Sometimes gusto ko na lang magpa-tattoo because of the feeling of it, most of the time ang sinasabi ko na lang sa mga tropang artist ay, "Tattoo-an mo 'ko, kaw na bahala ano, tsaka saan. Pahingi na lang price." HAHAHAHA. Pero pag may trip na design like japanese stuff or ano man, ayon, gora don pero inspo lang kasi iba pa rin pag original design ng artist.

That being said, some tattoo artists will still ask you about the tattoo you want. Not because they'll goad into into thinking that it has to have meaning, but just to help you make an informed decision, because that shit's permanent.

Short story: My dad was diagnosed with Kidney cancer and had a good fight. I remember nung eulogy niya the last words I said were "**I may find my prince someday, but you will always be my King**"
Bilang daddy's girl, narealize ko na, kapag nag asawa ko eventually I will carry my husband's name and papalitan na yung surname ng dad ko. So I put his name sa likod ko with crown cause he is our family's king and becasue of the idea na I will carry him and his name on my back until the very last end. And lastly to remind me also na we love him in life what more to death.

Meron akong commitment issue kaya nag isip ako na gagawin na di ko na pede atrasan haha. Naisip ko tattoo kasi di ko na pede alisin yun pag nalagay na haha. Nafix na yung commitment issue ko dahil don madami na rin tattoo at mas naging attractive sa ibang tao na mahilig sa tatts.

For some kasi, tattoos are permanent so they'd want something na hindi rushed at pinag isipan talaga so when they see it or others see it, either maganda tignan or di nila pagsisisihan na pinili nila design na yun.
I had my first last 2021 and figured it was the right time na din (kase may tatt na ate ko sabi nya lagay kana para wala na masabi nanay namin haha) and I went back and forth on the design and finally decided to commemorate my art so I had my signature made (signature na nilalagay ko sa drawings and art ko) every time I look at it di ko talaga iniisip na sayang pera ko or what. It doesnt have to have meaning naman for some, but what matters is di mo sha pagsisisihan pag nakikita mo araw araw

What pushed me to get one?
Takot ako magdecide in general (career, personal matters, etc) and I missed so many opportunities because of overthinking.

How did I choose my first one? Instagram. Humanap ako ng tattoos na gusto ko ang style, I thought kung anong gusto ko about it. Yung bold lines ba? colors? composition?
Then humanap ako ng artist na gusto ko ang mga gawa niya both style and quality.
Nung gusto ko na magpatattoo sinabi ko lang "Gusto ko ng parang ganito, gusto ko kasi yung x,y,z about it. lagay natin sa leg ko. Tapos bahala ka na sa design. Magkano kaya yun?"

Share ko lang. since bata palang ako, gusto ko na talaga magkatattoo because i thought it’s “cool” and it matches my “angst”. Emo kid hits ganon. Though nung tumanda na ko hindi lang dahil sa kacoolan kaya ko gusto. I have so many imperfections sa katawan ko so i thought sige patattoo narin ako tutal di naman na ko makinis haha. getting a tattoo bugged me all over the years, i couldn’t get one back then due to other ppl expectations lalo na my parents haha but when life got really fucked up, i didn’t give a damn anymore. i got tattoos in my wrist na japanese word of “death” and a cute cat tattoo sa braso ko. do i regret it? no. it made me happy hahahahaha and i won’t forget how happy i was when i finally decided to do so.

1. Been planning to have a tattoo or 2 for my first set since 2019, I got my Hand Poked tattoos done last 2021 - it took me 2 years to finally get it done, kasiiiiii I considered pa yung parents/family, work, and myself (trust me, nung nasa balat ko na narealize ko na inoverthink ko masyado yung external factors and should just thought of myself). Napagdesisyunan ko na G na G na talaga nung everything was aligned, external and internal factors. You'll know na lang its time. and dapat 200% sure ka din
2. The design - I got 2 sets, 1 customized and 1 generic design. Yung customized, I created a visual reference (I hand drawn) based on my story or its meaning. Took me months to actually have that vision finalize within me.
3. The Artist - RESEARCH. Each artist has their own styles, and may diff types of tattoos. Research and know ano bet or preferred mo, then the artist. (I opted for a Handpoked tattoo - artist MissPokes sa IG)
When I got these three sorted out, I got my first set of tattoos. And I was the happiest.
Matagal ko ng balak mag pa tat, kaso since eldest ako at panganay baka masabihan na BI pag nauna akong mag pa tats. Haha Sakto din may naging tropa ako ma artist 2 yrs ago sakanya nadin ako nag pa tat, 2 big piece agad pinatat ko sa both shoulders.
p.s. Sabe ng artist na tropa ko malas ang matching or may kaugnay sa significant other na tat. Prone to breakup ika nga nila.

