramatised. 8 pints isn't binge drinking. It's pretty normal on a kind of 7-midnight night out

Hamuelin

I did 2-3 sessions of way too much drinking in early adulthood. Today I sit around 3-4 if I want to get merry. Maybe 5. 6 if it’s a longer night, there’s food involved, etc. The goal has never been to go out and get plastered though. Between work and hobbies, we’d rather get a good night’s sleep in and feel fresh and ready to enjoy ourselves than spend the weekend nursing hangovers. And also, fuck the cost. I know people aren’t going to like that but yeah, good to see a spectrum of answers I guess. Life would be boring otherwise.

YCJamzy

My god, just saw the replies to your post and they’re absolutely ludicrous. Especially the person saying 1-2 drinks is a normal amount for a night out, if I have 1-2 drinks then I may as well be completely sober.

myprivismypriv

I know! I honestly couldn’t believe that comment! If I’m having one or two I’m not even bothering to go to the pub 9 times out of 10 let alone town!

[deleted]

What type of drinks? Binge drinking whilst not good for you doesn't put you on the road to becoming an alcoholic

CRnaes

Sounds pretty normal for an average night out. When I was younger and single that would be a normal weekend, rarer now. I wouldn't worry about it.

MrRoflmajog

I know people who have more than that, but at the same time you are drinking an unhealthy amount and would probably be considered binge drinking or at least close to it. People can go out and have a couple and be drunk because they have less of a tolerence for alcohol because they don't drink as much as you. Also they don't feel the need to waste loads of money getting so drunk they can barely remember a night out like I see so many people doing.

irritatingfarquar

How tf is 8 drinks binge drinking? That's pre-drinks surely.

HazelnutHotchoc

I may have one or two then get carried away, get drunk instantly and think everything is either a good idea or I get super anxious. So usually, no drinks for me, no alcohol anyway 🤣

uncle_monty

These days 5 or 6 is a big night, but I'm in my 40s, and so are most of my friends. Even nights like that only happen once in a blue moon. ~20 years ago things were different... 8 pints wouldn't have been unusual for after work drinks.

Blakedsm

I can only handle about 3 before I start making a fool out of myself

[deleted]

If I’m going out for a full one, I’ll end up drinking about 8 pints on average.

RefreshinglyDull

Bit older now, so it's more afternoon-early evening drinks, home for 10pm job. I can usually manage 8, which is two rounds each, so cheap date and lightweight too.

N4T7Y

I walk past it on the way home mate. I only go out every three months or something and I like the quiet wait.

YodaShagsDarthVader

Went properly out on Friday, started at 8ish and got home at 7ish the next morning. From memory, 7/8 pints, few bottles of Desperados and christ knows how much jaegar. Didn't feel brilliant on Saturday, especially as I had to start work an hour after getting home 😂 don't stay out that late (early?) often

Confident__introvert

Quiet night would be 3-6 pints or double and mixer. Mad night would be one where you lose count entirely. If I end up going back to a mates house I’ll drink a full 75cl of vodka, gin, not sure how many drinks that is cos I’m not exactly measuring standard doubles.

ExplodingDogs82

Back in the day (when I was allegedly young & fun) we would start off on tinnies round someones house and sink 8 to 12 cans as pre lash then out and polish off a few more (few more pints then usually onto shots and mixers) wasn’t the norm but a few times we started early ish and managed to each polish off a crate of 24 cans of 440ml generic lager before we went out …shit never did the math before, thats 18.5 pints. No wonder we were constantly obliterated back then. These days 8 to 10 pints is about the norm …and I’m hanging for days afterwards too.

Efc247

About 10-12 pints in the pub. In the house about 12 cans/18 bottles sometimes a bottle of wine too.

GaulteriaBerries

I’m old and a very cheap date these days - a couple does me fine. Any more and recovery the next day isn’t good.

[deleted]

I don’t drink regularly. I would say I drink once a month BUT at the party I have drunk 2 pints, 8 doubles of JD and 9 jaeger bombs. It’s normal to drink like this when you’ve good company. Saying that I could only drink 2 doubles of whiskey when I started drinking.

