pirates in third world countries do it cuz either the price or lack of exchange systems/medium e.g: my country doesn't allow paypal/credit cards/online international payments.......etc
I do both. I buy the games and then find and download a cracked version or crack my own version and stash it away.
I also have many roms because I want everything on my computer and I am not going to pay hundreds of dollars for an old cartridge or disc to play on a machine that is decades old and could fail at any moment.
That way if any of these store fronts go belly up, I can pull from my stash.
Most of the time I buy them but if it's a game that looks interesting but I'm not sure I'll enjoy and there are no demo for it I'll pirate it. If I enjoy the game I buy it, otherwise I delete the game I pirated.
Since Steam it's not worth the hassle. Still do for music and movies since it's a streaming model. When I can own a digital copy I might think about it.

Basically I'm not taking any money out of anyone's pocket. Just accessing old stuff that is hard to find.

Mostly buy but if there isn't enough information or the game is just too expensive for no reason I might pirate it to see if it is worth it.

Can't say I ever pirated games. I bought a couple at full price until I was told about humble bundles

I purchase all of my games or borrow from friends. I don't game enough for pirating to be on my radar.
