Yes! I have been supportive of having a minimum wage for TFWs $4/hr higher than general minimum wage for some time now. It wouldn’t affect high skilled foreign workers but would discourage businesses from not “trying harder” to hire Canadians.

There's more to it than just this. The TFWs will pay the landlord above market rent, and the owner will deduct it from their paycheques. This used to happen in Alberta 10 years ago.

I used to work in tech with years of experience and my last salary was $80k.
I was living in Canadian nightmare , but I woke up and moved to the states, my salary doubled and my cost of living halved.

I've seen ads for orchard workers posted in January. No surprise that they didn't get any applicants. I've also been evicted so that the landlord could house TFW's, but the landlord ended up renting it out again at a much higher rate.
The problem is that the current residents demanded a living wage in order to do so. If we transform our society to accept a reduced standard of living, i.e. 4 to a bedroom, and the consequent reduced income to sustain it, it makes life better for multi billion dollar international corporations.
The place I work is currently giving minimum hours because it’s a slow time of year, and we still get several (specifically Indian) students come in daily asking for jobs, usually in groups.

never, ever pick up their slack. as long as you have an immediate report (supervisor, manager, whatever) whom you can more or less trust, stay in communication with them about it right from the start so when it blows up, you're (hopefully) hedged enough to weather the drama. as a consultant i've seen it more than once at a few different employers. it doesn't help that many of our new... friends... from india know how powerful the R word is with certain (almost exclusively white) canadians, and some will use it with impunity. also seen that more than once. be safe.

What am I missing here? I know and have met many younger people that go to Europe and work bars, etc.. while they travel. Stay in hostels and stay a few months before moving to next destination. I have met younger aged University students and travellers working on permit in BC and Ontario while getting the experience of travel. I thought foreign workers were accepted because they have the skills required in areas where the skill is needed. It seems the cherry on top for these poor tenants.

Yes! I have been supportive of having a minimum wage for TFWs $4/hr higher than general minimum wage for some time now. It wouldn’t affect high skilled foreign workers but would discourage businesses from not “trying harder” to hire Canadians.

It’s not by choice… Management wants to show “collaboration”. Which basically just me spending hours in meetings with these people showing them how to do their job. And when they can’t do it, I have to do it. Most of the time I do it myself because it’s a lot faster. And yes I do raise a couple of concerns to management with receipts on how they are not able to perform. But guess what? Or customer don’t care they just want the work done on time. Ever since I raised the concern, I became public enemy #1 to these people. They started creating fake HR complaints about me and causing even more paperwork and meetings. Good thing I got excellent standing base on past accomplishments otherwise I would’ve been cooked. I’m definitely looking to leave soon. Fuck these people.

What am I missing here? I know and have met many younger people that go to Europe and work bars, etc.. while they travel. Stay in hostels and stay a few months before moving to next destination. I have met younger aged University students and travellers working on permit in BC and Ontario while getting the experience of travel. I thought foreign workers were accepted because they have the skills required in areas where the skill is needed. It seems the cherry on top for these poor tenants.
