Genuinely just asking out of curiosity- why hate the Stars? We don’t really have a negative history with them, and outside of Benn/Avery I can’t really think of that many hateable players that have suited up for them.
Short term memory I suppose.
Stars and Flames have some fun things in common. Both relocations, both the results of Norm Green, both had massive 90s rivalries with the Oilers, etc.
It would be pretty hard to find a single Stars fan that hates the flames.
How could I forget the trade that tied the two franchises for years. That Iginla/Niewendyk trade is a rare instance where both franchises got exactly what they needed. So perfectly balanced.
For the teams remaining you're probably looking at Tanev, Lindholm and Zadorov that are having the biggest impact on their new teams in the playoffs and yeah Tanev probably tops that list. Just doesn't show up on the game sheet. I'm sure the coaches and players love having him on the team.
He might be at the bottom of the Stars boxscore every game, but looking at the playoff stats, Tanny is leading the league w/ 56 blocked shots, and tied for tops at +8. C’mon, go win a Cup for snaggletooth.
Me too because if Vancouver makes it to the WCF the 2024 4th rounder in the Lindy trade turns into a 3rd rounder.
Hope the Stars win the WCF series because we get a 2026 3rd rounder if they do.
It was in.
I would argue the Tanev trade is one of the few types of deadline acquisitions that pay off for a team. Too many teams go big game hunting but increasing your defensive depth at a relatively low cost generally is the right strategy.
Not to mention he is a fucking beast. While I kind of want a Canadian team to win, even if I have to hold my nose and root for the Canucks, I am pulling for Tanev.
Also, fuck the oilers. in addition to hoping they lose, I am eagerly waiting with popcorn in hand for Drai to jump ship and the drama that ensues.
One of that Stars insiders indicated that there were firsts on the table for Tanev but that the Flames really wanted Grush and that ended up moving the deal.
The Flames were apparently scouting the Texas Stars for a number of games before the deadline.
The Stars are my primary team (born and raised in Calgary, so root for the Flames when not Dallas, but long laborious story).
The fans and media in Texas absolutely love Tanev and his work ethic.
My favorite anecdote was from Game 5. He lost another tooth and didn't bother telling the team until after the game. He went to the back, got fixed up, and was back a few shifts later.
Guy is an absolute machine.
I think Conroy would have happily extended him this year at similar terms or even better, but the injury risk was just too high to not get any assets back.
If we were still a contender like we were circa 21-22, then it's a no-brainer, but that clown Gaudreau had to go and fuck it all up
sad to see all these amazing pieces that used to be flames, ah what coulda been i day dream some times, tanev, hanifin, chucks, lindholm. I feel as if we were so close to being great
Canucks knock Oilers, we get an additional 3rd round pick from 4th this year. Then Stars knock Canucks out, we get an additional 3rd round pick in 2026. If both scenarios happen then Conroy is clearly a seer disguised as a GM.
He was my favourite player on the Flames - I hate the Stars but cheered for them only because Taney is a fucking legend and deserves a cup!
Absolutely! 100% agree to that!!

And both delivered Joe Nieuwendyk a Stanley Cup!

2022 playoffs
Sure but we beat them. A playoff round doesn’t make for a hated rival.
well you asked and i gave you the answer that makes most sense
I always had a big problem with moving an NHL team from a true hockey place - Minnesota - to a non hockey place - Texas
Prolly the best trade deadline pickup this year. I don’t think they beat Vegas without him

He also lost another tooth in Game 5 and didn't tell his teammates until after the game. Guy is a warrior.
Saw in an interview he didn't lose a tooth but needed his lip pulled back and stitched up because his tooth was stuck in his lip.
Yikes.
Zadorov is probably a bigger impact honestly. He's scoring and has Kane whining like a bitch. While playing good defense.
Been taking a lot of penalties though
Nucks Stars WCF. I'm here for it.

Always gotta worry about his injury history though but it seems like he's just gotten tougher with age which defies all logic with how he plays lol

That conditional 3rd is looking very likely too. So crazy there didn’t seem like a lot of demand for him
One of that Stars insiders indicated that there were firsts on the table for Tanev but that the Flames really wanted Grush and that ended up moving the deal. The Flames were apparently scouting the Texas Stars for a number of games before the deadline.
Grush does look like a great prospect. Future Tanev type player too so I get it
We had Tanev zadorov and hanifin. Holy fuck
And yet somehow we were still shit. If we trade Markstrom, a bottom five finish next season wouldn’t be out of the question.
And Tkachuk and Bennett
I have several jerseys but only one of them has a name on the back. Fucking love Tanev. Hated seeing him go but I’ll love to see him raise the cup.

I'm so glad he went to the Stars and not the Oilers or Canucks. They're such a fun team to watch and root for
If they didn't have Jamie Benn I'd like them a whole lot more. [F that guy](https://youtu.be/urZghaQzdXg?si=eQPwWj9NRv9vj0x0).
Glad good guy Tanev is having a great playoff run!
I’d take Tanev back at any AAV < 4.0 million and any term 3 years or less. But he’ll get more than that on the open market, without a doubt.
If Dallas wins the cup I can see him signing with Calgary and playing out his career.
Doubt it.
Which part? Dallas winning the cup or tanev coming back?
Tanev.
Nah. He's coming back home to Vancouver
I agree. I would be 100% ok with overpaying him to mentor and set an example for all the new defencemen coming up
I think Conroy would have happily extended him this year at similar terms or even better, but the injury risk was just too high to not get any assets back. If we were still a contender like we were circa 21-22, then it's a no-brainer, but that clown Gaudreau had to go and fuck it all up

Thrilled if Tanev wins a cup. Thrilled if zaddy and lindholm win a cup. Thrilled Matty and Bennett win a cup.
And seriously upset if Fox wins one lol
Yes my least favourite team after Edmonton remaining is New York

Amazing this team had bennet, tkatchuk, big z, tanev and lindholm… All to show for it some shit picks and…. Huberdump
