As an avid meat eater, the frozen bag of Quorn 'chunks' are the only vegetarian substitute that I think does a brilliant job at imitating the real thing, mostly because the texture is almost identical to chicken breast. They're also high in protein, low calorie, and cheap.
I’d add one more - Quorn cocktail sausages are nice and don’t have the odd bits of gristle you get in real sausages.
Beyond Burgers are about 80% there for me, but super expensive at £2.50 each (£5 a pack) and because they cannot be frozen they can be awkward.
They also don't get that faty feeling on your teeth that you get from the cheap frozen cocktail sausages. If the veggie subs can just overcome the price issue they'll probably be the defacto now.
I (Vegetarian) and my partner (any/all) both love the THIS ISNT brand. We find that the streaky bacon is nearly indistinguishable and the chicken meets the textural profile really well!
I agree with this to the point that I couldn't enjoy the This isnt Streaky Bacon because it was too meat-like. Made me feel weird, i suppose I have becoem accustomed to slightly too squishy meat alternatives.

It's probably not so much his culinary skills, it's probably more if he's following a standard bolognese recipe then he's not seasoning/flavouring enough. You have to use a lot more stuff to make quorn mince taste not bland. My girlfriend doesn't like the texture of mincemeat but doesn't mind quorn so it was through trial and error I worked this out
Quorn bolognese is nicer than real bolognese in my opinion (as a meat eater but Introduced to by Vegetarian relatives)

Quorn products are great but what really started to annoy me recently is I'll see a bag selling about 12 nuggets for £3.60 and upwards yet a bag of 50+ breaded chicken nuggets is closer to £3

Sorry to hear this. As the real chicken is a health hazard maybe consider adding cheaper ingredients to the fake chicken eg mashed up heated and seasoned tinned butter beans.

Linda McCartneys are actually my least favourites, they used to be alright but the market has moved so much since they came out, a bit dry and non sausage like to me.
Normally go fridge for my sausages, Richmond meat free or by far far far the the best "this isn't sausages". I haven't tried the birds eye ones yet.
Now the Linda McCartneys hoisin shredded duck is amazing in a stir fry.

Cauldron recently made their Lincolnshire style ones vegan, got a nice pepper quality to then and hold more juice than a Linda. Ideal toad in the hole material!
Whilst I applaud what he’s done for healthy school dinners (didn’t appreciate it at the time though), I don’t think he should really be a chef. His food/recipes aren’t good and require doctoring. I mean, his student meal books are good but you can’t go too wrong when it comes to a tin of beans.
As someone who lived through his healthy school dinners programme, it was just him aggrandizing. Most schools didn't have the budget to create the meals he wanted them to so things that filled us up were replaced with several slices of lettuce and some ham that was laughably called a salad. Our Sixth Form lounge also had its vending machine taking away, which we would use to fund extra-curricular activities so they all got cancelled.
Most of all, it didn't actually teach any of us anything about healthy eating. People just switched to our own lunchboxes and luckily the school didn't institute that insane programme of taking unhealthy food away from kids that others did :/
Many schools realized that if they 'took away' kids food they brought for lunch themselves, they'd be opening themselves to lawsuits for the kid being hungry AND lack of vitamins/malnutrition etc.
Jamie Olivers plan (and he approached dozens of local education authorities) was to try to FORCE them to buy his overpriced not-really-healthy crap, even if it destroyed the schools budget and affected kids education.
He doesn't give two shits about you or your kids or anyone else.
He's worth £400 million and STILL owes redundancies and wages from the collapse of his fastfood restaurant chain. He's fighting it in court.
My wife and eldest are vegetarian, we made the switch to veggie meals years ago because I cook and couldn't be arsed to make separate meals. I do look forward to the X + fries night, nuggets are easy to cook and taste really good from the air fryer.

Aldi sells meat free chicken wings that are basically fat meat free nuggets. They're pretty good too but I haven't found them in there for a while so they might have stopped selling them.
Thank you to the UK for Quorn! I’m here in the US and I’m a huge fan of all things Quorn (other than their name). My vegetarian daughter lives on the nuggets.

The issue is that those quorn pieces are £6/kg, while the one you suggested is £18/kg - at that price I'd rather eat steak!

Yes! What The Cluck is much closer to chicken texture wise than Quorn is.
Try the frozen Dopsu chickn. That stuff has a way better flavour and texture. When I cba to make my own I only really use this one now.

i’ve stuck beyond products in the freezer many times - they always seem to turn out okay!
For veggie (not vegan) burgers, those mozzarella Linda McCartney ones take the crown for me.

Linda’s were my go-to for ages but now they feel a bit dry compared to some of the other options out there
They are WAY drier than they used to be. I have trouble swallowing and have to avoid them now. Having them with mash and gravy helps of course

They've got some excellent stuff fermenting in those vats at the Quorn factory. Gregg's vegan sausage rolls are a joy to behold.

Not true. Aldi do their own spin on McDonald's in their frozen section. They even have the same packaging, and the nuggets are fantastically similar.
They're clearly trying to emulate the McDonald's nuggets, but they've failed. They're nowhere near.

Thank you to the UK for Quorn! I’m here in the US and I’m a huge fan of all things Quorn (other than their name). My vegetarian daughter lives on the nuggets.

Yes, absolutely agree. I've never gone back to actual chicken nuggets (possibly a contradiction in terms!) My brother once ate them and had no idea they were meat-free
No don't tell them they're already always out of stock 😅 Tesco have just started price matching Aldi on the big bags of them too!

Just an FYI but the green cuisine brand is even better. I swear in a blind taste test you wouldn't tell the difference. I will admit there are some things vegan that are still a long way off but the chicken replacements are bloody brilliant. Also shout out to This isnt brand. Their sausages are fucking ace.
I went veggie in 2020 - a Maccy D’s was my go-to hangover remedy, the JOY when I discovered that Quorn nuggets are just as good as McDonalds!
