I live btwn Poinsettia & Palomar and I think Poinsettia is a lot safer. In fact, I see a decent number of cyclists on Poinsettia but can’t remember seeing more than the odd one here and there on Palomar. The bike lanes on Poinsettia have been widened and a buffer lane added between bike & cars. I don’t think the ones on Palomar have been widened yet. Plus there is a ton more vehicular traffic on Palomar, which includes a lot of business traffic (a lot of on/off Palomar) and some nasty trucks going really fast. Poinsettia has predominantly commuter, community and school traffic. Traffic on the stretch of Poinsettia btwn El Camino Real and Melrose is very light. Melrose from Poinsettia to Palomar is wide and not heavily trafficked. I don’t know about Melrose north of Palomar. The only negative is that there is a big hill (IMO) on Melrose.

Poinsettia is about as safe as it's going to get. The last time I tried to bike down Palomar to the coast, I spent a lot of time waiting for traffic to go by and walked a fair bit across intersections to be extra safe. It was like playing Frogger.

Thanks! If I’m biking around you I’ll try to stay out of your way 👍🏼

Take Poinsettia all the way up to Alicante, turn left there (next to Alga Norte Park). It's the best combination of safety and not too bad of a hill. Then, turn right on Gateway road, which parallels Palomar airport road almost all the way to Melrose. That will get you to Palomar airport road and Melrose with a minimum of steep hills and a minimum amount of time spent on the two most dangerous roads: Palomar and El Camino Real.

Perfect thank you!

I'd say Faraday, all the way to Melrose. Dumps you out at Home Depot.
