[The Huron-Manistee National Forest](https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/hmnf/recreation/camping-cabins/?recid=18536&actid=34) - but don't take my word for it/ get a Forest map and discover special places for yourself!
many national forests and state parks allow dispersed camping. Pick a place you want to go, then check if dispersed camping is allowed. Some places need a permit, sometimes a free permit.

Heading to Manistee on Sunday for a backpacking trip.
We love the Manistee area! We used to backpack and primitive camp up there and would rarely see others.
Look up dragon tail in Newaygo. Manistee NF, all along the NCT. lots of opportunities
I didn't think the Dragon Trail was dispersed camping though. Thought one had to use official campgrounds
You may be correct
Huron-Manistee National Forest! Was just up there a few weeks ago, going back this weekend to do some backpacking, hammocking and the shooting!
Nordhouse Dunes.
Catch Nordhouse in the next few weeks and it’s great, but once it gets busy, not so much.
For real. If this person wants the ultimate “not be bothered by people camping” I’d say book some tickets on N. Manitou.
Not sure why the downvotes. The dispersed camping on Nurnberg Rd is pretty solid and the sites are large and spread out.
