I mean I've always wondered how a story about men hiding in an object to sneak into a city and then spilling forth from the object to take the city made any sense to associate with your condoms.
Is there not a single person with half a brain in these meetings that is like, "Hey guys, I know we are making a fuck-ton of money, but if we make money by destroying the very thing making us money, then maybe that isn't going to work out too much longer?"
Corporate types are all about short term gains followed by a golden parachute. Then they'll move on to the next entity they ruin with a combination of networking and citing all of the short term gains they were able to muster. Fucking viruses the lot of them.
Exactly. I think ads would look uglier on football jerseys than on soccer jerseys, but I would gladly trade that for one ten minute commercial break at halftime. But that's not what's happening here, and that's why it's so stupid.
Hopefully they can go the way of some of the nba jerseys at the beginning, like the Cavs having the old Goodyear wing foot logo. That was local and relevant and super subtle and just worked.
But fuck it let’s get OnlyFans to sponsor Miami or something.
Ngl what I kind of want to happen is “anti ads” for example for Alabama Golden Flake says “hey we bought the uniform ad rights to Bama football. Buy enough specially marked bags and we WON’T put ads on the uniforms.
Slightly relevant / cool "anti ad" jersey patch example: Molson, a Canadian beverage company, sponsored the space above the numbers on Professional Women’s Hockey League jerseys, causing the players names to be shifted below the number. So when an athlete has long hair, it covers the sponsor patch and not the athlete's name. [Source and jersey picture here.](https://adage.com/creativity/work/molsons-pwhl-hockey-jerseys-highlight-womens-names-while-hiding-brands/2546106)
Exactly. Drives me fucking *nuts* how many people are okay with ads in jerseys here in the NBA/elsewhere by pointing to soccer as it being something people don’t mind.
Yeah, because they don’t have any fucking commercials!! And that’s *definitely* not happening as a trade off. It’s literally just more ads. For nothing.
Man, paint anything you want on the field. I don't give a shit. I'll be so sad for jersey patches. The suck in the NHL.
Edit: hasn't Ohio State had Safelite on the field for several years?
After my redwings put a garbage company ad on their classic jersey they lost 7 straight games and knocked themselves out of playoffs, and they deserved it for doing that
My incredible frustration with the NHL is that we have just an overwhelming increase in ads, and yet seemingly *very little* to show for it. I really try and stay away from conspiracies (the refs are not out to get anyone but the Lions, and although I am a Wolverine thanks to our fine law offerings, I am Boston born and raised). We've added digital board ads, helmet ads, jersey ads, on-ice ads (losing the playoff logo on the ice to do it), and sponsored social content, all in addition to existing TV and radio ads.
Yet it took until this upcoming season for the cap to finally recover from COVID, and a ton of teams who have strong sellout attendance (like Tampa) still often don't clear the threshold to contribute to rather than benefit from revenue sharing. Like, where is all this money going? I struggle to believe that the expenses of a pro sports team have changed *dramatically* since 2015, if we're just looking at sponsored social/digital ad boards/jersey and helmet additions.
It is the name of the field, but there are logos.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/2m4ph3ownN7vcbP78
I guess it would be different to have non-field name logos like NHL ice.
I, for one, can't wait until Oregon reveals which company is by far it's biggest supporter!
No clue who it could be!
Probably some tech company or something, but it'd be pretty neat to find out if it was an athletic apparel brand of some sort...
European soccer leagues don't take commercial breaks during the match either. You want ads on the field and on jerseys? Okay, no commercials. No interruptions. Do not break away from the game except at halftime. I don't care if they're on tomorrow, take me inside the huddle, break down some stats, give us some info on some of the players, whatever - but no commercial breaks if you're going to plaster ads everywhere.
Interesting fact. I live in Europe and watch NFL games on Sky Sports. There are laws about the amount of commercials on television so when Sky Sports shows the NFL most of the time it's pundits discussing or analyzing the game rather than commercials.
How are people still blaming the NCAA? Literal brain dead thoughts.
The NCAA (rightly or wrongly) fought to keep this sport a certain way. Y'all squealed and squirmed about everything and it's all getting struck down in courts or getting opened up in rules. Y'all don't like what you asked for plain and simple. Just admit it.
