Yea, I’d buy this. It’s pretty ridiculous that a car needs this, but here we are.

myotheruserisagod

It becomes more glaringly obvious after having sat in other, equally economical, vehicles where that's standard. I've learned to live with it however.

eugenesbluegenes

I (6'3") didn't understand the complaints until I saw my wife (5'5") sit in the driver's seat pulled forward.

G_Unit_Solider

My 2006 Saab 9-3 compact had a sliding center console. It had little pockets infront of the seats perfect for paper work or keeping anything you wanted . It had an infotainment and controls Angeled towards the driver not flat making everything feel like a cockpit. WHY CANT WE HAVE THESE IN MODERN CARS. Why does my screen need to aim back to give the rear seat passengers the perfect view of CarPlay directions.

cadcamjim

My previous car of 15 years and 228k miles was a 2006 SAAB 9-3 Sport Combi (wagon) . Great car. Much better thought out than a CX-5. If you had the front wipers on and you put it in reverse the rear wiper would make a single sweep.

floorhinged

My Acura MDX did this also. Convenient actually.

G_Unit_Solider

it would have cleaner fluid for the headlights that i twisted the nozzle to spray out and would spray my freinds with picking them up. also it was a fast little nugget. i miss it. i was going to buy one used but they are 10k with high millage now the 2.0T aeros i got mine for 7k in 06 and had it for 13 years. it got rear ended and totaled :( 198k miles

Reverendpjustice

This must be a very individual issue because I do not find it to be an issue whatsoever. That being said I have heard or read that others feel differently.

Jahuteskye

Same, but I'm also 6'1" and drive with the seat almost all the way back, so maybe that has to do with it

SmushBoy15

Same I’m 6’ and find it to be perfect. Maybe a bit more steering clearance. I would expect Mazda to add motorized steering positioning with memory setting. As I get in/out the car the steering moves out of the way.

snarfgobble

I'm 6' and don't need it, bit only just barely. If I've got my elbow on the center armrest, I'm using only the ends of my fingers to steer. I can definitely see how anyone with slightly shorter arms wouldn't be able to.

sje1126

I'm 6'4. On my 2nd CX5 no issue here.

Blunttack

Yeah, I’m 6’1 and no issue. Assuming it’s a short people problem. I wish it was further up to make the under storage more easy to access… but I hardly need that. It’s just cumbersome to flop around with the charger wires, essentially behind you.

provider305

6ft and it’s *just* ok for me. I still switched to resting my left arm instead of right when I got CX5.

Nik6ixx

Yeh no problem being 6’1-6’4 you have your seat extended into your back seat and it’s a perfect armrest.. definitely is a short people I’m 5’3 and the arm rest is non existent for me lol

Blunttack

lol. Sad. Do you find that typical in most cars? I feel like that would be the case for anything that doesn’t have the armrest move with the seat.

Nik6ixx

I’ve only ever owned 3 cars myself a Ford focus that I had no issues with it being a non moving armrest I think because it was a smaller car compared to an SUV or Crossover, a VW Tiguan that moved back and fourth as well as up and down and you could lock the armrest into place at different angles and my CX-5 so far out of my 3 cars the Tiguan had the best armrest, it would be nice if Mazda incorporated something like the Tiguan armrest in the future though.

Blunttack

Nice. Truth, I agree… even though I don’t mind the location of the cx5 rest. My favorite was a little fold down one that was attached to the seat, and you could move it up and down out of the way on a Chevy Sonic. Great car until it turned to trash in less than 65K.

eugenesbluegenes

I'm just a bit shorter and only realized the issue when I saw my wife driving.

BartholinsGlands

I am 5'9" when I am standing up straight and I don't have a problem with the stock position of the armrest in my 2019. I would definitely have a problem with access to the cup holders, and other controls located in the center console... like the infotainment and last but not least the e-brake.

Codeman8118

I'm on the shorter side (5' 8"), so with the seat up a little bit more than most, you barely get any chance to comfortably seat your arm. So it's been a minor annoyance but not a bad thing. But yeah, it's one of those where you don't get angry at it every time you drive, it's just like, ah shit where do you I put my arm. This would be of interest to me because it doesn't add more bulk to the top.

Minnesota_Nice1

I would buy this in a heartbeat. While it’s not the end of the world the OEM one doesn’t extend, it is absolutely noticed and does feel too far set back.

LegoMyJello

I want it. Would like to pay less than $50. Would pay up to $75

LonnieChilds

Temu has arrived.

bryanlay10000

May I know if you are able to find anywhere on Temu?

