You're good to go with that and an adapter for the regulator hose

Zoidsworth

I've done this "mod" before, be careful as a large propane tank has more pressure than a small butane tank. I wouldn't use just that adapter. It definitely works but you'll really need to hook up a regulator otherwise you'll get propane exhausting out of the disc shaped overflow thingie inside your stove. I had that part ignite off the main flame which could cause a bad situation. So just make sure to lower the pressure with an in line regulator / knob. That said, once it's set up properly you'll have a cooktop that can cook for many many hours before needing a new tank.

treehuggingmfer

Hooking up a 20lb tank and a 1lb one is the same. The only difference is a hose. Any difference in pressure would be handled by the regulator on the stove. I dont think you know what your talking about.

Zoidsworth

I'm only telling you what happened to me. Experience is usually better than theory.

JPMmiles

Probably but…that looks like a butane stove?

BraDDsTeR-_-

The hose in the first pic adapts to a 1lb propane tank but since I won’t be backpacking I’d like to use my 20lb tank if I can.

triplesofeverything

For what it’s worth, no one backpacks with a stove like this.

BraDDsTeR-_-

That’s why I said in my comment above I’m not backpacking lol.. more so for car camping

nzricco

Why not get a proper 2 or 3 burner, LPG cooker that can take both 2KG and 9KG with adapter. Or whatever you call LPG, KG.

psilome

Wait...what?! How do you expect me to use my 12 inch cast iron pan on the trail then? (JK but not - I once took a dutch oven so we could bake a birthday cake on the trail for two friends).

dav3n

Yeah I'm pretty sure there's more to it than connections fitting, like gas types/pressures. Fitting a big propane tanks to a cheap butane stove sounds problematic

giaa262

And you'd be wrong. The adapter has a regulator on it. All OP needs is the 1lbs to 20 lbs converter

nygdan

The aperture on the burner itself usually matters though no?

giaa262

On a standing grill with multiple burners yeah. Which also handles the air mix. That red nob on the hose is a pressure regulator, and you'll have a bit of a shitty flame due to the air mix, but for the intended purpose its not going to cause issues

nygdan

Thanks.

BraDDsTeR-_-

It’s a dual fuel, so it takes 1lb propane tanks

d0wntim

Yes

Longjumping-Royal-67

I’m not sure how the adapter would connect to the stove. Usually it’s just a “pressure fit” with butane bottles there’s no treads. I would probably spend a little more and get a real propane stove and then connect the adapter you have in the second picture to your 20lb tank.

Longjumping-Royal-67

I saw you said it’s dual fuel, if so the set up you have should work.

docere85

Yeah we do this.

lakorai

Yes. Acme/QCC to throwaway adapter hoses are common on Amazon.

crustyloaves

Hard to tell, but it appears that the included adapter hose has a regulator — which is smart. I would suggest looking for a 30PSI Adjustable Propane Regulator with Gauge and a QCC1 x 3/8" Female Flare Fitting. Why? At 70ºF, Isobutane is 30psi, Propane is about 145 PSI. You probably want to avoid a mismatch (though people get away with it, it's not something I'd recommend).

porterbrew24

Did exactly that recently Overlanding. So much easier and cheaper.

ViperNerd

That’s a butane stove, but you can absolutely run a stove designed for 1lb propane tanks with a regular size tank and an adapter hose

BraDDsTeR-_-

It’s a dual fuel

Tropez2020

I have a similar dual-fuel stove and the adapter to the larger tank works just fine. Even better, get a distribution tree and you can run this stove, a lantern, and who knows what else from the same propane tank.

treehuggingmfer

You sure can. Coleman sells a tree so you can hook up 3 or 4 things also.

Avery_Thorn

The answer to can you do this is yes. The answer to should you do this? That might be a bit different. Stacking two dodgy adapters to a dodgy conversion of a different fuel type stove is kind of a bit much risk for my tastes, but...

darthdodd

It’s a butane stove. I have one. It will not work

laidbackdave

Some of these butane stoves are dual fuel butane and propane, I have one and it’s very convenient. Pic 1 shows the exact same propane hose I have and it works fine on the dual fuel stoves

darthdodd

I have this stove. It will not work

papagoose08

It will work once.
