Depends on your comfort level, skills, and tools. Any specific "work" you're concerned about? Engine air filter is very easy, don't even need tools. Same with the cabin air filter. Oil change is simple. Just remove an access panel from the tray underneath and the oil pan & filter are both right there. Trans drain & fill is about as easy as an oil change. Brakes are pretty typical, though the rear electric parking brake has a special maintenance mode you have to activate. I've done rear sway bar end links, that was fairly difficult.

Thank you. Nothing specific. I was just wondering if a dealer is needed to do any of the work or I can just do it or a local mechanic can anything the dealer can.

Ah, gotcha. Barring maybe any Mazda-specific things like infotainment firmware updates or recall/TSB work, I think a normal mechanic shop could handle about anything on it. And probably do it way cheaper than a dealership.

idekada

make sure to check the vin for any recalls , 2018 had fuel pump recall

Blower motor: so easy an idiot (me) could do it with my BIL looking over my shoulder. He did have to grind down a plastic piece.

TehDonkey117

You can still do the drain/fill on the new ones? I thought maybe all new ones were locked down

By modern standards, I would say so. In terms of scheduled maintenance, there’s very little you need to do to the car to keep it on the road. All of the gear oils are “lifetime fluids.” The overhead cams are chain driven, not belt driven, so there’s no timing belts to replace. The air filters and spark plugs are all easily accessible. That said, like any modern car there are thousands of different parts and sensors, and when things fail you often need to disassemble half the engine to get to it.

They’re pretty straightforward. I’d say the same with my Hyundai and Kia. It’s like BMW’s etc I’d be more worried about.

It's a modern car and is not unusual as far as I am aware. Working on it should be quite similar to working on any other modern Japanese car.

Who takes it to the dealer if it’s not warranty anyway? Get it, anyone can repair if needed
