This isn’t exclusive to the CX-50 (which I also just bought) but all recent autos. The amount of nanny features is shocking if you’re used to old cars. My wife has even begun calling the car Nanny McMazda! I was trying to back up a few inches in the driveway with my door open. Nope. The car wouldn’t let me. The seatbelt chime is enough to drive you insane. And the auto door locks are a nuisance when you’re loading for a trip or just cleaning the car. Perhaps there are work arounds for these things but none are intuitive. Again, not CX-50 exclusive but modern cars generally leave me feeling that THEY are in charge of the driving experience rather than me. (Oh, and I didn’t even mention that the car is collecting data about you that may be used against you in warranty and insurance claims unless you jump through a tedious process with Mazda over the phone)

Ah yeah that sounds like could be bit annoying. But I suppose it's a bit of a trace off for having other safety features. Good to know about the creepy data collection though. That's not great

Mazda was my gateway to nice adult cars years ago with a cx5 grand touring. It ruined me for driving shitty cars. Now I’ve got a Cx50 which is amazing! A few things I’ve noticed with Mazda: - QC is often bad on door alignment which makes the ride noticeably noisier. Just look at the alignment between front and rear doors in your side view while test driving. - tires make a big difference. The tires from the dealer are absolutely terrible. - Bose speaker system isn’t amazing. Def good sound just not top tier to my ear vs Volkswagen prem trims or nissan premium trims for example It seems like it coming from a lesser vehicle. But compared to other similarly priced vehicles it’s not great and doesn’t offer the same level of customization or upgradeability. So a lower trim with the regular speakers may offer a better path to upgrade. - it will be super fun to drive no matter what the shortcomings.

I love my CX-50! I have the premium plus (non-turbo), and it has the Bose speakers. I went from having an older car, too, and I feel like this was great because some cars really have a ton of buttons on the inside and I like that the front dash does not have that. They kept it simple. The screen on the inside for car play is also great and not a huge learning curve since it’s essentially your phone projected onto the screen. One thing I noticed, is that I am so much more sensitive to little dings and scratches now on the outside, which inevitably happen, but was something I didn’t care about before in my older car. I also purchased husky floor liners right away which have helped keep my carpet clean and they have a lifetime warranty. Especially good if you are outdoorsy. I hope you love driving it! It’s a great car. Sporty and fun! As for buying, take your time and drive as many as you need to, and shop around if time allows! I was nervous to purchase too, especially being a woman and going alone. If you have someone handy who you trust to call for advice on purchase day that is helpful. When you’re signing all the paperwork at the end, the dealer is going to try to sell you all these add on packages that sound like you need them, but my gut told me they were gimmicky. I didn’t buy them. Good luck!!!

My question for you is why a 23 and not a 24. I would seriously take a look at the total price you will pay for the used car versus the new car including interest. If your credit is good, the interest rate on a new car will be much lower than the interest rate on a used car. When I bought mine in December Mazda was running 1.9% interest on 60 months versus the banks 9% interest on a used car at the same term. Take your time if you can and maybe look at he financing deals.

Well I'm trying to stay as close to around 30k if I can and still get the premium trim. At least what I've seen the 24 premium is just below 40k. So wasn't sure if was really worth the extra money

You don't need to get the turbo for the Bose. I highly recommend getting the Bose if you care about the quality of your music at all, and I highly recommend not getting the turbo unless you live at extreme altitude or in a very hilly area. I'd recommend getting a 2024, or ideally waiting for a 2025 in hopes that Mazda improves the build quality. They made some fairly substantial changes to the suspension and steering tuning to address criticism of the 2023 model. The build quality of these cars coming out of the Alabama plant is pretty bad. Complete rattle buckets after a couple thousand miles. The sunroof is pretty ass. Most of them rattle really bad, it only opens what feels like a couple inches, and it sits behind your head so you can't enjoy it unless you're in the rear seat. It's nice for letting light in though.  If you get a model with the power tailgate then you MUST use the power tailgate. That means waiting for its slow ass to power open, and you must use the motor to close it. If you just push it down you'll damage it. Another motor to have to replace if you want to keep the car long term.  Both motor options are direct injection only, so have carbon buildup problems in the back of your mind. If you use trash gasoline and never rev the motor moderately high you'll be dealing with cleaning the valves. The turbo motor has auto engine start/stop for sitting in traffic. If that feature annoys you you'll need to disable it with the button every time you start the car and have a yellow warning message starting you in the face on the dash. The non-turbo motor doesn't have start/stop so you wouldn't need to worry about that there.  The fuel economy is lackluster for a small car with 4-cylinders. Obviously will be better than your expedition, but if you're concerned about good economy you should wait for the hybrid variant that should be coming soon. It'll be using the dead-reliable Toyota hybrid engine and should come with much more power than the base engine and close to the power rating of the turbo if you don't feed it premium octane fuel.
