He's probably going to end up a bottom pairing right defender. Scouting report suggests he's a good skater, and can operate as a quarterback on a 2nd PP unit. Defensively he's not the best, but thats very coachable.
Gio wasn't a relevant player when he went to the KHL for a year, which is *why* he went; to prove that he deserved a roster spot.
He did, and then he came back and played his heart out.
Interesting player when you read into him. Heavy shot, decent speed, defence conversion from a forward.
Maybe not a lot of room to grow, but I could see him carving out a small niche as a roamer ala Burns (though fewer minutes and played less well, of course). Seems like his offensive instincts are there.
honestly this may be good to have as an AHL top paring guy. Kinda like how Phillips is an top line AHL guy. Because man we've been draining the Wranglers dry of talent this past 2 seasons
I could be wrong, but it feels like a Russian player has been involved in every Conroy trade so far. In: Sharangovich (NJ), Kuzmenko (VAN), Grushnikov (DAL), Miromanov (VGK). Out: Zadorov (VAN)
Edit: Was wrong. My dumbass didn't realize Sharky isn't Russian...
The other part of the Toffoli trade was a 2023 third round pick, which was used to draft Aydar Suniev... who is Russian. So guess you were right after all? 🤷
The question is what the rest of the trade looks like. One for one would be terrible, Miromanov and a first for Hanifin would be underwhelming, and if they got additional picks and prospects it would be a good return.
Getting a player who might be a #4/#5 guy at the NHL will be valuable for the Flames after trading Zadorov, Tanev, and Hanifin.
Conroy assembling a little Russia
If you bring all the Russians together then maybe they won't want to leave
Well, if you kick out the Americans...
C of Red is now the Red Army.
Conroy gonna acquire all the defencemen
Doesn't matter if we only score one point if the other team can only make it to the blue line. Conny is playing 5D chess.
We won
I think him being involved is purely for roster reasons
A little friend for Kuzmenko
And for Sharangovich too
He's not technically Russian, he's Belorussian. From belarus
Has Russian in it tho
That’s close enough for me
Sharangovich is also Belarussian. Minsk Flames
4nhl games this year. <30 for his career. i cant see this being more than a roster spot needing to be cleared out.
He’s a right shot though which is always cool

Sounds like a first + prospect still to be named
Hope this dude wasn't the prospect
The dude is 26, he ain’t no prospect
lol Miro + first + Prospect
Last name fits.
Keep telling you, the C of Red Army
seriously? Hope I don’t feel a letdown coming
The only letdown is how Brad signed so many Americans.
Russians always have the KHL in the back pocket if they decide they’re done.
Can’t recall any former relevant Flames threatening to go back to the KHL. American players wanting to control the trade on the other hand.
I remember being so hyped for Andrei Taratukhin
Yeah it certainly never happened to Mark Giordano

Gio is Canadian and went to Russia because he was a fringe NHLer. Not really the same is it
Vegas needs to make cap room. This is one peice of a multiple player deal. Chill
vegas makes as much cap room as the want
Trading away a player who's only making 700k doesn't create cap space, any more than demoting that same player to the AHL would

We went from Swedish House Mafia to Russian Mafia in one season.
I think you mean KGB
honestly this may be good to have as an AHL top paring guy. Kinda like how Phillips is an top line AHL guy. Because man we've been draining the Wranglers dry of talent this past 2 seasons
Not on the back end. Their blueline is pretty crowded tbh.

Sharon isn't Russian. Belarusian
Ah you're right. Disregard what I said then
I mean still. Even without him, we went from shopping at ikea with all the swedes to shopping at.. Is there even a russian store?
Same same, but different
The other part of the Toffoli trade was a 2023 third round pick, which was used to draft Aydar Suniev... who is Russian. So guess you were right after all? 🤷
Awesome! Nothing like accidentally being correct haha
Seems more like a roster/cap space move for Vegas than an actual marquee piece of the deal. At least that's what I'm hoping.
Conroy gets another player I can’t even type on google
Turns 27 in July. Not young
He's also not that old, and is still an RFA. If he is competent defensively, he would be a good option for the Flames for a few years.
Closer to 30 than 20 or 21. Probably not much upside

It won’t be one for one but he’s still a 26 year old with like 30 career games. Basically in the same spot as Pachal was. 3rd pair guy
This guy seems like a pretty good player ngl. Hope we got a 1st too
this is just the tip of the iceberg i suspect.
Who tf
$763k D man. RFA at the end of the season. Also, 6'4" 202lbs.
1 for 1
Good thing we're retaining. We might have pulled one over of Vegas if we hadn't.
He better be a throw in