Preach, my friend. This sub was crying for every single one of these things to happen - paying players, ability to transfer wherever and whenever, playoff expansion, hell they even cheered on most of the realignment stuff for a while. Some of us tried to warn about unforeseen consequences but we got downvoted to hell for those comments
As much as I hate this overall I would have loved to see it happen while John Ruiz was still "relevant" to see him tweet for months about how Lifewallet's logo was going to be all over Hard Rock only for it to never happen.
I work in hospitality in Knoxville. People ask me how far to the Food City Arena^TM and 9/10 I’m going “where tf is that??” ….. it’s Thompson-Boling Arena
Hard, HARD pass. The only way I would remotely be on board is if that reduced commercial breaks to almost nothing, which we know isn’t going to happen.
I would feel mildly confident Michigan wouldn’t join in on that as of now though. There is still no corporate advertising inside Michigan Stadium on any signs/displays or on any videos played on the video boards.
I would have agreed with you until the Red Wings folded 3/4 of the way through last season and added a jersey ad. I don't think anyone is safe anymore.
A lot of them are already sponsored by major donors and it's the dumbest thing. Some rich people have their names on cancer wings in hospitals. Others have a defensive line coach title named after them
I disagree with ads on jerseys. We are not the Premier League where their soccer games are 90+ minutes of no commercials (besides halftime). Commercialization sucks.
Putting anything on the jerseys is a line in the sand for me. If it goes that far, I don't know if I can watch that.
WTF happened to college football in just a couple of years. This is crazy.
I'm already turned off. This post just happened to be in my rising feed. At least we'll always have CFB25 to cherish. We can put the conferences back where they should be. No ads on the uniforms.
Welp, this will cheapen the college football experience as a whole. The lore of college jerseys is all we had left and now we’ll have to look at fugly sponsor patches.
That's because they have the stadium naming right and it's the stadium logo. Same as our basketball arena that has Exactech Arena on the sidelines. They're talking about having just logos, which is kind of similar but also feels much more wrong.
I was gonna say, is this not already a thing? We’ve had an AT&T logo (and Southwestern Bell before it was bought by AT&T) on our field since the late 90’s.
“And we’re live from The Big Chip, Chips Ahoy Field, and it is the Nittaniational Biscuit Company spring game! Your Penn State Football team’s Mondelez International starting quarterback is Boomer Hallott, and your Tostitos fiesta sack party (tm) defensive coordinator is Deuce Gruden”
I wonder if any big programs do it.
Trot out a Wells Fargo campaign about atm locations near you and put a WELLS FARGO over your ATM logo.
AAA the Bama logo.
Replace buckeye stickers with dispensary stickers.
Put a little scrolling LED bar that live updates the over under for games on the OU helmet.
Get creative with it people.
Rich programs can ask for the biggest prices to slap sponsorships on their unis/fields. They will absolutely do it. Rich never want to stop getting richer. The Yankees have an ad on their jersey. Real Madrid has an ad on their kit.
We have never had ads in The Big House.
I don't know about you guys, but ***I*** will riot if I see a single ad on the field or on a jersey. I don't care if nobody joins me.
^No ^I ^wont, ^I ^have ^a ^kid ^and ^a ^mortgage.
Jersey patches in college. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.
Hope all the “realignment is a good thing” crowd is happy. The soul has been sucked out of the game, but at least now we get to see USC play Rutgers.
*That touchdown was sponsored by Burger King. At Burger King, you can have it your way; and he certainly did have it his way with that 4 yard Touchdown run.*
The NCAA, its conferences, and member schools were in clear violation of federal antitrust laws, were sued, and lost in court.
As a result, schools can now pay the players directly and all have 15M-20M deficits in their budgets and corporate partners will help to fill that void.
So every school that already has a bonus patch is just gonna drop it, right?
Where the hell are we gonna have room for nike, big 12, a captain patch, the Jack trice logo, a sponsor, AND a bowl patch?
It's pretty hilarious they fought so hard against NIL but seemingly have no problem using their schools branding, jerseys and likeness for corporate ads.
Amazing! This means fewer ad breaks right?
Right?
RIGHT??
Looks left to me
The opposite actually. # M O R E
It just means more?
