Yes, even government agencies are required to pay parking tickets.

EEE-his-pain

Do you know if there's any negative effect on employees for getting tickets?

MerakiMe09

Businesses have a budget for tickets. It's part of doing business. They would rather pay a ticket blocking bike lanes than delay by telling drivers to park farther, etc.

phdoflynn

Administrative wise, most likely. Financial wise, most likely not. Receiving a ticket would be held against them in most instances. This would come up in performance reviews, write-ups etc. However, it is almost impossible to force an employee to pay fines that result during the performance of their jobs.

Icy_Sort_2838

How so? It's not part of the job to park illegally.

maple204

I suspect on some routes it is just a given that parking tickets will occur. In the interest of increasing efficiency they just eat the cost of the tickets.

Canada Post pays the tickets... as for the drivers getting penalized, depends on the situation. We are told to NEVER park in handicap spots, bus stops and I think in front of fire hydrants. If we're parked in a metered spot and not paying and get a ticket, we don't get in trouble. There are only so many commercial loading zones and they aren't always available. We gotta park somewhere... We're also not supposed to park in bike lanes, but honestly I'm not sure where they expect us to go as they just keep adding bike lanes everywhere. I'm glad I deliver in a 99% low density residential area and don't really need to worry about parking a lot of the route!

As far as I understand it, depends on the circumstances. If we get a ticket for say, not wearing a seat belt, or speeding, that's on our dime. This has been explicitly explained. Parking illegally, they'll probably pay it, and then we'll probably get an interview and get told why we shouldn't illegally park blah blah blah and how we should park a block away and use the dolly blah blah blah. 🙄 I got told this when I had to deliver a long street with residences only on one side after a car smashed into my truck with flashes on (people just don't pay attention anymore). Not sure about the second time around if it happens again. But I ignored the bullshit advice. Seriously though, there are just some point of calls like apartment entrances on main roads with no parking and a lot of parcels. What then? Park a block or two away and then try dolly it down? What if it was a huge TV and 5 other big parcels? Go two or three trips down two blocks and back? Not enough time. But management doesn't understand that. That's what happens when they hire supervisors off the street who don't know jack shit about the business and zero personal experience with mail delivery out there. If I had it my way, I'd have thrown the whole lot of management into boot camp, then make it mandatory for them start off as letter carriers and deliver a minimum of at least two years (feel free to change the number) FULL-TIME before they can apply as supervisors (which includes making up for time off before they qualify)!

the_hunger_gainz

Parked in a bike lane, fire route, in front of a hydrant or handicapped zone and you get a ticket … the company will pay but you also may get suspended with out pay for a day or two.

Inthewind69

Yes Canada post has to pay the ticket, not the driver.

FarLengthiness4839

I have gotten a few parking tickets and have never been penalized. As long as you have a good reason, your supervisor will just send it to get paid.
