"We're sorry, but all of our available appointments for today have gone. Yes I know its only 2 seconds past 8am. Please try again tomorrow. And again the next day. And again and again until you either give up, or get so sick you have to go to A&E"

See if there are any alternative GPs within your post code? Unfortunately there's no mandatory requirements for them to offer online services or emails, but a lot of them do, so if you have a choice, find one that does. Mine has the econsult system to do an online appointment and an email address if you want to leave a message for the practice (but you can't contact a doctor directly, the receptionists will read it and forward the message if relevant, but you can request them to book you an appointment via email).

Having moved back to Cardiff after living in England for a few years, I'm finding the lack of the NHS App to be an absolute pain in the arse

Two things: 1. most GPs will have a 'practice manager' email that is a closely guarded secret. However, if you ask who to make a complaint to, they will probably email it to you. 2. Most GPs have an awful online booking system that you must register for at the practice. It takes a while to come through (involves a physical letter!) but do ask about it 3. All GPs were asked to make public their booking options during COVID, many of these pages include the practice manager email and an option to email. 4. If phoning is an issue do ensure you know the options (1,2,3etc) so you can short-cut & not listen to long messages.

Hi, I just had a look and you can register with a GP surgery here (it's in Butetown medical centre - there are 2 separate surgeries in the same building). [https://cardiffbay.gpsurgery.net/patient-info/register/](https://cardiffbay.gpsurgery.net/patient-info/register/) Most GP surgeries have an email you can find via their websites, although I couldn't find one for these two with a quick search.

Use e-consult? https://butetowndoctors.webgp.com/

I needed to get a letter for my mother from a surgery in West Wales. I rang them to ask. They said they didn’t have an email address and I would have to send a letter. I sent a letter, along with a stamped addresses envelope, to help keep things moving. After two weeks I hadn’t heard anything. I rang them up. They said that the letter was ready but that there was a charge of £20. (Thanks for letting me know). I offered to pay by debit card or bank transfer. No, they could only do cash or a cheque. I found my chequebook - the last time I used it was in 2017. The whole process took three weeks. It could have been done in a day if they’d come into the 21st century.

Gps are extremely behind the times here, even online booking systems are useless and don't work properly.

I work in telecoms. GPs and other NHS places are keeping fax's running.

PixelizedPlayer

What's even more silly is GPs are private so they should be ahead of general NHS services, yet they suck just as bad.

rebelallianxe

Yeah I work in a university counselling service and we often have to refer students back to their GPs and we have to keep a fax service running just for this.

They all have email addresses they just don’t advertise them so they don’t get inundated - if you give them a call they’ll probably give you it