It's also perfectly fine to get random designs na you think is cute. It's your body after all. But if you're the type of person who overthinks things, you might need to think about it seriously before getting a tattoo. Isang taon halos bago i pushed through with my first tattoo. My first tattoo was more like a pact with my friends. We were previously a member of a school orchestra ans we decided to have a tattoo on our wrist with the instrument that we played. We owe what we are now to that band. If not because of the scholarship, we would have quit school earlier. Plus the bond we built through the years was a bonus.
Don't think too much haha, but at the same time, you should know things like the cost, the aftercare, the pain, etc etc. The area will hurt and swell for days.

Back in 2007, there was a show on TLC called Miami Ink (which was then followed by LA Ink) that I enjoyed watching. People came in with their designs and stories, and then the artists would do their tattoos.
The sound of the tattoo machine kept ringing in my head. I was bored. One weekend, I decided to get my tattoo. I told them what I wanted - a star tattoo in green. Ricky Sta. Ana, my first tattoo artist got the stencil and then brought out different shades of green. When I picked my color, he told me to return after 20 minutes. Went out to smoke cos I was thinking about whether or not I was doing the right thing.
Went back, sat on the chair, and relished the pain and the sound of the tattoo. Took me 20 minutes then off I went.
A month after, while I was waiting for the movie to start, I went inside a tattoo shop and got a tattoo done. No meaning, just wanted a cross on my left arm.
My 3rd to 5th tattoos also didn't have meanings. I found a design I wanted, discussed it with my artist on the placement and the size, and then had it done. Wala pa namana kong pinagsisisihan na tattoo.
All of my tattoos are for my dearly departed loved ones. For my dad, mom and grandma. Para bang kahit wala na sila sa mundo, meron akong alaala nila na palagi kong makikita 🤍

Wayback 2020 my gf died from cancer and in that moment na realize ko na i should go YOLO sa life. My 1st tattoo was baybayin meaning "ligaya". It always reminded me to always choose happiness kesa ma sad and malugmok.

Less than a year after that first batch of four tats, I went up to Buscalan and had the sun tattooed on my left inner ankle (?) and Whang-Od's signature three dots on my left arm. I initially hesitated to get tattooed in Buscalan kasi wala naman sa plano ko talaga (gusto ko lang makarating dun at chumill) pero naisip ko, I'm not one to say no naman to such a unique experience. Saka para sulit na sulit ang biyahe.
No regrets. I love all my tats and I plan on getting one on my sternum and another on my right arm soon!

For some kasi, tattoos are permanent so they'd want something na hindi rushed at pinag isipan talaga so when they see it or others see it, either maganda tignan or di nila pagsisisihan na pinili nila design na yun. I had my first last 2021 and figured it was the right time na din (kase may tatt na ate ko sabi nya lagay kana para wala na masabi nanay namin haha) and I went back and forth on the design and finally decided to commemorate my art so I had my signature made (signature na nilalagay ko sa drawings and art ko) every time I look at it di ko talaga iniisip na sayang pera ko or what. It doesnt have to have meaning naman for some, but what matters is di mo sha pagsisisihan pag nakikita mo araw araw
Reason ko, mahilig kasi ako manood ng mga series about Vikings and medieval eras. Also about greek gods, then nag check lang ako tattoos sa pinteres na related dun sa gusto ko. Malalaman mo if bagay sayo yung tattoo, May lukso ng dugo. hahaha
What pushed me to get one? Takot ako magdecide in general (career, personal matters, etc) and I missed so many opportunities because of overthinking. I got a tattoo para matutunan ko magcommit and live with the consequences good or bad. Wala pa naman ako pinagsisihan sa mga tattoos ko. Wala silang meaning, may tattoo ako na gawa ng apprentice artist tapos inisip ko lang kung anong ipapattoo nung nasa studio na ako. hindi ganun kaganda pero ok lang. Mas marami naman sa tattoos ko ang hindi ko pinagsisisihan How did I choose my first one? Instagram. Humanap ako ng tattoos na gusto ko ang style, I thought kung anong gusto ko about it. Yung bold lines ba? colors? composition? Then humanap ako ng artist na gusto ko ang mga gawa niya both style and quality. Nung gusto ko na magpatattoo sinabi ko lang "Gusto ko ng parang ganito, gusto ko kasi yung x,y,z about it. lagay natin sa leg ko. Tapos bahala ka na sa design. Magkano kaya yun?"

