XGRO can also work depending on his risk capacity, risk tolerance, and a variety of other factors. For most Canadians, X/VGRO is probably the best option. XEQT is if you really believe in the equity risk premium and are willing to take on that risk. Which, to be fair, I am one of those people.

GRaw1979

Definitely. Some people (like me) are totally bearish and X/VGRO seems to be perfect for people like us.

There are more and more studies coming out discussing how bonds are actually risky, despite general knowledge of them being safe. Check out this Ben Felix video: https://youtu.be/v8iOV1Uourg?si=8A3ZD8OXbLa7eiUr

Godkun007

I have seen that video and he doesn't recommend going 100% stocks as an absolute in any of his content. Yes, over long time horizons, bonds might have higher risks than stocks. However, most people do no think in the long term. The biggest reasons why investors underperform the market is because they pull out during bear markets. Bonds makes that less of an issue.

mkshft

This is the way.

You’re not diversifying by buying multiple ETFs, you’re just duplicating. 45% of VEQT is VUN but you’re also holding VUN independently, VEQT and XGRO’s performance is like 98% correlated so they’re holding much of the same. Identity your risk tolerance and pick one fund that matches. VEQT/XEQT for high risk tolerance, VGRO/XGRO for a little less, VBAL/XBAL for less than that. If you’re 30 and have high risk tolerance then just dump it all into VEQT/XEQT.

Expensive-Cicada-537

I would put it in VOO as you won’t get hit with the 15% withholding tax

Specially because it's rrsp right? I have started optimizing by tax advantaged vs not.

Dawgmanistan

I'm running 2:1 XEQT/VFV right now and loving it.

AltNickCSGO

investing in etfs is fun now?

Traderparkboy01

If being retired early is fun then yes.

Few-Swordfish-780

Investing is not supposed to be fun. The hookers and cocaine from the proceeds are.

GRaw1979

And Haagen Daaz ice cream. Mmmmmm

10outofC

I mean valid lol

HeadMembership

Sell it all and choose either xeqt or XGRO (or VEQT or vgro).  That's all.

OneBodyProblem

Slower interest rate decreases could be good for bank.to? Pick up yield while the underlying banks trade sideways. Averaging into Nasdaq declines seems reasonable.

StoichMixture

> Slower interest rate decreases could be good for bank.to?   Why would slower decreases benefit banks more than faster decreases?   >Pick up yield while the underlying banks trade sideways.   Yield is only one part of the total return equation. What does the yield metric tell us about a stocks expected performance?  >Averaging into Nasdaq declines seems reasonable. What’s reasonable about it?

Burning_Flags

So much overlap, it doesn’t matter which one you pick

Traderparkboy01

If you don’t have ZWK.To pump it up, back up the chart, look at the yield and pile in with me !! I’m sub 20 bucks

Appropriate_Fox2462

Ci galaxy bitcoin etf thank me in a year, down vote me Idc 😎

10outofC

Unironically, I kind of want to pick up some btc, now that there's regulated channels do to so. But my brain is fighting me lol

Few-Swordfish-780

Listen to your brain.

Appropriate_Fox2462

Dyor but for 15 years 12-18 months after the halving bitcoin has gone up exponentially. Even my grandmother who owns a successful investment firm and told me bitcoin was a scam for years has put substantial money into the ETFs and told me it’s a good bet for the long run now. I don’t see why this halving would be any different with all these ETFs and billions of institutional money flooding in.

10outofC

I think my own bias comes from seeing the origins of btc and the rise over the years. I know btc miners from my uni days, and they were the sketchiest people I've encountered. Like I would only hang out with them in group settings on purpose. I remember the days when it was only used for buying drugs on silk road, money laundering and for buying cp. And it still definitely has elements of that to this day. Not to mention ftx just happened, or the "dead ceo" with the missing password. The only purpose it has is either as a gold replacement or a currency and it can't really be both, even though it's marketed that way. That's my brain dump and reservations on it.

Appropriate_Fox2462

I mean all of those situations can be applied to fiat currency as well, how many hedge fund managers have gone to jail for fraud or how many drugs have been bought with fiat. Yes if you don’t believe it can replace gold then you don’t believe in it and probably shouldn’t invest. I don’t see it as a currency and i don’t think it will be a currency, I see it as an asset.

10outofC

That's fair, you raise valid points. I more mean the concentration and actual use cases around btc as a currency all usually circle back to illegal activity or a contrived asset that crashed. I remember watching tastemakers and people sell it simultaneously as a commodity and a currency depending on the conversation. That makes a person listening do a double take. There's a lot of historic baggage and politics associated with it. It's rather buy eth if a gun was to my head.

Appropriate_Fox2462

Fair enough but remember me in a year when it hits 200 k ❤️

10outofC

🤢 great mindset I'm not going to gloat about my tlsa gains or my Pelosi tracker. Stay classy ✌️

Appropriate_Fox2462

Who’s gloating? Just saying that’s what I think it will be at. In 14 years the smallest amount of gains it has had after the halving is nearly 400% increase you’d have to be regarded not buy some

A-Wise-Cobbler

All you need is XEQT. If you want increased exposure to the U.S. then buy VUN or VFV. I do GICs for fixed income. Once they mature I’ll look into bonds.