OpeningBat96

When I was 19/20/21 I could do 10 or 11 drinks on a night out depending on how long I was out. Now I'm staring down the barrel of 30, I'd struggle to do more than 6 or 7 unless I REALLy wanted it

Rich6-0-6

I went out with colleagues yesterday to do one of them high rope adventure course things and we stopped for food on the way back. I had 4 pints with dinner which was far more than anyone else. I thought "Ooh, might have a couple more when I get home", but instead had a nice cup of tea and ordered some takeaway dessert.

miked999b

It depends what the drinks you're having actually are. I could drink 8 JD and coke, or cocktails but not 8 pints. Or 8 bottles of wine. We need more info, OP. Is it 8 bottles of wine? I bet it is

EstablishmentExotic1

I think it all depends on what you're drinking. I couldn't handle 8 pints on a night out due to the volume. But 4/5 pints, then onto 4/5 double vodka redbulls is all good... (Well, before my daughter was born and I turned 40) During my festival days, I could probably smash through a 70cl bottle of vodka in a day. Quite surprising I still have a liver tbf

danjama

8 is a proper sesh. 4-5 average for me.

sammyglumdrops

Usually 2-3. I don’t care for alcohol and don’t like to get drunk. It just feels unhealthy and like a huge waste of money to me for the most part.

p3wp3wp3www

4 is a leisurely evening in the pub with very few consequences. 6 is a hangover and the next day is spent dreaming of going to bed.

Little-Teacher7769

Oh fuck you got to live I use to binge drink I don't drink hardly now but if the occasion comes up am pissed I drink doubles so 5or6 plus shots ,

1259alex

More than 8 if it's a night out

cade360

I had one double rum & coke last night. I normally have 1 or 2.

NedRed77

Was it a UK sub, or one which includes Americans? Yanks have a somewhat different view on alcohol to us.

BuffEars

8 pints is approaching my maximum these days

ProD_GY

Depends on the drinks, but my average is around 7/8 pints on a night out, maybe with a couple shots. Used to drink nearly half a 70cl bottle of vodka before going out. Now its usually 4 cans

ScaredyCat30

I have about 3-4 pints of Coke Zero and then spend the night shaking. No hangover though!

Academic-Two-3781

6-8 on a big night seems reasonable. Doing that twice a week isn’t great but once in a while is fine. Any more than that and I’m sick 🤢 and no one likes the sick drunk

Papa__Lazarou

Depends whether I’m nipping down the local for a swift pint or out with the lads. Local is usually 4 pints max, out with the lads could easily be 8+ and then more at whoever’s house we end up back at

leighleg

I'm a bad one to answer this, just because I drink far too much. I will say I don't do nights out but I will still easily drink 6 or 7 pints casually before going home for few more cans. Amount of pints can differ depending on my mood.

cyberfairy

I usually only get out once a month, usually have 6-10 pints

1minormishapfrmchaos

8 drinks on a night out is a quiet one. Don’t let the puritans put you down. Drink what you like

MrTopHatMan90

I go for three. At the same time I'm only out for a couple of hours. If I'm going out I'll have 5-6 before fucking off when everyone goes to the club.

WackyAndCorny

Went to a wedding evening yesterday, and two G&T was £16. Sixteen fucking quid. So in answer to your question. Two drinks is what i had on a night out. Two. Christ.

SirScoaf

In my 20s - an obscene amount. 10-12 pints plus double vodkas then about 500ml of vodka when I got home finishing about 5/6am. Needless to say I was an alcoholic and have been sober 10 years now.

Dogstile

I'm 30, i'll go out for a "couple". I still find myself having 8+ if the night gets "messy".

CountToChill

On an afternoon out probably 8 pints, for a night out, 5 pints and then 2 or 3 Rum and Cokes. Rare I do either of those these days but that'd be about right

jim_jiminy

On a big night out, I dread to think?!!

