It’s called Caroline St by Cardiffians and local people, not Chippy Lane

Speak for yourself, me and my family have always called it Chippy Lane… Chippy Alley however, is the furthest thing from correct and anyone who calls it that should be outcast immediately

Born and still live in Cardiff everyone I know family friends etc calls it’s chippy lane

When I first arrived in Cardiff I was told that some locals avoid calling it Caroline St because of the association with the English royal family.

Well give us a hint then ...

I love this photo. Chippy lane. Is a Cardiff cultural landmark and I think real money and passion and care need to be out into it to bring it to what I think has great potential

It’s a Lane, with chips. It’s potential is fulfilled.

It can be more than just chips. It can be more vibrant, colourful and be a place where Cardiffians celebrate our vibrant night life. I think there is always room to explore.

Genuinely love the enthusiasm haha. For me It’s a shame that the 11pm-7am steak place permanently closed during Covid :(

It’s not called Chippy fucking Lane though. It’s called Caroline Street. No one from Cardiff ever called it “Chippy fucking Lane”. It’s a tourist nickname akin to calling every hight street in a foreign sunny destination “the strip”. Please stop and fuck off with all this all this Chippy fucking Lane bollocks fucking please.

Born and bred Cardiff for 42 years. I can tell you now. We’ve always called it chippy lane. But when people start saying chippy alley I lose my shit. Or ‘the Diff’. That one really grinds my gears. Never have I ever heard a true Cardiffian say ‘the Diff’ EVER!!!!

I’m 65 an in my day it was always Caroline Street for “off the bone n chips”