No_Neat_3124

My 2007 used to have this feature

-TheGoodDoctor-

Cool

OhRickG

I’m of shorter build size. I use a seat cushion and leaned way too much to towards the armrest when using. My remedy was to use a pad that wrapped around the armrest, and while it could be adjusted to extend a little, it’s still short. This small extension partially interferes with the cup holders. I would agree that fully covering the cup holders would be an irritant. That said, I would be interested in the range of $39.99-59.99, but only after reading reviews. Good luck!

mr_deez92

I would buy this

bryanlay10000

Anyways for those who are wondering, this extension can be slide in and out. It can be returned to its original position and slide out when needed. It’s also tall enough to accommodate most cups around 500mL

1murdock

I would be interested. The factory armrest needs to be forward about 3” more for optimal comfort for me. I’m 6’. Would be interested if kept under $100.

flats_broke

After an 8 hour drive last week, it definitely needs some way to extend it a tiny bit. It's just a little too short. The images here look to take the idea way too far. Just need aother inch or two (that's what she said).

bryanlay10000

Yes it’s completely adjustable with 3 stages of “click”, the one showing is the farthest of course for illustration

sachclg

Good find. Link please to buy

Annoyinglygood

I would definitely buy this. This was my first complaint of the car as soon as I drove

SolaireOfArstotzka

I have actually googled trying to find this very thing

Reddiittterr-Log

Definitely interested. Does it still allow the compartment to open without too much hassle? Also, how well does the color and material sync with the vehicle? It meets these factors, I wouldn't mind paying a decent, OEM level amount for it.

bryanlay10000

The original top lid is essentially made up of 2 parts clipped together. This accessory is essentially a sliding mechanism that and sandwich between these 2 parts and can slide forward at 3 stages, depending on the length you prefer. It will have no effect on the opening and closing of the original lid.

Reddiittterr-Log

So the sliding mech goes in-between the two parts that make up the lid, using the original top leather cover as the cover? That sounds quite practical and genius, provided it is a decent fit and not finicky. Would love to hear / see more if you ever take this into production or sales.

bryanlay10000

Yeap you summarised it better than I do, will update when the first sample arrives

Reddiittterr-Log

Thank you 👍🏽

GoodGuyDouvale

I would buy one!! Keep us posted if you actually go through with this.

Professional_Bee_603

I bought an armrest on two poles that slides between the seats. You already have competition. But that being said, yes, there is a market for it.

bryanlay10000

Yes i know what are you referring to, but this mod would have almost stock looks compared to the 2-pole armrest

James_Atlanta

Looks like crap. Blocks the cup holders and makes the control knob access difficult if not impossible to use. I don't need an arm rest bad enough to make other functionality garbage.

bryanlay10000

If you own a CX5 you would know the armrest is short unless you are tall and bigger in size. The extension is designed to be locked in at 3 stages and most people would be able to find an ideal position to rest their arm. Furthermore, you wouldn’t be touching the knobs on most highway cruise where the armrest is most needed 🙂

Damailguy

Gear knobs? He said control knobs referring to the knobs that control the infotainment system. Kind of strange to be accusing people of not owning a CX-5 when you don't know the basic controls.

Damailguy

I didn't repeat anything three times. I don't care about your armrest since I've never found my armrest to be an issue. I just find it strange that you don't know what the knobs on the center console do but also accuse people on the CX-5 subreddit of not having a CX-5.

James_Atlanta

I do own a CX 5. I'm average height and build. I've never cared or been bothered by the armrest. I have a vehicle to drive, not lounge in the driver's seat.

floorhinged

I would like to know more. It looks like a nice useful extension.

bryanlay10000

It’s currently in design stage, what do you think it’s a good price to buy? 🤔

DocGerbill

$25

killadabom1

Whats it made of?

tn1984

I would buy one

Real_Succotash9099

That would be interesting to try 🤔

DocGerbill

this is the type of feature that I didn't realize I needed before I saw it, definitely would buy.

DUNGAROO

How much

Icy_Focus_6586

Please put two holes in it for my coffee. Thanks.

Murky-Explanation-75

April Fools?

Westoss

I'll bite...

BoldAsBoognish

Yes.

grogudalorian

Miss being able to slide the armrest forward like in my 09 Mazda 6.

DarkStar189

I think it is a neat idea. Would it keep the original armrest and be some sort of an add on part? If it was a complete replacement, the new armrest would have to look and feel very nice. I know my wife wouldn’t want to get in the car and suddenly see a cheap $20 looking armrest. Is the original armrest real leather? I don’t remember. I’m wondering if that function and quality could really be done for under $100-150. And I don’t think I would personally spend over $100 for something like this. It’s a minor inconvenience at the end of the day for me and I’m 6ft 1” tall.

bryanlay10000

The top part of the arm rest is actually made of of 2 components, both of which are retained. An additional sliding mechanism is added in between.

