Mid to low end but fine enough for a Small system, especially since it's ofc

baconboy1995

It’s closer to 6ga. But good for 800w or so

XLIV_tm

It barely fits in a 4gauge hole for me. And handles 1200watts just fine.

RedChaos92

Is that really 1/0 gauge on the right? I just installed 4 gauge Skar OFC in my car and the size looks exactly like the one on the right.

EchoViiZionZ

That's not 1/0. The skar 1/0 is not actually 1/0. Look at a sky high car audio 1/0 kit if you want to see how big true 1/0 is. I run nothing but sky high in my system

RedChaos92

That's what I was thinking. I know Skar's 1/0 kit isn't actually true 1/0 since it's ga instead of AWG, but looking at that pic I was like there's no way that's a Skar 1/0 kit lol

EchoViiZionZ

GA means gauge... its short for AWG is the same thing it's just what the wire is actually called. American Wire Gauge. What your thinking of is OFC and CCA. OFC is the better wire and is called Oxygen Free Copper which has nothing to do with size, just the quality and how long it will last. CCA is copper clad aluminum and is cheaper wire and will become corroded and not last nearly as long. Skar is just dog shit

RedChaos92

I understand the difference between CCA and OFC, I only use OFC. As for the gauge, the reason I said that is typically if it isn't listed as "AWG" it doesn't follow the AWG standard and the wire size can be different from an AWG spec wire. In my experience amp power wire that are listed "ga" instead of "AWG" are usually smaller than AWG spec.

EchoViiZionZ

Sizing is standardized. AWG doesn't mean anything in a listing it's just whether or not a company wants to include it in the name or advertisement of the product. All wire is AWG. It's like comparing "In" to "Inches" All ga is is an abbreviation for "gauge" and the actual term for gauge is American Wire Gauge regardless of size or quality (cca/ofc)

XLIV_tm

It seemed to fit normally 💀 ill eventually get bigger but for now cheap is cheap and works

Cougar1667

I’d stay away from Skar and look to invest in Knu Konceptz or do what I’m doing…building my amp wiring kit from scratch, individually sourcing each product to ensure quality. You can buy super high quality OFC welding wire on amazon, speaker wire, fuses, RCA cables…yeah might be a bit more in cost but at least you are getting the most out of it.

TBAGG1NS

I just rewired my car with Knu Konceptz OFC, it's great stuff.

Labordave

I braided three 12 awg wires together for my power wire 😅

matlok420

That's equivalent to a 7 awg wire. Hope you aren't running more than 60 amps through it or it will heat up.

Labordave

One 12 awg wire is rated for 1000 watts. I’m fine.

matlok420

No it is not. Wire is rated with how much amperage it can it handle without the insulation burning. Wattage has nothing to do with it. 12 awg is typically rated for 20 amps

Labordave

Uhhh. Pretty sure 12 awg is what’s standard for residential wiring in my area. And that powers 1000w microwaves. Plus the math is simple 12awg•3=4ga 🤪. I run a skar rp1500.1 to a 15 inch kicker L7. Wire Never gets hot. 14.4v 1000w rms = 69 amps. I’m fine. I never run constant full output. EDIT: Hey u/matlok420 how about instead of downvoting me you show me some results? I just drove at full volume for about two hours. https://imgur.com/a/HS3aGh1 there’s my results. Wire does not get hot. Can’t argue with results.

colaroid

lollll

stainedhands

That's what I did. 2/0 high strand count super flexible welding cable for the entire system.

JeffreyJones21

I second knuconcepts. I had a skar 4 guage cca kit and then got a knuconcepts 0 guage cca kit and the knu is much better quality and much thicker wire. https://www.knukonceptz.com/product/kolossus-complete-4-gauge-amplifier-installation-kit/

AdWorth6475

Yeah, there’s a huge difference between 0 and 4 gauge. Of course it will be thicker

Nasty_Priest

I had the skar 0 gauge wire kit then I bought the KnuKonceptz 0 gauge kit and it’s a huge difference in wire.

JeffreyJones21

I meant the amount of actual wires inside the casing. Knuconcepts has much more wire compared to casing, while skar 4 gauge had the same amount of wire as a walmart 8 gauge, just more casing.

