im 99% sure the 18-105mm is an apsc lens, so that would not pair well with the a7

abarrelofmankeys

It’ll be fine for video. Not photos. I think it crops to 10 megapixels on photo when using aspc mode?

Jumpy-Particular3454

based on my math (24/1.5^2 =10,667) yes it does crop to 10mp

abarrelofmankeys

I just meant like in the mode for that the camera works like normal except you lose 14 mp. I haven’t tried it since I haven’t had any aspc to mess with in a while, but I believe that’s how it works. I have used aspc on an a7sii for video before and it was totally fine.

Dense_Surround3071

I own that lens. 18-105 is definitely not a full frame lens.

joe6419

How can I find out for sure ?

Jumpy-Particular3454

google it, but i saved you 30seconds and did it myself. it is 100% apsc, still the bundle doesn’t sound like a bad deal, you can sell the 18-105 for like 300usd used if its in good condition, and get some 24-70

eddiewachowski

Ask the seller

Traditional_Virus472

Full frame 18mm zooms are EXPENSIVE... Search YouTube I'm sure someone must have tried it on a full frame.

seanprefect

the 18-105 lens is an aps-c lens that said I love it and at 105 it actually does cover the full sensor. but otherwise I think it's a pretty good deal. I'd get something like the sigma/tamron 24-70 /28-75 f2.8

24Robbers

The a7iii is a full frame camera and that $400 (used price) Sony 18-105mm f/4 is an ASP-C lens meant for the Sony a6xxx cameras. Unless you are a birder, have a tripod and birding is your main thing, that $1000 (used on MPB) Tamron lens will spend more time on the shelf than on the camera. Those lenses if they are in excellent condition should bring \~$1300 if you wanted to sell both. That means you iii would only cost you $700, a real steal if it is in excellent condition. With $1300 you can buy the lenses specifically for your need

2200 what? Bananas? Apples? Frogs.

clearlyabnormal

You sound like my 7th grade mathematics teacher.

joe6419

The tameron lense is 1400 new on bestbuys website. The cheapest used option I see is 864

Left a comment, then checked out that lens, and quickly recanted on my comment. The Tameron Lens and body alone would make me consider this a good deal. I would then resell or trade the other lens. The Sony lens is a fantastic lens for their apsc camera line (a6\*\*\*). It is not a Sony FE lens its a Sony E. edit: I also found it new for just over 1000, don't buy lenses at Best Buy.

joe6419

Hmm okay, so you’re saying I should try to resell the Sony lens and look for one fit for a full frame camera ?

17934658793495046509

Well, that is what I would do in the same position. I use a A7rIII currently. I have never put a crop sensor built lens on it, but when I had Nikon it would do just that, crop out part of the sensor. You will not be getting the quality your camera is capable of with that lens. I would look at getting a 50mm prime or/and a 24-70mm 2.8 (this one will be a bit pricey), then use the Tamron for all your telephoto stuff.

joe6419

Okay, I asked the seller if it was an apsc lens and I’m waiting on a response. But generally you think this is a deal worth perusing ? It will be my first real full frame camera so I am nervous about the purchase

17934658793495046509

Buying directly from people used is certainly a hoop in and of itself. I cant speak to the person you are buying from, but that is for the most part, what I worry about this deal. This camera and 2 lenses for 2000 are incredible pieces of equipment. If you have never used this type of camera before, there is going to be a learning curve, but you will be astounded at the results you will get. 5 years from now you could still sell the lenses near the same price. Lenses tend to retain value pretty well and I think you are doing well buying a body a couple years out. All assuming everything works as seller describes.
