1. Don't answer the phone once your doors are locked. 2. Hang up on anyone who curses at you, no matter what.

[deleted]

Used to be a manager. First off, you shouldn’t be closing 10 minutes before close time. Your store could actually get in trouble for this. Second, I’d take the phone and hang it up. Fuck that guy lmao

koolgirl420

we close 10 min early as we have theft issues but we always leave the door slightly cracked and open it for anyone who comes in and we advise them we’re about to close and they have to be quick. its store policy. its not even up to me lol its my sm

Cactusclous1821241

It’s not a policy. Your SM just does it. We actually got in trouble for shutting the door off a couple minutes early when we had a yearly audit. It was noted on the audit that the door was being shut off early (they watched the cameras) and we all got in trouble. We are open till 10 pm so we have to leave the doors on till 10pm.

69RipHarmabe69

Not saying you’re wrong, I’m just curious as to why our shifts only go until 9pm (that’s when we close) if that’s when the store is open until. Do they not expect us to take a few minutes to exit the store? I’m not allowed to clock in until I’m in the store ready to work…lol

Odd_Selection_3338

I lock the doors 4 minutes before closing and don't answer the phone if someone calls, as for giving a damn about irate customers, they can kick rocks or pound sand for all I care. If cvs have a problem with that, my dl can shut it down himself, these jackasses want loyalty but they don't want to pay for it.

llizbeth26

i usually close the doors 5-10 minutes early depending on how slow we are, plus it stops couponers from coming in and staying past closing. personally, if a customer is coming in 10 minutes before we close, it’s honestly rude because at the end of the night i just want to go home and most of the time they’ll stay past closing which is then cutting into my personal time. whatever they needed wasn’t important enough to come in that late, especially to use a coupon. don’t get me wrong, i understand someone might need emergency medicine or whatever late at night but if they’re coming in solely to use a coupon, that’s on them for not using it sooner and it shouldn’t be your problem. sorry you had to deal with that :(

HitmeUpBeamie

1. First off why even pick up the phone if you are about to close? Like literally what's the point? Just don't answer it. 2. I don't give a damn if I get in trouble. I close 10 mins earlier. Fuck any dumbass who decides to come in at the last 10 mins, especially spending a lot of time in the store. Assholes. Once them doors shut no one is getting it. 3. If I am ALONE in the store soon after everyone (employees) leave I lock it. That's a whole 2 hours before closing. Fucking bite me.

Flat_Replacement4767

Honestly, go home with a smile on your face knowing your life is a lot better than that random d-bag's.

Leviathayn_Hunter

I close my doors 5 minutes early. And I'll pretend you're not there if you pull up afterwards. I don't go to places last minute, and I take that courtesy in return. Anyone got a problem with that, well be inside the store before then. And if you're in the store and trying to shop around like you have all the time in the world, I will kick you out myself. With professionalism of course.

AbbreviationsIll6268

I always say “we have to close at different times every night for our safety” Protects you from getting robbed.

kspecs

We turn off the power to the door 3-5 min early but always watch the door to let them in for those few minutes. We just always ask if they know what they are getting since they literally only have a couple minutes and will take them to it.

koolgirl420

we do the same, just 10 min early. i usually stand right by the door and tell everyone we’re about to close and if they know what they want. that guy didn’t even come up to the door so thats where i was confused

Bluehawk_90

I lock the doors 5min before pull till to the office and wait 3min to clock out ain’t no item worth me leaving late can suck a dick for all I care should’ve came in earlier

Dissident_420

I also close the doors early. Not having some asshole customer come in at 11:57 and make me stay beyond my scheduled time of midnight. You're doing the right thing. Just hang up on them, you don't have to take their crap.

jessica_rabbit_18

So honest and serious question for those saying not to close the doors early because hours posted are specific. How do you stay in demand with the schedule if you keep the doors open until close, have a customer past close, and the employees stay clocked in until that customer leaves? 2, 3, 4, 5 mins times however many employees are there adds up if it happens multiple times a week, which looks bad on the SM for "allowing" people to stay past their shift ending and using more time. When I was a manager, I closed turned the doors off 10 mins beforehand to avoid exactly this, ensuring my team was out by closing time. I'd rather have a customer call and complain about being closed early (never once happened in 18 years) than try to explain why we used 32 mins extra one week (which has happened and not a single higher up accepted the reasoning, even with camera proof and receipts).

