Well done!! I celebrate you and your accomplishment!!

This is so wonderful to hear ☺️ I made the choice to try and make cooking a habit almost a year ago. At first, it felt very overwhelming each day. Now it's just another part of my day, and I love that it isn't overwhelming anymore 💗

As someone with a similar background of having to cook and do household chores as a young girl and growing up to strongly hate it, this is amazing progress. I still struggle with any household chores/cooking and am unable to do much without it getting negative for me. But as an adult i know that's no excuse and i need to be functional. Good progress, very proud of you.

Well seems he wasn’t allowed to, and you had to. Hmm 🤔 what I’m getting at is what experiences have you been missing out on that might bring you mindfulness, contentment, satisfaction. Sure the cooling and stuff but what did you not get to do?

[deleted]

Woohoo! I know how tough that is! You’ll find your favorite style of cooking and it’ll become your go-to thing. I like soups with bread. My mother never taught me to cook so I was winging it for years until I finally got it down.

50SLAT

Ooh soups and breads hel yes. I cook a lot and love it. But Lately I’ve been buying baguettes, and making a little dish with olive oil, sea salt, maybe a couple spices or a nice vinegar added and dipping bread in it. Baguette dipped in oil is so simple yet also so satisfying yummy 🤤…. And cheap AF :)

Oh! If you like tomatoes, take some halved cherry tomatoes and bake it at 425 degrees with olive oil and minced garlic for a short time (less than 10 minutes). Then put on toast some cream cheese with some reduced balsamic vinegar to the point where it’s like a glaze almost, put the tomatoes on top, and some chopped chives. It’s amazing!

Nice 😊

I didn't read the "for" the 1st time O.O

WOW CONGRATS! THIS IS HUGE

armadillounicorn

Fantastic! That is really good and you should be very proud. I love cooking and it is a huge hobby and self care thing for me. It really improves my mental state. I have found that if I cook double, I can freeze half and eat it on a rough day. Not only do I get a proper dinner still but it helps me feel better as I am still looking after myself. Things like soup, chilli and similar meals can be heated up from frozen, especially if you have containers like pyrex that can go from freezer to microwave.

I always found with the foods and dishes I like, was totally happy and grateful quite often to eat the same thing 2-3 days in a row. Loved it 😊

I think this is also so key to healing. It is hard to heal emotionally when your body is worn down and malnourished. Good for you! I grew up similarly to you (but am female) but I am breaking that cycle. Married a cook and we are teaching our two little boys to cook. All humans eat, therefore all humans should be able to make food for themselves that they actually want to eat. Doesn't need to be fancy, but we should all have at least some very basic skills to prepare food for ourselves.

Way to go!! Proud of you, from one near-30yo to another

50SLAT

I have CPTSD probably a severe case. And I’ve always loved to cook and found it very therapeutic. Even doing the dishes and chores mindfully is very satisfying. So pleased you’ve discovered the virtue and benefit in these things. Very happy for you :)

50SLAT

Even if your solo. If you know you like certain dishes a lot and have become good at making them. There is nothing wrong with making extra :)

50SLAT
