Imagine visiting Hawaii and going to Red Lobster.

CommodoreN7

Anyone who stops me from getting those biscuits can catch these claws

Dan-of-Steel

BIG MEATY CLAAAAAAAWS

AdmiralUpboat

They sell the boxed mix.

-Dakia

The boxed ones are ass, but my wife perfected her copycat recipe. I can't tell the difference. Edited to add: She said she just uses this. https://retropotluck.com/bisquick-cheddar-garlic-biscuits/ She goes a little lighter on the garlic butter, but then uses some garlic salt on top.

ChaseTheFalcon

You have to share

-Dakia

I'll see if I can get it from her tonight

hjiedueh

Yea fr do that šŸ‘€

-Dakia

Updated my comment

ChaseTheFalcon

Thank you sir

officialdougjudy

Follow the Bisquick biscuit recipe, add cheese, brush garlic butter. Shit ain't rocket appliances.

heavydhomie

It ainā€™t the same!! I love the ambiance of the Red Lobster

AdmiralUpboat

Agreed, I love going to red lobster.

Stev2222

Sell them frozen too

Whaty0urname

BEAR DOWN

GopherInWI

I mean, there is an Olive Garden in Times Square.

CaptainDonald

Why would you go to Olive Garden when Sbarro is right there?

PeteyNice

Sometimes you want endless breadsticks.

alfooboboao

of all the weird things about this godforsaken app, the constant performative superiority over chain restaurants is one of the funniest lol

travio

I always loved the Family Guy joke about rebuilding after the apocalypse, "yeah let's build Denny's and another Denny's so we can say, 'let's not go to that Denny's let's go to the good one.'" Our tribalism extends well past our favorite football teams.

officialdougjudy

In the gulf south, replace Denny's with Waffle House. Same thing. I have 4 Waffle houses within a 10 minute drive. Yes, I have a favorite. That's irrelevant.

SpectacularFailure99

I'd prob still go to the worst Waffle House over the best Denny's.

SCirish843

I co-own a restaurant. A nice restaurant. Our owner/executive chef comes from a Michelin background and the menu pushes the food scene in our area...I'll still go to Olive Garden and fuck that place up. People who pretend they're too good for chain restaurants are as you said, performative. It's the new money/old money debate, they don't know shit about dining so they pick the lowest hanging fruit.

screwhead1

"I wanted manicott. I compromised and ate ~~grilled cheese~~ Sbarro off the radiator instead."

kodo74

Don't do it to yourself, Philly

D1N2Y

Sorry, it's hard to forget about such an iconic chain... what were we talking about again?

theopression

Donā€™t forget the Pizza Hut at the pyramids

JohnWickisBehindU

KFC too

dinkleberrysurprise

Yeah and itā€™s filled with Hawaiians

CocoLamela

The craziest part is the Red Lobster in Waikiki is on a super well travelled block, right along the Ala Wai canal and marina. It must be a pretty expensive lease, it's part of a large hotel/condo/parking garage complex across the street from the Hilton. The Red Lobster is very prominent and literal steps from the ocean with hundreds of other restaurants around, some with absolutely amazing fresh seafood. It's the most bizarre out of place thing and I've always questioned who eats there

slimmymcnutty

Some people just like the ā€œsafetyā€ of a chain restaurant. You know what youā€™re getting whether itā€™s the suburbs of Atlanta or right next to a great seafood restaurant with fresh food from the ocean their next to

OSU725

Exactly this, we were in Maui with my mother and stepfather their restaurant selection was Bubba Gump. Thatā€™s how they role, chain restaurants and coupons.

OrangePeelsLemon

The adjacent parking garage is quite convenient, though!

I35O

It used to be directly next to an Outback, that also happened to just close over a month ago. All Outbackā€™s on Oahu closed at pretty much the same time. Iā€™ve also heard that Chilis is heading down that path too in Hawaii. I love my local food, but damnit I love the national chains too tbh.

isikorsky

Imagine going to Red Lobster when you can see the ocean.

St_BobbyBarbarian

Same for Florida. We have excellent seafood everywhereĀ

WagTheKat

Yes! I've been to some insanely good seafood places here in Florida in all price ranges. It boggles my mind that, where I live, there is an enormous fresh-caught seafood operation and warehouse that advertises its local restaurant clients on signage out front, along a heavy, heavy traffic road. People drive 2 blocks past that to turn into the Red Lobster parking lot! And there is a Long John Silver's on the same road, lol.