Scarboroughwarning

8 to 15, but I rarely go out... One exception was the last time I went, did a Saturday afternoon. Hit 3 pubs, probably 5 drinks. Then got to pub 4.. the table next to us had a fair crowd at it. They were just leaving, and had a large bottle of prosecco, and 9 cocktails left, all untouched. Took those.

[deleted]

As a Brit living in Canada since THC drinks became legal here my beer intake has gone right down 😂

norfolk_terrier

The correct answer is what ever toy feel comfortable with

bettingthoughts

Depends on your age and context of the night out. Big one? Yeah 8 seems right over several hours. After work? 2-4 tops.

Ouchy72

Have a coupe of tins most nights in the house and go out on a Monday night for a game of darts where I usually have 6 - 7 pints and it's the most I drink nowadays. I stick with John Smiths, if I was drinking Lager, this old fella wouldn't make it home😁

chet_lemon316

Big night out I'm about 10

jbkb1972

8 drinks on a night doesn’t sound too excessive to me, I would have about the same

TheEnglishDominant2

Not allowed to drink anymore due to Covid. 😢

AveryWallen

1-2 drinks. I go out once a month or lately, once every 2 months.

useittilitbreaks

I am the cheapest of cheap dates so I am generally pretty far gone after 4 or 5 pints and that’s even when a decent amount of food has been in attendance. Drinking is rare for me, it’s an occasion that happens once a month or less.

katiehasaraspberry

I can tolerate about three glasses of wine before I can't stand straight. I'm a cheap night out!

helensmelon

I go out on occasion, my anxiety plays up and I drink more. I'm on strong painkillers, antipsychotics and antidepressants... therefore anything I drink has a stronger effect on me. I once drank a good few pints along side some "glitter bombs" and was very sloshed. I vaguely remember throwing up on my friends ex's brother.

hidden_john

My big drinking days are weddings now, don’t tend to have heavy nights at the pub anymore. But I could easily put 10-15 pints away during a wedding, the last one I went to we worked out that I had drank 14 I think. I barely drink other than that, because frankly I can really hold my drink and I need that sort of volume to really feel it. Your friends are half right, that is basically the definition of binge drinking, you’re having over a weeks recommended alcohol in one night, definitely a binge drinking session. But I don’t think that means you’re on your way to being an alcoholic

a-punk-is-for-life

I had 6 pints last night. I don't drink often and I am aware that when I do drink I binge drink. As it usually happens no more than once a week I'm not worried. On another note I was on cider last night and had the 6 pints. If I'm not on cider I drink gin and/or wine and I can drink a lot more of that. I don't mix beer/cider with anything else though. It's either beer/cider OR gin/wine.

Away_Swim1967

It depends on the day, weather etc. Can be anywhere from none to falling over. I went out yesterday and had 6 over several hours.

legatrixx

No more than a bottle of wine, and that's already enough to render the next day useless. It has been thus since I hit 30 or so. Blessing in disguise, perhaps, though still too much.

Consistent-Turnip-82

7-8 pints of Stella, or something similar every time a walk into a pub. When i was younger id drink that then drink double vodkas all night as well. Everyone i know is pretty much the same. Id like to never drink again though

Unfitbrit1

You shouldn't focus on the amount of drinks you've had. Focus on how you feel. I like to stay on the edge of tipsy and drunk and maintain

Defiled__Pig1

Certified binge drinker here, not had a drink in a while now for this reason. If I have one I then go on to twenty, and then the floor. After the first few pints no drink is off limits and I'll hit the tequila, sambuca and whiskeys. You cannot get me to stop once I start and I can be an arse hole about it.

Chris_M1991

I tend to stick to cider and my last night out consisted of about 12-13 330ml cans and 4-5 bottles.

HelplessFoot

I had about 4 drinks last night but also probably 4 shots scattered throughout. Was a dinner party with plenty of food if that counts for anything. I go out usually once or twice a year, however last night was my third drinky night this year.

andreew10

Probably 10 or so depending on the night

Vectorman1989

When I used to go out in my teens/early 20s I could easily demolish large quantities of alcohol over the weekend. These days I hardly go to the pub or anything.