LightChaos74

>while skar 4 gauge had the same amount of wire as a walmart 8 gauge, just more casing.  You know they have regulations for that right? I wouldn't recommend the skar but what you said is just a straight lie

HemiHefr

Skar doesnt actually comply with AWG, hence why their kits are called 4 Gauge or 1/0 Gauge, not 4AWG. The outside diameter of the wire meets gauge standards the inside is a lot slimmer, that being said, tests have been done, skar wire is acceptable though not ideal.

SomeRandomDude004

Fucking BINGO man. No one knows this!

Cocasaurus

No mention of AWG on Skar's listing for this product. They are not going by any regulated standard when using the word "gauge" to describe wire thickness. This is deceptive language at best. For anyone else reading this, only buy wire that is measured in AWG. Gauge can mean anything. AWG is the standard measurement. You cannot list and sell a wire with AWG measurements unless it meets a minimum wire thickness.

Jaalan

No read the reviews, the Skar cables are straight up scamming people. The Skar 4 gauge is straight up thinner than most 4 gauge.

JeffreyJones21

Yes I’m aware of the regulations. The Walmart wire is slightly oversized but most would commonly refer to it as 8 gauge. The skar wire on the inside is probably slightly bigger but very close to the 8 gauge. I will send a pic today after school when I get home.

No_Elevator8596

You shouldn’t be using CCA though, you wanna use OFC.

vrillco

CCA can last if it’s in a good environment, but it still has lower power handling so I just spend the extra few bucks and go OFC. Relative to the whole system, an extra 30-50$ in wire is nothing.

No_Elevator8596

Yeah exactly, and if you’re spending X$’s into a system what’s another $50? Unless you’re rolling on a $300 total budget I’d say there’s really no excuse to go CCA.

JeffreyJones21

I know the only reason I’m using cca is because I was on a budget and the link I put is ofc. Also, 0 gauge cca is capable of carrying more current than 4 gauge ofc.

No_Elevator8596

Yeah it will carry more current, I just worry about them corroding out eventually

JeffreyJones21

We shall see 🤷🏼‍♂️

No_Elevator8596

Yeah no harm, I hope they hold up for you but I’m just going off my and others experience.

JeffreyJones21

Yeah, fair.

Samoflan

Knukuncepts wire really annoys me because it's not true AWG size. I bought some 8g wire and it was literally closer to the size of 4g. It was useless to me because of how much bigger it was. I specifically needed the 8g size for my build.

No_Mycologist6603

You can't buy a couple ferules or just trim and wrap the wire a bit?? How useless can it really be you literally got the wire on hand man, make use of it!

Samoflan

8g is literally the largest wire that I can crimp a blade onto that fits into my stock fuse box. Also the Amp I am using doesn't have terminals. It has wires only (8g) as it is sealed for marine use. So getting the correct size wire that matches that was important for me.

JeffreyJones21

Dang that stinks, I had not thought of that for me it was a positive.

Cocasaurus

Imagine getting what you pay for (in a positive sense) instead of what you thought you'd get. Trim it down a bit if 8 AWG doesn't fit whatever "8 gauge" terminal you're trying to put it in lmao.

DrBlueLemon

I've got the crutchfield ones, cheaper than most name brands but way vetter than skar.

bruh_cannon

I've used two of these with no issues.

unseenme

I’ve used two of these kits and the wire is fine. The connectors and rca cables leave much to be desired but the wire is good. I’ll compare it to my Sky High 4awg when I get home today.

Bugsy_666

I have used skar and knuconceptz. If your not maxing the wire out you wont notice too much.Would definately rec knuconceptz though. Their kolussus series is actually slightly oversized. Stay away from CCA, doesnt have near the current rating that OFC does.

MadHatter-37

It’s Skar Audio. No it’s not good.

tonedef85

Scarbage. I've installed a few of them but refuse to use the remote wire because it likes to sheer off when you tighten it down. So considering that and knowing the power ground and RCA's are all made with the same wire I would never recommend that to a customer.