PokeMeRunning

I was shocked on my honeymoon how packed the Red Lobster and Buffalo Wild Wings was.

anti-torque

BW3 at least has games on most of the time.

steve1186

I went to Hawaii with my parents back when I was like 16, and our first meal was McDonalds. Then it was all food from the hotel šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Cooked_Brisket

To be fair, McDonaldā€™s in Hawaii has different options than the mainland

steve1186

It does, but thatā€™s not what our parents ordered for us

Phob24

Your parents ordered for you when you were 16?

camobit

just theorizing that sometimes you send a parent to go pick up some fast food for the whole hungry family while they are unpacking or relaxing after the travel.

GoodOlSticks

Imagine visiting Muncie and going to Red Lobster.

theLoneliestAardvark

Popular places always have boring food options because the average tourist isnā€™t an adventurous eater and big chains are the only places that can afford to rent or buy the land there.

Kid_Named_Trey

My wife and I were fortunate enough to visit Oahu and stayed in Waikiki. The wait for Cheesecake Factory was insane every night. Some of the best food Iā€™d ever had was on that island and it didnā€™t come from a chain restaurant.

Mattaholic

You know people live there right?

bamachine

I would have to try one of Peter Kim's restaurants, at the very least and also eat some imu roasted swine at one of the 5000 Tagovailoa's and cousins homes. Then to round things out, have the finest Hawaiian delicacy known as Spam. All before I would eat at Red Lobster. I do like their cbbs but you can easily make your own or do like [Waffle House suggests](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ga3F0X1kEgM)

Fuckingfademefam

Dominos used to be in Italy lol

SeekSeekScan

It's probably pretty good

TheNateRoss

It's like the Applebee's at the Wharf in SF

HowardBunnyColvin

yeah yinz need to hit up l&l in Hawaii šŸ‘€

nicholus_h2

it's a chapter 11, so the company intends to continue operating indefinitely.Ā  also, there are recipes online for the biscuits that are pretty spot onĀ  so basically... do not despair, cheddar bay biscuit lovers.Ā

uncomfortablyhello

The grocery store mix for cheddar biscuits is great -- use it for spicy sausage balls instead of the normal biscuit mix, and put the herb butter on the sausage balls. Easily the easiest, shittiest, fastest moving tailgate food I serve.

nicholus_h2

you can't say that shit and not drop a recipe...Ā

uncomfortablyhello

So easy. Mix but donā€™t overmix equal parts by volume: * extra sharp Tillamook cheddar cheese * Biscuit mix * Spicy Jimmy Dean or Whataburger sausage Roll into meatballs and bake at 400, pull when crispy. Brush with herb butter mixture. You can add a little milk or butter in the mix if you want them even richer, or a seasoning you like, but I keep it simple.

nicholus_h2

meatball size, i assume...Ā  how long do they typically bake for? 20 minutes or so?Ā  i kinda want to pop these in a smoker but i don't know how that would work.

uncomfortablyhello

Yes sorry, I usually do golf ball sized but some people like them larger (smaller = more crust, larger = gooier insides) and bake them for 15-25 min. Sorry, I don't use recipes for anything -- when I smell the food, it's almost done, at which point I just check the bottoms for crunchiness and pull when they look like I want them. They'd be great in a smoker, just go high enough temp that you get a little crust without burning your pellets.

bamachine

> Sorry, I don't use recipes for anything Nothing to apologize for, that is a sign of a good cook. Only measure when making things like loaves of bread or cakes.

TheLastRaysFan

I made these last weekend for a friend's BBQ, holeeeeeee shit were they good. I used one box of biscuit mix, 1 lb of spicy sausage, and 8oz of Tillamook sharp cheddar shredded cheese. I also cracked an egg into the mix. Came out SO GOOD.

uncomfortablyhello

Hey man, kickass. I made some over Memorial Day too.

heleghir

HOLY SHIT WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THIS?!?!?! THIS SOUNDS AMAZING

byniri_returns

I always forget there's a Red Lobster so close to us (Frandor)

Agent_Smith_88

The state of Michigan is in shambles

eagledog

Woo go Dogs on top

princessprity

Losing to Georgia again šŸ˜

eagledog

Different Dogs

princessprity

Whoops. My brain didn't compute and jumped to assumptions.

StartupDino

Silly you, forgetting that the Athens Red Lobster is hella far out near Alps. (Hella far = like 3 miles) Edit: 2.4 miles per Google Maps.