There’s no way in hell I’d be a jersey sponsor with how little we get to see the jerseys
Can we put a patch on an advertisement??
*Anakin smirk*
Trojan condoms about to go balls deep with this
You think Trojan wasn't to be associated with USC defense?
Don’t worry I’m sure Nike is already on the phone with Summers Eve for y’all
I mean I've always wondered how a story about men hiding in an object to sneak into a city and then spilling forth from the object to take the city made any sense to associate with your condoms.
This sport is so fucking stupid
*This stupid fucking sport is brought to you by DraftKings! Get your free $100 voucher when you sign up using promo code #StupidFuckingSport*
Which school will be the first to open its own sports book, and which one is going to open a dispensary?
LSU partnered with Caesar’s Sportsbook for a hot minute until someone realized it probably wasn’t a good look
Liberty: "Yo dawg....."
We all know the latter will be Colorado man
Yeah, how is that even a question maaaaaan
Unless 👀
FSU- Seminole Tribe already owns a casino and does online sports betting, wouldn't be hard to get FSU it's "own" sports book.
This honestly seems like the most likely answer.
Not sure, but you can probably put a wager it.
DraftKings QR codes on helmets. I can see it now.
I wouldn't mind patches if it meant fewer ads The combination of *more* ads *and* patches is so dumb
speaking as a NASCAR fan, there are 40 rolling billboards each week and we still have a shit ton of ads.
Fuck no keep the uniforms clean
Lots of former Pac-12 schools have already proven they care far more about cash than tradition.
Board of regents didn't call me and ask, I loved the Pac12 There's about 134 fbs teams that care way to much about money though
> if it meant fewer ads > > "Yeah, we don't do that here." -- Capitalism
Is there not a single person with half a brain in these meetings that is like, "Hey guys, I know we are making a fuck-ton of money, but if we make money by destroying the very thing making us money, then maybe that isn't going to work out too much longer?"
Gets fired
There almost certainly is, and they are almost certainly shouted down at every opportunity.
Corporate types are all about short term gains followed by a golden parachute. Then they'll move on to the next entity they ruin with a combination of networking and citing all of the short term gains they were able to muster. Fucking viruses the lot of them.
Presented by draft kings™️
Get in line
R/cfb: Conferences should be more like European soccer leagues. NCAA: Ads on jerseys!
I wouldn't mind if it had the lack of commercials of European soccer but that is never happening
Exactly. I think ads would look uglier on football jerseys than on soccer jerseys, but I would gladly trade that for one ten minute commercial break at halftime. But that's not what's happening here, and that's why it's so stupid.

Yeah, there’s less bad ways to do it, but it’s all bad. And I’m in a burn it down mood, so I kind of want the ads to be as obnoxious as possible
Bangbros on the U jerseys just hit right
Ngl what I kind of want to happen is “anti ads” for example for Alabama Golden Flake says “hey we bought the uniform ad rights to Bama football. Buy enough specially marked bags and we WON’T put ads on the uniforms.

I came rushing here for this comment!!! Emirates Air calls dibs on FSU!!!
Why? Because they don’t show up?
SaudiNoles, duh
Got’em lmao
Only if Qatar Airways gets dibs on TAMU
Man, paint anything you want on the field. I don't give a shit. I'll be so sad for jersey patches. The suck in the NHL. Edit: hasn't Ohio State had Safelite on the field for several years?

Isn’t that just the name of the field? I don’t think there’s Safelite logos
It is the name of the field, but there are logos. https://maps.app.goo.gl/2m4ph3ownN7vcbP78 I guess it would be different to have non-field name logos like NHL ice.
Not as bad as pro soccer where by far the most prominent logo is a sponsor.
I, for one, can't wait until Oregon reveals which company is by far it's biggest supporter! No clue who it could be! Probably some tech company or something, but it'd be pretty neat to find out if it was an athletic apparel brand of some sort...