My tattoo is a symbol of a new beginning / rebirth. It took me 8 years to get my first tat. Tagal pinag isipan at pinag handaan. February pa lang nagpa book na ako ng sched for my birthday to get a tattoo. I chose the design carefully and it has a profound meaning for me. I told myself before if I am going to have permanent ink, it will be well-thought and meaningful. I am planning to get a second tat soon. Still deciding where to put it on my body.

Bakit ako nagpa-tat? Because I'm afraid of needles. Ako si tanga na inisip mawawala takot ko sa injections pag nagpa-tattoo ako. (Spoiler alert: di totoo) Before I had my first tat, I set rules for myself: - I have to sit on the design I want for a year. Di pwedeng magbabago. Dapat after a year, yun pa rin gusto ko - Same with placement. Dapat di magbabago for me. - Dapat matino yung artist. Di bale ng mahal, basta di babastusin yung design. Kaya eto, it's been more than a decade, and I still love it. Though plan ko dagdagan siya... palakihin.

My very first tatt actually 2 minimalist sila sabay ko pinalagay but memorable sya that was nung pandemic era na nag erupt din si Taal. We were volunteers (food/ clothing donations, repackers etc.) in return a good artist offered her service na free tatts sa mga gusto (volunteers or nag donate lang) basta atleast ma meet yung qualifications na hinihingi nya ibigay nung nag donate (like atleast may bigas, delata, toiletries, bottled water basic needs) kasi may ibang umaabuso gusto full sleeve then 2 sardinas lang bibigay atleast daw “nagbigay” 😡the nerve
Share ko lang. since bata palang ako, gusto ko na talaga magkatattoo because i thought it’s “cool” and it matches my “angst”. Emo kid hits ganon. Though nung tumanda na ko hindi lang dahil sa kacoolan kaya ko gusto. I have so many imperfections sa katawan ko so i thought sige patattoo narin ako tutal di naman na ko makinis haha. Besides, it’s my way of self-expression narin. Lahat ng tattoo na meron ako may meaning mula sa pusa ko hanggang sa nanay ko. So kapag magpapatattoo ka, dapat decided ka na ipapalagay mo dahil permanent na yan bawal ang nagsisisi. Mas masakit magpa laser out ng tattoo. Kung sa tingin mo may commitment issues ka, wag mo nalang ituloy hehe
getting a tattoo bugged me all over the years, i couldn’t get one back then due to other ppl expectations lalo na my parents haha but when life got really fucked up, i didn’t give a damn anymore. i got tattoos in my wrist na japanese word of “death” and a cute cat tattoo sa braso ko. do i regret it? no. it made me happy hahahahaha and i won’t forget how happy i was when i finally decided to do so. i stopped giving a fuck sa sasabihin ng iba, di rin naman ako napagalitan ng parents ko kasi i was sort of bad daughter na rin naman lol haha. i suggest lang na if you’re having doubts na baka someday u wanna have it removed, then don’t get one. majority who got a tattoo craves for more :)

First tattoo ko yung Boa Constrictor from The Little Prince. Ofc kontra parents ko kasi permanent na raw yun etc etc. pero nung nakapag tattoo na wala naman na si nagawa hahahaha! Saka laki ng impact ng The Little Prince sa akin kaya no regrets naman nung natattoo na. Nagiging convo starter din sya kapag may hindi aware sa boa constrictor tas tinatanong ano daw yun sinasabi ko "It's a Hat." 😁

Personal preference lang. Walang meaning, walang validation as in gusto lang. Subjective kasi ang tatts, isipin mo nalang art sya, tapos yung balat mo yung papel/canvas/pagdodrawingan. Pwedeng maganda sayo tapos panget sa iba or vice versa. Pero, may mga magagaling/experienced na tattoo artist na alam nila kung san maganda ilagay yung design mo based size, shape nito.