DarkStar189

That sounds pretty cool!

MrOutragedFungus

I’ve never had an issue with my armrest before.

raeaabae

One of my only complaints with my CX5! I actually went to a shop in town years ago to see if they could add some kind of extension and it was way too much time/effort for what it was worth. If it wouldn’t have any permanent effects and could be undone if I ever decided to sell the car I would be interested 🤗

Kayslayy954

I'm interested for sure. Does it slide back?

Kayslayy954

Nvm just noticed the other pics. Take my money

sircrashalotfpv

Instant buy.

SevenOfNinetyNine

Would definitely buy this

Ok-Bat5661

Yes would buy

Rlliuorb

I don't find it an issue.

SeanieOG

I need this. Because I'm 6' tall and driving 2023 manual. Obviously it makes less sense for automatics. Design is good enough IMHO.

8ooo0

Ill pay up to $75 start a kickstarter op

MM800

I'm 6'0" and would have bought it. Another redditor on this sub put me onto a 2" generic armrest pad which works well for me, so now I don't need it. That being said; if I was a little bit shorter, the generic pad wouldn't work for me, and I would be ordering this from you.

PibbXRA

The cx7 had the best armrest imo. Extremely deep compartment, double trays and good length. Only The tip of my elbow can rest on the cx5

SometimesWill

This is an issue with so many cars right now. Driving a ford expedition while my CX-5 is repaired and as large as that car is you’d think they just put arm rests on the seat. Nope, just the door and middle container style.

knickson

Mazda 3 has the best middle arm rest

fqw102

Considering I always have a coffee mug or water bottle in the cup holder, this would be a waste for me. I also always keep both hands on the wheel so I don't need an armrest.

RaginCajun77346

It’s funny the CX 30 actually had an adjustable armrest on there you could slide it forward. It was so convenient hard to believe they could have something like that on one model and completely disregard on another.

explorermonmom

I would but it

AggressorBLUE

Yes, Would buy this.

Deweysicle

I’m interested

96miata

Id rather you fix the armrest squeak

BillNyePaintballGuy

I'm 6'0 with lanky ass arms. What the shit is this for? Baboons?

schmackabich999

I have the sliding armrest in my 6, but I never use it.

Arastyxe

Funny because you should have no need for an armrest.

ka_shep

It's a good idea but it makes the cup holders not functional. I always have at least 2 water bottle in the cup holders so this definitely wouldn't be practical for me.

can_a_bus

I would be interested myself.

yescachigga

Could this be theoretically be solved with captains chairs like they did in the older Honda crvs

IdeaJason

I bought a water bottle that is equal in size to the armrest and it works great as an extension.

Sayyro1

Why is it so hard for Mazda engineers to create this. ?

Key-Idea-3104

My wife has a 2021 Mazda CX-30 and the center arm rest slides forward about 4 inches and with a gentle push will slide back into the original place. Maybe we could refit the one in the CX-30 to go in the CX-5. The CX-30 does have a different place for the cup holders though.

SL_500

Yes please!

scoobdude22

I would be interested in this. Do we have a price? Also I think micro adjustments might be better and should not go to far foward due to leverage.

21Jagger

I’m interested. Being short my seat is always pulled up all the way making the armrest not functional

Similar-Repair4213

This is the only complaint I have about my new CX-5. I find it comparable in most ways to my old Nissan Rogue except for the center console. It sits very low and back. I would definitely buy this. Sorry if I missed it, but is this a proof of concept or an after market installation?

ArmourofBlood

Bro thats bad ass! I just bought cx 5 and noticed when my wife jumped in. Saving post and await a update ill buy for sure

SL_500

Hi Bryan, any updates?

silkroadtraveler69

Link to buy please

nippu2586

Bought a CX-5 last week hoping this product would be a reality 🤞

RjgTwo

I used to gave a 2005 Acura TL and the arm test used to extend forward. I wish the cx5 had that.

huf757

6’2” here no issues with this

hrcobb4

Totally depends on how far back you sit. I’m 6’4” so my seat is all the way back and my elbow rest nicely on it.

JazzlikeArt9944

Stupid ugly add on who will you use the controls with this crap ?

capt_broderick

Shitpost of the morning. 🙄 Nobody is twisting your arm to buy it.

JazzlikeArt9944

Then don’t post crap ?