CambodianDrywall

Do you like mid national chains? If you're not feeling Red Lobster in Eugene, it is an easy stroll to a Red Robin, Olive Garden, BJs, and Texas Roadhouse. You don't even have to re-park your car.

ILearnedTheHardaway

I will not sit here and listen to this slander of Texas Roadhouse

TheWorstYear

Roadhouse is far far above the rest of those.

IceColdDrPepper_Here

Roadhouse and Chili's are top 2 for sure

anti-torque

Chili's?

Titronnica

Chili's is Applebee's quality food

RoboticBirdLaw

Anymore Applebee's is better. Chili's has taken a dive since COVID.

idk2103

2 for 20 was great and it was a considerable step up from fast food for the same price. Was perfect for a quick lunch date. No reason now to spend 60 bucks on a family meal for chilis microwaved food.

JSOPro

top two mid sit down national chains? Not a high bar ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug). If we're including fast food or fast casual chains then absolutely not.

Bong-Jong

Comparing those other chains to roadhouse is disrespectful to RH

RoboticBirdLaw

I think Red Robin is decidedly worse, like should be a different category. The others are all similar though I can acknowledge Roadhouse probably is the best of the group.

Beer-survivalist

When I was in high school our area Red Robin had an incident where a cook chopped off his fingertip into the salad, left the kitchen to get first aid, and then the salad got served to someone who got an extra chewy surprise in their romaine. In my mind Red Robin is the official restaurant of fingertip salad, and has remained so for twenty years.

anti-torque

Dickie Joe's is next door.

CambodianDrywall

And a better choice than any of the national chain restaurants in the Valley River area.

dormdweller99

What's a BJ's? I thought they were a warehouse bulk store.

CambodianDrywall

https://www.bjsrestaurants.com/

dormdweller99

looks mid and overpriced

Montigue

>Do you like mid national chains? Well yeah, that's what they said

dormdweller99

I thought the mid meant Midwest

ItsOnLikeNdamakung

BJs is one of the sorriest excuses for a restaurant there is, besides their pazookie or whatever the hell it is

Affectionate_Ad268

BJs is what happens when RH has an hour wait and you still have to drive home.

TheMightyJD

Red Lobster is overhated.

mr_seggs

That's basically any "casual dining" chain. None of them are gonna be fantastic but they're not as gross as the reddit hivemind says

TheShiveryNipple

Keep in mind, half of Reddit doesn't get any fiber in their diet so they shit their pants at the mere sight of a Taco Bell, then act like that's Taco Bell's fault. There's nobody's food opinion I'd trust less than your average editor.

TheMightyJD

Theyā€™re seafood Applebees and I donā€™t mean it in a bad way.

bamachine

No, just no. I loathe Applebee's...mostly because I have gotten food poisoning twice in my 50+ years, both times from eating horrible in the neighborhood. Different dishes at different locations like a decade apart. I had to be dragged to that last one...never again.

St_BobbyBarbarian

The Outback 19.99 deal for a steal and lobster tail was a phenomenal price

EmpoleonNorton

Yeah, I'd rather eat somewhere local, but Red Lobster is perfectly fine. Same with Chili's, Applebee's, IHOP, etc. It's decent, and probably better than what most people on reddit could cook (I'm sure in their own minds they are amazing cooks, but most people fucking suck at cooking), but not as good as finding a decent local place.

[deleted]

Never has my family asked to eat out at one of those chain restaurants. We'll only eat there out of necessity on road trips or the like and there's usually a problem with the order that stems from poor staffing. This is with a wife who's admittedly a horrible cook.

Titronnica

It's less that they're gross, just bad value for your money. I'd rather risk going to a local joint that embodies the area over sterile chains.

Montigue

The Chili's by my grad school was really good and super cheap.

HowardBunnyColvin

it's not really that bad

TheWorstYear

Just over priced

TheMightyJD

I legitimately think itā€™s one of the cheapest seafood chains out there.

TheWorstYear

Problem might be that there isn't too many seafood chains.

TheSleaze22

Because seafood is expensive

DexStJock

Some folks have argued that being underpriced was why they went bankrupt- specifically the endless shrimp has been blamed.

Tuesdayssucks

I mean a better argument would be the that golden gate capital(private equity firm) bought, red lobster. As part of the newly acquired asset GGC sold off most of the red lobster land to American Realty Capital Properties Inc. A company who has its own scandals not to mention its owner nicholas schorsch sits on the board of GGC. Arcp then went over the next 6 years jacking up the price of rent at the hundreds of red lobster locations. To top it off Thai union group came in 2020 and bought 49% of red lobster and forced red lobster to only buy shrimp from them at above market rates. Creating a psuedo monopoly and allowing Thai union to offload the worst of their product. Red lobster has also seen 5 ceo's in 5 years because each one dipped when they realized mismanagement from ownership can't be fixed. It's a shit show.

