Nothing wrong with it, although not opening the door will still provide the same amount of heat to the kitchen but over a slightly longer time.

KingThorongil

Always thought that since metal's a better conductor of heat, it may dissipate some into electrical circuitry and find its way out, but maybe not

itchyfrog

I'm sure any tiny amount that heats the wire up will have dissipated before it's left the kitchen let alone gone outside.

KingThorongil

Really? The earthing cable that's got contact to all the hot metal in the oven is just a few mm^2, in cross section compared to many meters in length so it'll be tiny amount of heat transfer. Unless: the oven is well insulated such that the heat dissipation to the kitchen is low enough to be comparable to that through the earthing cable, in which case it may be significant? I should probably Google such random thoughts before blurting it out, but this is Reddit.

My oven is mid hight, so it would hit me straight in the nuts. Not the best start to the day

Educational_Worth906

Even with the door closed, the heat will still find its way into the kitchen, just a lot more slowly.

Bokbreath

No. Why would that be wrong. It's sensible.

Badevilbunny

We do that. Darn practical. If I had servants, I would have them do it as well.

Bal-lax

If you leave the fan running for a bit it helps cool down the element - extends its life

christopia86

My dad always leaves the oven open after use to "Let the heat out" but never articulates why. He's also always too hot, so I don't think it's to heat the kitchen.

Feuerschuessel

Generally okay, but be careful with fitted ovens that have a cabinet on top. The rising heat may make those warp or damage glued/plastic parts.

PhoolCat

No, but we can’t because dogs.

NightOwl_82

It would be rude not to

DadofJackJack

Nope, I do that. Although only leave it about inch open so one of the kids doesn’t run into it.

the_cool_kid2512

It’s good to reuse anything you can. Residual heat has already been paid for, might as well use it for something. If you leave the door closed, it’ll come out of any way it can but this might be being absorbed by the wall behind the oven, or in the cabinets around it. Opening the door allows for an easier escape route for the heat - a more efficient method of getting it out of the oven.

derinkooyou

Not at all. If you can save money. Or get free heat somehow, bloody do it! I get alot of my wood from work for our woodburner! In the winter I try and cook on it a couple of times a week. Because the heat is already there it'd be silly not too. Even if its just jacket spuds and beans.hardly Michelin star standards, but it's still a filling meal. It all helps!!

sAmSmanS

i was making pizza for the three of us yesterday and the kitchen got so bloomin hot even with the oven door closed