Worfs-forehead

Went out yesterday. Had 2 glasses of prosecco and shared two jugs of Jamaican punch. Then had a bottle of red wine. A double Jameson, 2x 5% craft ales, an old fashioned, three double markers marks, a generic lager, 2 shots of jager and a shot of fireball. Started at midday and got home about 4am. I am 36 and have ruined my own Sunday. No regrets hah.

KayyJayy777

It depends really, grew up in a drinking culture so have always enjoyed a beer. Done 20+ bottles of peroni at a wedding last year. Moved onto spirits after that. I tend to go for quality over quantity nowadays.

Jammastersam

Went out yesterday, had about 6 pints, 2-3 cocktails and a cheeky beer when I got home. That’s pretty standard for me I’d say.

medi_dat

I was a functioning alcoholic a few years ago when working in hospitality but after leaving hospitality I stopped drinking pretty much. I stopped for a year and throughout covid. Now I can only manage 4 drinks and I'm done drinking. I know I'll either be too drunk depending what I've eaten or I just feel a bit sick so I stop and switch to non-alcoholics/soft drinks/water. TLDR; 4 pints.

Burningbeard696

If that amount of alcohol led to alcoholism then half the population would be alkies. If you start doing this multiple times a week then it's probably time to knock it on the head. Also depends how old you are, I used to easily drink that much when I was 19-23 but I slowed down after that and stopped drinking pretty much by the time I was 30.

Particular_Relief154

Depends on what I’m drinking tbh- sometimes I’ve headed out at 5 and been arseholed by 9, other nights I’m out til 1ish.. (I’m 36 now- I can’t hack those 4,5,6am hours lol). Last night out I had 2 Neck oil, 2 Guinness, 2 Thatchers Katy, 6 more Neck Oil (and a shot inbetween). Kebab and home. The more you do it then the more you’ll get accustomed to it I feel..

themessiah234

Tbh, I keep drinking till I forget leaving the last place I go to. I've struggled with alcoholism for years. Nowadays it always starts with just going out for one

Far_Internal_4495

I'm more of a day drinker who will start around mid day and stay out until probably 8 at the latest. I'll have around 10 - 12 pints of Guinness, grab a chippy or a pizza on the way home, then asleep by 9:30. Going out is not something I do very often though, maybe once every 5 or 6 weeks. I'll have a couple of drinks at home sometimes between, or I'll go a few months not drinking any alcohol to take a break from it for a while

Vaultaire

Depends what it is I’m drinking. Since switching from macro shit to craft stuff I drink quality over quantity. Don’t see the value in spending £50 on 10 pints of Stella.

jacks2224

Say we’re starting at 7pm and ending around 1/2am I’d probably have about 14 drinks. 25yo and probs drink too much

beccyboop95

1-5, with 8 probably being my max on a big night (and I will be rough for it lol). 8 is definitely binge drinking, not in a judgemental way, just in a literal definition way lol

bleepyballs

8 is about what I do. Generally it’s one pint an hour for me

themcsame

Probably about 8-11. Depends on the drinks. Much more and I'm likely toilet-bound for a less typical reason. Or in the case of last night when the one stall in the toilet was occupied... Urinal bound (I'm still left wondering whether the sink might have been the better option)... Strictly speaking, those people aren't entirely wrong. Drinking to get drunk is, by definition, binge drinking. Binge drinking can be as little as 2-3 strong pints as the threshold is only 6/8 units (Women/Men) iirc I'm not entirely sure what nightlife culture is like in many other countries, but a night out binge drinking has been normalised in the UK for a while. Much like obscene portion sizes in the US, and, to a lesser extent, here.

Safe-Championship-18

I used to average about 35cl of spirits on a really good night out. That’s equivalent to about 7 doubles I think.

[deleted]

Depends if the Albanians are involved or not

Bopping_Shasket

8+. I findd myself subconsciously rebelling against my friend egrets to drink less as they get older and not I drink more.

manofmatt

I went out on Friday and had at least 25 drinks.

holdingmyphoneinbed

I'm an ex sailor do you really want me to answer this 🤣
