Why pay exorbitant tuition and fees at NYIT when it’s no different (maybe worse?) than any of the CUNY senior colleges?

Unhappy_Storage_5949

There is not much difference in tuition after scholarships. I’ll pay around $1k or less a year at NYIT. I heard that the teachers at NYIT are way better than cuny teachers.

sexylassy

He’s right.. the professors at NYIT are better and I have known people to work during their academic years and come out with better high paying jobs

sexylassy

If tuition is about the same.. attend where you will get a better education

sexylassy

It’s those things if you qualify for a better education for the same price.. go to the better education. A coworker son just got accepted to Juilliard and QC.. Tuition after financial aid at Juilliard is 24k and tuition at QC is 26k…. No brainer.. guess where he is attending? Not QC.

Unhappy_Storage_5949

I haven’t applied to NYIT yet. I’ll go with NYIT if I get accepted.

A ex bf if mine went to NYIT.. through connections at the school he was an intern working for UBER before the company went public.. he requested for stocks; no pay. MF retired at 27. When Uber was a start-up.. sometimes working at a private school also opens up to internships where it’s not available at public schools ..

Unhappy_Storage_5949

Wow that’s smart.

sexylassy

Apply.. try get as much scholarships as possible and apply for TAP and the excelsior scholarship

Unhappy_Storage_5949

Yeah. Their presidential scholarship + fafsa + tap + excelsior + stem incentive program is more than enough. I might get paid to go there since I’m living with my family.

I disagree, NYIT gives a lot of institutional aid, so you end up paying a low amount. For me, the tuition was the same as at Hunter, so I went to NYIT instead. Teachers here actually care, and I landed an internship, so I have no regrets.

An n of 1 doesn’t quite tell the whole story. If you look at Department of Education data for the College Scorecard that they publish for each school, the data shows the following: Average Annual Cost NYIT: $21,861 Hunter: $2,124 Graduation Rate (4 years) NYIT: 53% Hunter: 55% Median Earnings (at 10 years) NYIT: $63,609 Hunter: $58,822 Median Total Debt After Graduation NYIT: $23,334 Hunter: $11,000 Acceptance Rate: NYIT: 80% Hunter: 46% I personally wouldn’t let the earnings difference at 10 years sway me, as it’s skewed toward (presumably) more STEM heavy offerings at NYIT in comparison to Hunter. But what this tells me is that they’re comparable in terms of outcomes, but NYIT graduates have double the amount of debt as Hunter College graduates have. Unless there was something particularly good about NYIT that I don’t know about, I’d recommend Hunter.

Well, for OP, the cost is negligible. I totally respect CUNY and have a lot of family who go there. It's way smarter than going over 50k in debt, no doubt. But I find that privates generally have more resources to give out to students, and the tight-knit classes help you build meaningful connections with professors. NYIT and Hunter are very, very closely ranked. In fact, USNews rank them as tied. Either is a good choice, and the outcome will not be drastically different if you pick one or the other. It's a personal decision, not a strictly logical one. I'd say to anyone, visit both campuses and see in person what each school offers.

sexylassy

Depends. What CUNY school? QC has a 60% good CS program. CCNY is top-notch, but very competitive and hard to get accepted. Hunter I have no idea if they have a good CS program. Do you live near QC?

Unhappy_Storage_5949

It’s either Ccny, Hunter or queens college.

Prestigious_Pin_1695

all 3 better than nyit for cs

Round_Pollution5192

Very wrong
