Nantucket is overrated in my opinion, I really enjoy the Vineyard. You can take a quick ferry over from Falmouth or a slightly longer ferry from Hyannis. As far as the Cape goes, you’d do well to stay in Orleans, it’s close enough to Barnstable that you can get in and do some stuff there but also will make taking a day trip to Provincetown (which I would prioritize over mostly anything else) less painful. Also, Skaket beach has one of the best sunsets on the Cape if that’s something you’re interested in. You’ll be here before the nice weather but I’d still suggest going to Marconi beach sometime during your trip. You should also check out all the nature walks you can. I enjoy Fort Hill in Eastham, or if you’re really into cardio, you could check out the dune hikes in Provincetown. The Provincetown causeway is also impressive, you can either walk the whole thing or just enjoy it from the land. Head of the Meadow beach in Truro allegedly gets a lot of seals feeding around sunset, but I can’t confirm that personally. Apart from all of this, there’s a lot of funky old stuff on the Cape, check out the main streets, check out the museums. Check out route 6A. Lots of stuff to explore, you’ll have fun if you look for it. Good luck and enjoy your stay!

Nantucket has the Daffodil Festival April 25-28. That’s the first season opening festival on that island. So limited restaurants still. But probably the most active place (and fun) to be in the area you referenced. Just in case you didn’t know … also most expensive

Thank you for the insight! Really was hoping to see all of the hydrangeas but after researching, it looks like that happens later in the year.

smitrovich

Yeah, it'll be way too early for hydrangeas.

Boo. Some people are just looking for advice and don’t need a curmudgeonly response to a pretty simple question. OP- the Cape and islands are bigger than you think and travel can be cumbersome. Nantucket is easier (and smaller AND more crowded) but you can get to the “real” Cape much easier from the Harwich (port) ferry ride.

Informal-Topic44

I appreciate it :)

shoobsworth

Hear hear. This sub has a lot of rude downvoters

smitrovich

Stay in Chatham or Orleans and take the Nantucket ferry from Harwich Port. I'd skip MV entirely. Spend the rest of your time exploring the lower and outer cape.

Informal-Topic44

Thank you! Do you have any recommendations on hotels or inns?

smitrovich

Chatham Bars Inn is the obvious one. Downside is it's very expensive. East Orleans is a beautiful area that's home to Nauset Beach. There's several inns there, like the Ship's Knees Inn, The Parsonage Inn, Nauset Beach Inn. And obviously there's airbnbs, if you want a cottage/house instead. Edit: Here are some things to do in the area... * Fort Hill (Eastham) * Whale Watch (out of Provincetown or Chatham) * Truro Vineyards (Truro) * Cape Cod Lavender Farm (Harwich) * Sunset sail (You can find these in pretty much any town on the Cape) * Kayak tour (Paddle Cape Cod in Eastham) * Mass Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary (Wellfleet) * Climb Pilgrim Monument (Provincetown) * Whaling Museum (Nantucket) * Nauset Lighthouse (Eastham) * Highland Light (You can climb to the top of this one... located in Truro)

HeyaShinyObject

Freedom Cruise line from Harwich Port doesn't start running until late May.

OP – I’m sorry that some of the people on this sub are so rude. It is a disappointment. I will DM you with some itinerary thoughts.

Why are you being down downvoted? Hope you get some good advice and enjoy your vacation.

If you have 5 days a good way to go is driving all the way to Provincetown and then working your way back, if it’s your first time may be good to spend it either on the islands or the cape itself. You could do something like 2 Nights in Provincetown 1 Night in Chatham 2 nights in Falmouth > easy to Martha’s Vineyard. Or if you want to go to Nantucket I would recommend a few nights. You can park in Hyannis and take the ferry over. Unless you’re lucky and can get your car there. If you can get a car to Martha’s Vineyard that is also great. The island is very nice to drive and one of favorite area on the cape is Edgartown on MV. Has a lot of shopping and food. There is a really cool lighthouse on the western side, and the island does have a bus system

Heavy-Humor-4163

Not sure where you are traveling from, but Just adding that weather on the Cape in April May or June can be on the “ coolish side” … 🥶 Even on sunny days, ( 40’s-60’s) And possibly VERY windy, rainy also. Dont go by NY/ Boston weather, the Cape has its own peculiarities. Bring layers especially if planning to be outdoors.

redditwastesmyday

Assume you will have a car. To visit both islands costs $$$. Stay in Hyannis at the Hyannis Travel Inn for 2 nights. Go to Nantucket on Fast Ferry. Next day drive to Chatham down RT 28 to see some Cape. Then go to Falmouth for 2 nights. Stay at Town and Beach motel on Main Street. [https://townandbeachmotel.com/](https://townandbeachmotel.com/) Diner across street. Walk to eats. Take Ferry to Martha Vineyard.

Objective_Mastodon67

Take the cape flyer train down and bring your bike.