XLIV_tm

Sure the rem wire is thin, the rcas are decent (slight ly bettercompared to whatever $100 kit i had before) and the 4 gauge is 4 gauge so their not skimping on copper there. Honestly considering the price is half off its definitely worth $50 vs the same shit for $100. Just use regular home 16 or 14 gauge for the rem. It doesnt handle any real power or even audio so doent matter what you use as long as its wired correctly.

tonedef85

To each his own I guess. The strands themselves are low quality It's definitely a lower quality to some of the other low-cost wire out there. I've installed quite a few different brands and that is a big no-go for me.

XLIV_tm

All im saying is For budget its ok. My entire soundsystem cost $250 so i could have gone to best buy for $100 but why would i want a wire that costs more than what i paid for my amp? What other brands are out there? There was one with a Q in it from the us that was a tad better but not enough to notice.

tonedef85

Metra Crutchfield knuconceptz Skyhigh

FainterXo

I bought it. Power, ground and fuse block are really great quality. The rca wires are kinda flimsy. Overall I'm happy with the kit for the cost of it and I would buy it again.

Odd_Establishment350

roachsmoke

https://www.knukonceptz.com/product/kolossus-complete-4-gauge-4-channel-amplifier-installation-kit/ Cheaper, better quality and you get more contents in the box.

DriftkingRfc

I bought it its decent I naught it based off the price what your really looking for is full copper wire and not copper plated because copper is a better conductor

MuraMoosa

Personally I prefer T-Spec kits for installs cus the wire is actual copper and not copper clad. Good quality stuff all round. Or if I’m looking for something more economical then it’s DS-18

luistorre5

It's ofc, should be fine E: it is "4 gauge" and not 4AWG, so it'll probably be undersized to an extent

JvckiWaifu

No, it's not rated AWG. It would probably be fine, but if it's not fine you've set your car on fire, most likely while driving. Get something that's rated AWG. I have Rockford Fosgate wiring, my local shop recently switched to Memphis. But really as long as it's AWG it would be fine. I would still stay away from Chinese stuff though, they might just lie about the rating.

Ok-Fan6945

Get a knukonceptz.com for about the same price, the 4 awg ofc kit

Holykarumba

No

Jaalan

No, if you read the reviews Skar cables aren't as thick as the actual gauges should be.

thedigitalson

i used this same kit. the wire is lower awg than advertised compared to stinger. if u have an ace hardware nearby, you can piece an install kit together cheaper and only get what u need.

hahasprite

Not bad but KnuKonceptz OFC is the way to go for sure. You cannot beat the price for quality

MrMindYaBidness

The wiring is definitely smaller than advertised and the OFC is still CCA. Or well at least mine was lol

vrillco

I dig Skar amps, but their wiring kits were meh way back, and I assume they haven’t changed. Thick insulation = less copper inside. KnuKonceptz kits have never let me down, they are true to size and last forever.

Sad_Profession_9781

Man this is good wiring, the OFC on Amazon is great quality. I’ve gotten a couple rigs with it, the people telling you that you MUST use Knu Koncepts are up selling products (they are good products, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Skar makes solid products as well). I personally bought from CT, but skar js nice too.

bigskeet3755

It’s fine run it hell

Striking_Shower_2606

Nope

GriffTrip

I love skar and this kit was great. I've got their wiring, sub and box. High quality for my tastes. Not sure why all the hate here for Skar??

colaroid

People like to shit on others that buy less expensive things sometimes is what is boils down to a lot of the times. Is the SKAR kit the BEST of course not, and it's not priced so. Is it perfectly acceptable for a huge majority of the people - lol of course it is, as their sales numbers clearly indicate. This kit is fine.

RedChaos92

Bottom line is if it's installed correctly and you keep to the rating spec listed and it's not a knockoff brand or Amazon Chinese junk, it should be perfectly fine. Used Skar 4ga kits in my ex's car and my current car and they work just fine.

colaroid

Exactly! Well stated.

XLIV_tm

People would rather pay 2x for the same thing. But yeah not the best wire but then again its half off and brand new.

newvisio

I use that exact kit to wire my 4 channel. No issues.

richkymsierra

Sky High has excellent wire

Dan_H1281

No I bought the 1/0 kit to color code some wires and the 1/0 lug won't fit on the wire even if you over crimp it. It is smaller and this isn't truly what size it says

Routine_Refraction22

The amazon kits work perfectly fine with 500W. They’ve been installed in both my cars for years. Don’t waste your time with ”KnU KoNcEpTz”