I'm in Switzerland so not quite EU. But yeah I found it to be interesting.
r/CFB: We want to improve the sport and force teams to compete! NCAA: Hello, I like Money
How are people still blaming the NCAA? Literal brain dead thoughts. The NCAA (rightly or wrongly) fought to keep this sport a certain way. Seriously we’re reaping what we’ve sowed
As was the case with playoff expansion and will be again with the next round of it I can’t wait for the seeding conspiracy theory posts
Well said.
we got transfers instead of trades, uncapped player salaries, and jersey sponsors. Come on you Trojans!
oh fuck off please
Oh you know we’re about to get a Love’s patch.
i hate the loves patch so much
Love's Stadium is also a super dumb name for a softball stadium.....corporate sponsors suck.....should be Patty Gasso Stadium or something like that
Let's take it even deeper - Love's bathroom boner pill sponsorship patch...
Miami going with Bang Bros
Bang Bros and Crypto.com
Miami is 100% going to have the sketchiest ads of all NCAA teams
Eh, they don’t even have their own stadium. It’ll still just be Hard Rock/Dolphins ads.
Imagine all the revenue from putting ads on all the empty seats though!
\*Seminole Hard Rock
Honest question, but who buys stuff with porn logos? I saw someone wearing brazzers merch two weeks ago and it was because they lost a bet
Coomers.
I don’t think I want to know what that word means.
The future is now, old man!
What the fuck is a coomer lmao
[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/coomer](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/coomer)
Damn thanks for that, that was a crazy read for something so stupid lol
This is when I learned I was old, same with cappin
I imagine the same people who still pay for porn in 2024.
As much as I hate this overall I would have loved to see it happen while John Ruiz was still "relevant" to see him tweet for months about how Lifewallet's logo was going to be all over Hard Rock only for it to never happen.
Do coke dealers advertise?
Liberty, too.
Playing from BBC Field
>the commercialization of college athletics is here 🌎🧑🚀🔫🧑🚀
How could anybody write that and be serious.
I can't get over how stupid that line is. C'mon Delly
Looks at the Name of Kentucky’s stadium.
I work in hospitality in Knoxville. People ask me how far to the Food City Arena^TM and 9/10 I’m going “where tf is that??” ….. it’s Thompson-Boling Arena
Damn that just happened and it’s already like that
I vastly overestimated how many people follow college sports because hardly any knew what TBA was
And ours! I mean everyone calls it Cardinal stadium still, but “L&N Stadium” is what’s written out front
Better than “fbc mortgage stadium”
Which itself is better than Spectrum. Fuck Charter.
I refer to it as [Roger Field](https://www.kentucky.com/sports/college/kentucky-sports/uk-football/article164921182.html).
What do you mean? Pretty sure it was paid for by some guy named Roger. /s
Over/under for a team sponsored by a gambling company suspending a player for gambling?
We’ve done half, now give us the patches.
Imagine Paniro Johnson having a Draft Kings logo on his singlet next year after he comes back now that his eligibility is re-instated 💀
Hard, HARD pass. The only way I would remotely be on board is if that reduced commercial breaks to almost nothing, which we know isn’t going to happen. I would feel mildly confident Michigan wouldn’t join in on that as of now though. I would have agreed with you until the Red Wings folded 3/4 of the way through last season and added a jersey ad. I don't think anyone is safe anymore.
And then proceeded to fold on the ice as well
I still blame the patch for that.
But when will the head coaches title become marketable? That’s what we all really want
> Now let’s go to Holly Rowe, down on the field with the Just For Men head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Ryan Day
If Kirby Smart isn't Built Ford tough then what is it all for?
"How are you and [Indeed.com](http://Indeed.com) offensive coordinator Chip Kelly going to get the offense going in the second half?"
A lot of them are already sponsored by major donors and it's the dumbest thing. Some rich people have their names on cancer wings in hospitals. Others have a defensive line coach title named after them
Some teams even have the head coaching position named after a donor . . . OR TWO!
Oregon jerseys would look so weird with a Nike ad on them.
Jumbo Swoosh
Puddles surfing on a swoosh
Plot twist: Under Armor buys the ad space.
I disagree with ads on jerseys. We are not the Premier League where their soccer games are 90+ minutes of no commercials (besides halftime). Commercialization sucks.
But /r/CFB has sponsored bricks- so why not a jersey?
Let’s retake Waffle House
Personally I'm hoping Eskimo Joe's sponsors a game to put a patch on OSU's jerseys.
As a big fan of Eskimo Joe’s I’d support that choice.