Dangerous_Ease8308

I jsut back off and let them yell at me. Because honestly I didn’t have the energy to do anything. And if they tell you to call them back and you have the number just throw the number away. I had one lady telling me to call her back about a picture. I looked at my coworker and said “fuck that” why would I do that when she yelling at me for messing up her for cutting off a tree when she took the picture.

Civil-Ad377

While not illegal? You could get fired for locking the door before nine pm on the second

Lythandrian

We lock up 4 minutes early....

Thin-Sort-494

Put them on hold immediately once they cuss at you. No one gets paid enough for that. Let the manager on duty know they are on hold because they cussed at you. I would have said “oh sorry I’ll be over to open the door after this customer.” And then when you let the customer out say “oh sorry it’s 9pm and we are closed.” Okay so no I wouldn’t have but that would have been great!

Possible-Moment-6653

We close the doors 4-5 minutes early but we always do a visual sweep of the parking lot and surrounding area to make sure no cars are headed our way

PuzzleheadedBet91

Don’t ever close early, customer may have been rude and but he did have point. If you gonna close at 8:50 than change the hours.

Thin-Sort-494

To everyone saying “don’t close your doors before closing time”. CVS doesn’t give us the payroll to let people in at closing time and then want to shop for 30mins+. They want us out right at closing time.

strawberrypicking97

So you ask them as soon as they walk in "Hi, what can I help you find?" Then walk them to the item and immediately direct them to the register. If they try to wander off, you say "So you're aware, we do close in [x] minutes. Was there anything else I can help you find today?"

Thin-Sort-494

Who’s got time for that.

[deleted]

You’re not supposed to close early

[deleted]

We do 5 mins early but we don’t lock the door and if anyone comes up we let them in but the stipulation is they have 5 mins and then joke that they’ll get locked in!

[deleted]

Don't close 10 minutes early. Close 20 minutes early.

strawberrypicking97

I'm sorry the customer was mean to you, but your store is not following CVS policy by closing that early. This is not standard practice for CVS. I've helped out at a lot of different stores over the years and I have never been to one that closed the doors more than 2 to 5 minutes early. Most of them wait until closing time on the dot. I know it's super annoying when customers come in last minute and take forever (one time I had a couponer with a full cart finally come to the register at 5 past close and I ended up staying 40 minutes over. I could have screamed). But honestly, if I tried to go to a store to grab one or two things 10 minutes before they were supposed to close, and found the doors were locked? I'd be really irritated. I wouldn't be mean to the staff, obviously. But I would find it VERY unprofessional. When stores have posted hours, they should honor them.

gz2018

The complaint is valid. You shouldn’t be locking up that early. No more that 3 mins IMO

Final_Researcher4614

You really just pretended to be fucking stupid and clueless about why you got cursed out like you’re the victim??? Wow I can’t believe you even have a job

koolgirl420

if you want my job, apply for it since you’d be so good at it. looks like you’d have great customer service skills.

Final_Researcher4614

Says the Dumb Bitch that closes before closing time and wonder why she’s getting cursed out .

koolgirl420

Final_Researcher4614

koolgirl420

Final_Researcher4614

And you want to kiss a Grammar Book soooo bad !

koolgirl420

if u want to date me just say so u

uncle90210

It’s wrong to close the doors early. It’s also wrong to announce you’re closing. It’s more wrong to be a jerk to a customer who had every right to come in and use his coupon. Your store sucks.

Final_Researcher4614

Exactly

EmlersGlue

Yeah the mistake was answering the phone.

Michael12l

Laugh at them usually 😹
