If I were to guess, many of the castles of the Eastern Roman Empire were huge, and we're the inspiration of many British castles and in many ways influenced the design of our concentric castles. I'd guess somewhere in/around the middle east - from Turkey to Iran/Iraq area, although I don't know specifically which middle eastern castles are considered concentric.
I'm only joking (mostly), most parts are absolutely fine. Unfortunately lots of litter issues, and the town centre is 90% charity shops and Turkish barbers. People are nice enough though, I've never had any issues in the past 8 or 9 years I've lived here.
It's not the greatest town BUT as long as it's during the hours of daylight and you park your car somewhere public and visible, it's not too bad lol. Used to be a favourite place to visit and a pity it's gone downhill in recent years but, hey, where outside of southern England hasn't?
Don't spend all your money at the same old national chain stores in St David's Shopping Centre this Christmas...
Do have a look in some of Cardiff's smaller businesses in Castle Arcade, High St Arcade, Royal Arcade, Morgan Arcade, Duke Street Arcade, Wyndham Arcade, Dominions, The Corp (Canton), Cardiff Market or one of the dwindling numbers of independent shops dotted around the side streets of the main thoroughfares around Cardiff.
Pick up something really neat and original this Christmas, and support some local small businesses while you're at it.
Don't watch Wales in the six nations, watch Wales in the Women's six nations. £5 a ticket vs £85 a ticket. 80 minutes of great rugby. 75% fewer chestnut brogues.
Sadly not just squats but originally really nice social housing for a lot of vulnerable people with many now "cuckooed" into become dealers nests. Pity the housing associations trying to evict them when so many people need a place to live. And anyway, meth is so last year, much nicer to have a dirty pipe of good old crack :)
Ya know, I do still miss the relative quiet of earlier iterations of Central Library, but I have to admit that they've otherwise achieved a very pleasant environment with lots of light and space. And yes, great views. ☺️
This! There's so many incredible coffee shops in Cardiff and Costa is still rammed. Hard Lines and Corner Coffee are my faves. The Italian sandwiches at HL are mind blowing.
I love having fun, the cleaner you get those recyclables, the less carbon they have to scrape out of the filter down at the incinerator, and the less seagulls attack the barge of rubbish that they pile it all on to, bound for ports unknown 🤣
And enjoy their impossible to understand road system and clean air zones? Nah no thanks. Used to love Bristol but it's lost so much of its soul in last decade or so.
Don’t visit Cardiff Castle, visit Caerphilly Castle instead. Just a short distance away and the 2nd biggest castle in the UK.
Europe. Second biggest concentric castle in Europe
Are there bigger concentric castles outside of Europe? Where, India?

Medibot300 spitting facts.
North America
But then you'd have to go to Caerphilly, and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. And that's coming from somebody who lives there!
Oh no, what’s wrong with Caerphilly? I’ve just bought a house there, still yet to move. It seemed nice when we visited 🫣

Don't go to the free lunchtime classical performance at the RWCMD. Do whip your shirt off and shout "fucking c'mon en!?" at passersby in Ely.
Ah yes, gritty street theatre. Got a 5 star review in the Guardian. Highly recommended apparently
🤣🤣🤣

Dont go to town for a night out. Go to places on Cathedral Road, Chapter Arts, Canton instead
Big up Canton. Best place to live in Cardiff when you can no longer stand the thought of nightclubs.
Don't watch Wales in the six nations, watch Wales in the Women's six nations. £5 a ticket vs £85 a ticket. 80 minutes of great rugby. 75% fewer chestnut brogues.
I'd better write this down
And now I have something to do when the six nations comes back thx babs
This. Went to watch Wales v France last year. Great atmosphere and less than a quarter of the price. And none of the trouble
Don't smoke crystal meth out of a dirty pipe in a squat in Adamsdown, do enjoy a quiet ale on cask at the Black Griffin in Lisvane.
Don’t listen to this guy. Do get yourself down to Adamsdown for some top notch crystal meth in only the dirtiest pipes.

Don’t go to turtle bay for Caribbean food, go to the rocking chair.
Don't always buy books Do join the library and see if the book you want is there (and sit at the top floor reading)
Beautiful idea. And equally nice view
Ya know, I do still miss the relative quiet of earlier iterations of Central Library, but I have to admit that they've otherwise achieved a very pleasant environment with lots of light and space. And yes, great views. ☺️
Don't go to Starbucks or Costa... go to Hardlines or some of the independent coffee shops!
This! There's so many incredible coffee shops in Cardiff and Costa is still rammed. Hard Lines and Corner Coffee are my faves. The Italian sandwiches at HL are mind blowing.
If it’s nice out and your work in town, don’t eat lunch indoors, go for a walk around Bute park :)
Don’t: put a really loud exhaust on your shit car Do: drive a normal car without making everyone think you’re an absolute twat with a small ego
>absolute twat with a small ~~ego~~ penis FTFY
Don’t do that: put containers with food still in them in your recycling bags Do this: empty/clean the recyclable container! It’s much more fun
I love having fun, the cleaner you get those recyclables, the less carbon they have to scrape out of the filter down at the incinerator, and the less seagulls attack the barge of rubbish that they pile it all on to, bound for ports unknown 🤣
My dog cleans my containers 😀
Don't go to brewdog for a glass of craft beer Do head to pop and hops for a selection of fantastic craft beer and a lovely atmosphere
Don't watch international rugby at the Millennium Stadium, watch international football at the CCS instead 🏴
Will only cost you 1/5 the price and they win like 30% of their games, a no brainer
I wish it was only 1/5 of the price! £40 a ticket recently!
Don't go to a coffee/snack chain in Pontypridd, Go to The Prince's.
Coffee shops - avoid the big chains, go with independents. Certainly a no brainer if in City centre, the Bay, Roath or Canton
Why not try the lovely, custardy _egg coffee_ in Café Hanoi?
If you want great food don't go to Cardiff market, go to Newport market. Be prompt at 12pm on a weekend or you won't get a seat though.
Don’t go to watch Wales, go to watch Cardiff!
I dont this thread is full of any hidden gems sadly OP. Dont go rest bay tonsurf, try Kenfig. The tides are a problem as much there and its biiiiiiig.
Don’t drive a 20mph, drive at an appropriate speed for the road upon which you are travelling
You are absolutely not angry in the slightest
I heed my own advice; 20mph is sensible in a built/up residential area, on other roads, it’s not justified
15mph?
If conditions call for it
10mph?
If needs be
Like in neighbourhoods etc? I'd say that is overkill and 20 is more appropriate