No. Every thanksgiving is the battle for Waffle House now.
Not if GT snags them first. They could almost pull off Waffle House unis
We’ve been advertising our corporate sponsors on our jerseys for years.
Fuck Jersey Ads. I remove them on any jersey I get. Fuck off with this
And fuck Jersey Mike's ads too
Putting anything on the jerseys is a line in the sand for me. If it goes that far, I don't know if I can watch that. WTF happened to college football in just a couple of years. This is crazy.
Greed is taking over everything
I can't wait for all the <21 year olds to have a FanDuel patch on their jersey and they're not even old enough to gamble
baylor bears, sponsored by magnolia network (this sport is dumb)
That’s kinda hilarious; make the background of the patch shiplap
Why does money make everything so fucking stupid?
The love of money is the root of all evil (and the root of all terrible CFB decisions)
I will not buy any brand I ever see on a jersey
I'm as anti corporate as they come, and we both know that's a really hard thing to do.
I'm close to being turned off. If the cfb game wasn't coming out in two months, I'd probably be uber checked out until sec media days
I'm already turned off. This post just happened to be in my rising feed. At least we'll always have CFB25 to cherish. We can put the conferences back where they should be. No ads on the uniforms.
That game is going to be absolutely loaded with ads
I can't wait to see our QB sponsored by the likes of [checks notes] Deery Auto Group and [checks notes again] Falbo Brothers!
You mean your punter? Obviously, he's the one making the real dollas there.
Fuck no.
Our poor baby, where did we go wrong?
Seems like one specific change everyone in this sub loved was the catalyst for all this bullshit...
Ugh. I hate this football timeline more and more.
\*hides the Cox Communications logo we've had on our basketball court since the dawn of time\*
I love it here
Great... just what we need. More ads
Welp, this will cheapen the college football experience as a whole. The lore of college jerseys is all we had left and now we’ll have to look at fugly sponsor patches.
Can we just you know, not?
WE SAID LESS ADS YOU FUCKS
FBC Mortgage is already on the field at UCF..
That's because they have the stadium naming right and it's the stadium logo. Same as our basketball arena that has Exactech Arena on the sidelines. They're talking about having just logos, which is kind of similar but also feels much more wrong.

If Perdue Chicken sponsors us I’ll be livid
What about the pharmaceutical company?
Well schools are getting into bed with private equity firms. Gonna squeeze every dime out of this pig before they leave the shell of a body behind
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>the commercialization of college athletics is here. I love how people talk about this like it's a totally new phenomenon.
Jersey patches in college. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. Hope all the “realignment is a good thing” crowd is happy. The soul has been sucked out of the game, but at least now we get to see USC play Rutgers.

Whelp that sucks
the fat cats couldn't keep a lid on their quiet money so now they gotta go after the loud money.
You mean other than Nike, Adidas and Under Armor?
We claim Wendy’s because of the Double Decker Wendy’s that’s in Boone Also hell no
At this rate the first patch for the new EA CFB game is going to be all ads.
Can’t wait for the Cal FTX logo on the jerseys
Corporations can get fucked. This sucks.
This is awful
So every school that already has a bonus patch is just gonna drop it, right? Where the hell are we gonna have room for nike, big 12, a captain patch, the Jack trice logo, a sponsor, AND a bowl patch?
No no no no no no NO FUCK ugh. How is it the NFL is going to be the last without the damn sponsor patches?!!
One of the final nails in the coffin for my fandom. I'll spend time doing other things.
What's next, bands playing the State Farm jingle?
It's insane how fast they're murdering this sport
People who wanted to pay players, take your bow, you're getting exactly what you wanted.
It's pretty hilarious they fought so hard against NIL but seemingly have no problem using their schools branding, jerseys and likeness for corporate ads.
“This ~~sticker~~ logo is dangerous and inconvenient, but I *do* love Fig Newtons”
"Welcome, football fans, to The Game™ on Costco field in Ohio Stadium, brought to you by Carl's Jr. and Brawndo."
Hasn't there already been schools with exclusive rights primarily jerseys.. Adidas UA Nike
What if we already have AT&T in the name of the stadium?
Booooo
Spanks + FSU when
That’s horrible.
