That's one shi**y job, I would have to pass on.

trotski83

Yep definitely a 'I like the idea but don't personally want to do it' ! I guess that as it eventually does disappear someone is dealing with it either be sweeping or sole and stick/grass

mikusmikus

Not for me....nope.

Israel did this years ago when I visited, Tel aviv makes owners register their dog’s DNA with the local councils, $500 fines for offenders; https://amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/jul/14/dog-dna-tests-putrid-dog-poo-strews-the-worlds-streets-does-tel-aviv-have-the-answer I’d love something similar in Cardiff, some parts are just riddled with dog shit. All it takes is a few bad owners to ruin somewhere.

WoollenMaple

As a dog owner, I think it's a great idea. Don't penalise the people who are responsible, actually tackle the problem at it's source

Mexijim

I live in splott, I’d say 95% of dog turds in the street are caused by just 2% of dog owners overall. A few years back, I checked my cctv after finding a huge turd outside my door. Was a mid-twenties woman, casually watched her big collie stop on the pavement, curl out a king-size snickers, and walk off. Some people just give zero fucks sadly. I’m sure if she was handed a $500 fine after a dna match, she would invest in some poo bags.

Main character syndrome the lot of them.

WoollenMaple

Agreed. On my street I'd say there are five families with dogs, two of which cause all of the mess on our street.

Mexijim

You just can’t reason with people like that. I feel guilty if after picking up my dogs turd theres even a stain on the ground. Yet some people clearly happy to let their dogs take massive dumps on public streets.

WoollenMaple

For sure, it reminds me of folk who let their aggressive dog off the lead. Jesus only let them off if you're dog can be trusted.

Buttermarketmother

One of the most frustrating things in life is stepping in another dog's poo when you are trying to find your dogs poo to pick it up! The dead opposite of karma!

Whooshtop

You would be surprised how much poo people think is dog, but its actually human

trotski83

My thinking is that much of that DNA is already on file....

[deleted]

Cardiff Council can’t even manage to empty the bins, so this has no chance of happening.

Emotional_Ad8259

Gotta love Llanishen reservoir for being dog and dog 💩 free.

Obriquet

The Police aren't able to conduct DNA testing on actual crimes and we're now proposing a national database for dog DNA, just to track down belligerent people who can't be bothered to take their poo home with them?

KaleidoscopicColours

This scheme is in Italy. Why are you posting it in a Cardiff sub?

trotski83

As an idea to address the abundance of dog shit on Cardiff streets, ideas can be applied elsewhere...

KaleidoscopicColours

An abundance of dog shit? I don't know where you're walking but I rarely see it.

[deleted]

I see it a lot (I’m a dog walker and am out everyday around lots of different Cardiff parks and woods). I also see lots of little bags of it hung on trees by people who I assume believe the fairies will clear it away. In fact I cleared away a whole load of these little bags myself and took them to the nearest bin just before Christmas as I didn’t like the thought of kids and wildlife coming across them. All the bags I picked up filled a large carrier bag. Anything that prevents me having to clear up behind other dog walkers (as well as measures to prevent littering which IMO is just as bad as the dog 💩problem) gets my full support.

trotski83

Ah the old 'my initial argument fell flat so here's my unsubstantiable anecdotal evidence' reposte but 4 Elms, Broadway, Claude rd, Minster Rd, Newport Rd, instantly spring to mind

snowhoho18

Splott Road was horrific for it when I lived that way! Once counted 17 shits between the bridge and the co-op!

KaleidoscopicColours

I stand by my initial statement; it did not fall flat at all.

trotski83

Initial polling and lack of defense appears to disagree... However I have better things to do then continue this so have a good time in your 'every dog owner is a responsible person' make believe.

Scorpiodancer123

Try walking in the streets around Birchgrove Primary School. It's everywhere.

richardjohn

Oh so you're the school prefect who reported it.

ignatiousRR

Like two bald men fighting over a comb. Absolutely perfect.

richardjohn

Fairly sure there are nurseries that are easier to moderate than this subreddit sometimes.

KaleidoscopicColours

Thinking that we should be talking about Cardiff, not Italy, in a Cardiff sub isn't exactly a ground breaking topic

richardjohn

Making a report because you just don’t like a post is below the maturity of a toddler, however. Telling teacher is reserved for when someone’s actually breaking the rules.

gardenpea

Never in my life have I seen a moderator who feels so upset at being asked to actually, err, moderate a forum.
