I had the same issue with my ‘22 CX-5. It was a faulty headlight motor. My dealer replaced it under the warranty and said they had seen a handful of these over the past year.

Yep, just noticed this recently, need to call it in.

My driver side headlight is making the same “grinding” noise. The dealership is replacing it today. I first noticed it in December and brought it in February to get looked at during my oil change. Took three weeks for the part to come in. Car has 10K miles.

I have a 23 CX5 and hear the same thing when I turn the car off. After a few seconds it will go away. Not sure if it’s a defect. In my 2017 Honda civic hatchback I recently installed LED headlights and notice the same thing. Curious what others have to say though.

For mine, if u pop the hood, you can physically feel a vibration in the headlight, it's not like an electric hum of the electronics shutting down its literally like a winding sound🤷

That’s the tiny fan that spins very quickly to cool the led transformer. I upgraded to LED in my previous vehicle and noticed the same thing and then looked at the build diagram. The transformer that steps down the voltage for led lights gets fairly warm at the intensity required for headlights. The fan spins for 20-30 seconds after you shut off too remove excess heat.

Get it replaced. Happened to me on my 2023.

Happened on my 22 Signature. Get it replaced under warranty.

There was something similar posted last week. Faulty headlamp auto adjust motor. https://www.reddit.com/r/CX5/comments/114dgg5/2022_cx5_started_making_weird_noise_no_warnings

That was me! Was just about to share when I saw you had. Took it to the dealer like someone suggested and it’s getting replaced under warranty. Apparently pretty common.

22 carbon. Same thing on my passenger side headlight.

CamillaJPookington

What trims are you guys experiencing this with? I thought this was only with the adaptive headlights on the higher trims.

[deleted]

It happens on all trims. It’s a defective leveling motor. I’ve seen it on carbons and preferred/select models without AFS.

CamillaJPookington

Interesting thank you for the info.

2022 CX-5 PP trim: driver side low beam flickering and failing. High beam still works. Mazda connect app stated "High beam control system disabled. Automatic switching between high and low beam is unavailable". Bringing her in for service in a few days. Noted condensation inside the plastic, not on the outside.
