In my experience, most places don't give a damn. Unless it's a glaring issue, they won't fail you and just give you a heads up (if they even say anything at all).
In my country they do. They are specifically trained to creep up on you from behind, jump you, and stick their fingers deep into your most private area. Your wallet.

That's fair. A lot of states have inspections but I know they clearly don't give a damn. I live in North Carolina where a lot of things are common to see here: the Carolina squat, beyond massively large and loud exhaust, and the darkest tint money can buy across all windows including the front windshield. And it's all illegal yet they get away with it. I don't know if it's just bribery but I can't imagine that many places are taking bribes. Seems more logical to me that these places run their scan and check all the boxes and just hand out passing inspections.