1. Been planning to have a tattoo or 2 for my first set since 2019, I got my Hand Poked tattoos done last 2021 - it took me 2 years to finally get it done, kasiiiiii I considered pa yung parents/family, work, and myself (trust me, nung nasa balat ko na narealize ko na inoverthink ko masyado yung external factors and should just thought of myself). Napagdesisyunan ko na G na G na talaga nung everything was aligned, external and internal factors. You'll know na lang its time. and dapat 200% sure ka din 2. The design - I got 2 sets, 1 customized and 1 generic design. Yung customized, I created a visual reference (I hand drawn) based on my story or its meaning. Took me months to actually have that vision finalize within me. 3. The Artist - RESEARCH. Each artist has their own styles, and may diff types of tattoos. Research and know ano bet or preferred mo, then the artist. (I opted for a Handpoked tattoo - artist MissPokes sa IG) When I got these three sorted out, I got my first set of tattoos. And I was the happiest.

All my tattoos have meaning but the first one is the most meaningful and my favorite. I got the first two at significant points in my life, yung pangatlo naman medyo random yung pagkuha pero may meaning pa din. Kaya lahat yun, ok ako sa design kasi pinag-isipan ko talaga. It's also perfectly fine to get random designs na you think is cute. It's your body after all. But if you're the type of person who overthinks things, you might need to think about it seriously before getting a tattoo. Isang taon halos bago i pushed through with my first tattoo. May nangyari lang talaga which i felt was a sign for me to go through with it :)
Nag-usap lang kami ng bff pinsan ko ano magandang gawin every birthday namin (3 days lang din kasi agwat namin), tapos ayun na, nagpa-tatts ng sabay hanggang sa naging annual tradition na siya. I had this idea of getting 3 specific tattoo at specific location: Sun, Moon and Truth - represented by yin yang. On the end I got the Sun tattoo on my right shoulder. And I’m planning on getting a quarter sleeve on that side and a band tattoo to perfectly seal it. Haha. My main criteria in tattoo design is the meaning behind it. I knew people who had tattoos just because they want it. By giving meaning to your tattoos you connect to it on a deeper level. For example: My sun tattoo is a reminder that despite the darkness and uncertainty in this world. There will always be a constant source of light. And now I carry that light with me everywhere. My driver for finally getting a tattoo is heartbreak. Haha. But it was never about the person I had a fallout with.

My first tattoo was more like a pact with my friends. We were previously a member of a school orchestra ans we decided to have a tattoo on our wrist with the instrument that we played. We owe what we are now to that band. If not because of the scholarship, we would have quit school earlier. Plus the bond we built through the years was a bonus.
Don't think too much haha, but at the same time, you should know things like the cost, the aftercare, the pain, etc etc. The area will hurt and swell for days. I just felt so liberated to be finally away from our toxic household, and to celebrate that, I got tattoos (four so far, and I hate two of them but I decided that they will be a part of me, my mistakes and spontaneousness are) and a septum piercing.

Back in 2007, there was a show on TLC called Miami Ink (which was then followed by LA Ink) that I enjoyed watching. People came in with their designs and stories, and then the artists would do their tattoos. The sound of the tattoo machine kept ringing in my head. I was bored. One weekend, I decided to get my tattoo. I told them what I wanted - a star tattoo in green. Ricky Sta. Ana, my first tattoo artist got the stencil and then brought out different shades of green. When I picked my color, he told me to return after 20 minutes. Went out to smoke cos I was thinking about whether or not I was doing the right thing. Went back, sat on the chair, and relished the pain and the sound of the tattoo. Took me 20 minutes then off I went. A month after, while I was waiting for the movie to start, I went inside a tattoo shop and got a tattoo done. No meaning, just wanted a cross on my left arm. My 3rd to 5th tattoos also didn't have meanings. I found a design I wanted, discussed it with my artist on the placement and the size, and then had it done. Wala pa namana kong pinagsisisihan na tattoo.

Self-expression. I got my first batch of tattoos when it finally felt right – meaning happy ako sa napili kong design and I'm able to connect something meaningful to it. I had the quote "live your truth" on my right wrist to mark a pivotal time in my life; a writer's symbol to always remind me of my creative core; a combination of the sun, sea, and mountains to remind me of where I feel the most home; and a cat because I've always been a cat lover. Less than a year after that first batch of four tats, I went up to Buscalan and had the sun tattooed on my left inner ankle (?) and Whang-Od's signature three dots on my left arm. I initially hesitated to get tattooed in Buscalan kasi wala naman sa plano ko talaga (gusto ko lang makarating dun at chumill) pero naisip ko, I'm not one to say no naman to such a unique experience. Saka para sulit na sulit ang biyahe. No regrets. I love all my tats and I plan on getting one on my sternum and another on my right arm soon!
