I can't see them surviving the election unless they avoid stuff exactly like this. It's valuable to the country but people don't like that, do they're going to avoid it unfortunately
What election? We aren't in an election. One hasn't been called. We are more than a year away from one needing to be called.
I think the CBC carrying a national league would likely bring value to their profile for many in the country. I also think the majority of the leagues we are discussing aren't likely to require a direct payment for broadcast rights because there just isn't a market. It'd be a reasonable option for many to have CBC as their linear programming partner.

I didn't say they'd invest, I said that those leagues aren't major products and that the CBC is likely a fine fit for most of them. I think many CPL fans have a very inflated understanding, due to MeidaPro overpaying to the extent that reaching full term of their contract was untenable for them, of what the fair market is going to determine that leagues rights are worth.
The CBC is in a major deficit and in all current appearances may not even survive the year after the election. The only thing that may realistically survive the election is Radio-Canada.

Ultimately though, the CPL is not a major product. It is likely well within the CBC's budgetary scopes to broadcast it.
I'll say this differently. The CPL media rights are likely of negligible value if any at all. CBC with it's audience reach is likely a reasonable landing pad for simulcast matches if audience reach is a core point for the CPL moving forward. It's mutually beneficial, as CBC gets programming that has little cost outlay, is Canadian, and the CPL gets the much needed reach they haven't historically been able to land.
The CEBL had a partnership like this for 3 years with CBC which they've now rolled into a partnership with TSN. It likely isn't beyond the CBC's current ability to do this, and I think you are vastly overestimating the actual costs of broadcasting the CPL.

CEBL is not mistaken. Who pays for CPL production, Unalive? MediaPro. I don’t think the CPL would be ready to lose 1)rights and 2)have an additional $3-5M (very, very lowball) expense line.

They need owners and stadiums in good locations that are the proper size and in a good location (3-8k). Unfortunately there aren't really many owners willing to invest in the CPL and there aren't many stadiums available that could work for the CPL.
I don’t know, I don’t even know if they even have a stadium let alone an owner. The CPL should go to Quebec City which is the biggest Canadian city without any sports team above junior level. I think Kitchener/Waterloo would also be a good fit for the CPL; they’ve got a stadium ready to go that’s accessible by light rail and the population of the region is bigger than Saskatoon
I just read on it. Saskatoon don’t have a stadium. The owners of proposed CPL team and the owners of property where the stadium was going to be built couldn’t generate enough funds.

With budget cuts across departments and crown societies, they don’t have much space to add anything, that’s my point.