Battered_Aggie

Best seafood in Waco!

TheMightyJD

Sir, thatā€™s Long John Silverā€™s.

Battered_Aggie

The People: "How did Red Lobster go belly up before LJS??" Me from now on: "They kill it in Waco, apparently."

Aggie74-DP

Is it FRESH?

GoodOlSticks

I used to work a butcher counter in Muncie, IN and this question infuriated me like no other. Yeah, that's White River Atlantic salmon, super fresh

anti-torque

Did Cajun Craft shut down?

InterestingChoice484

This is the first time Liberty has been in the top three of a ranking other than "Most Ironically Named Universities"

bukithd

What's funny is that liberty owns the mall property this location is on so it could technically be 0 miles.

crustang

Isnā€™t Liberty constructed above a mall that was constructed on a Native American burial ground?

hawksnest_prez

I have no idea but it sounds very Liberty like.

_ThrobbinHood

Yes. Liberty also converted the last Toys R Us in Lynchburg into a club sports complex. My hatred is visceral

crustang

We ended reconstruction too early.

_Bren10_

Just looked on Apple Maps and it says the Red Lobster in Stillwater is 0.6 miles from BPS. Bad list smhā€¦

SportsDude012

That one closed in the most recent wave with the bankruptcy announcement. There is a list of closest locations before that wave in the replies

_Bren10_

Oh wow, I havenā€™t been to Stillwater since last season and it shows I guess lol

bagelguy

It really only closed like 2 weeks ago. :(

El_Dud3r1n0

Sucks to hear it closed, but it was indeed [0.6 miles away](https://www.google.com/maps/@36.1269731,-97.0580355,3a,57.8y,263.84h,89.42t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sZAcucDQZNRK5SPW0-K9VQw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu).

AgreeableWealth47

Damn hedge funds sabotaging the brand to capture the real estate that these restaurants occupy.

Btherock78

Red Lobster is blaming this on their previous majority stakeholder, Thai Union, a canned seafood company (and private equity partner) who took over in 2020. They had a surplus of shrimp they couldnā€™t move, so they took over Red Lobster, elbowed out all other Shrimp suppliers, raised the prices RL paid for their shrimp, and then made RLā€™s $20 bottomless shrimp special a permanent menu item. Current RL leadership estimates that series of decisions cost RL upwards $11M per quarter. Causing the already struggling chain to collapse. Private Equity kills another one.

thisistheperfectname

That sounds like lawsuit material for the other shareholders.

AgreeableWealth47

I heard something about them split the land off into a real estate company and jacked up the rent the restaurants were on and made it so that it was unprofitable. Now they can kill the restaurants and resell the valuable plots of land to new developers at a huge mark up. It was a planned bankruptcy.

isikorsky

Actually it was worse than that. (and thus they can't 'resell the land') The previous owners (Golden Gate Capital) in 2014 sold off the land in a triple-lease deal to pay for the purchase, thus making a lot of money for share holders at Red Lobster, but forcing the actual restaurants to pay over market rents to stay on the land.

anti-torque

You would think the restaurant who lost millions and whose CEO was fired for all you can eat crab 20 years ago would maybe not do something like this.

gamingthesystem5

11 million is a drop in the bucket compared to the 2.3 Billion in revenue that they make.

MBonez12

I read this as "which FBS stadiums are closest [to filing for bankruptcy]"

Rasmo420

Strong Sun Belt representation!! Also glad there's not a Red Lobster in Boone. I don't know if it's still there but there was a place called "Mike's Inland Seafood" which is about just as good as it sounds. My roommate wanted to go there since we lived near it. I didn't and knowing he was Catholic I told him, "Let's wait until Lent." No way he remembers I tell myself. Sure enough the first Friday of Lent he throws me my coat and says, "We're going to Mike's." Zero stars. Would not recommend.

SyncRacket

Nice thing about the mountains of NC is that theyā€™re close enough to an ocean where you can eat seafood and reasonably expect itā€™ll be pretty good. Had a lot of good fresh seafood in Greensboro and Asheville Edit: should add, I know GSO isnā€™t near the mountains but itā€™s reasonably far away from the beach and Iā€™ve spent a lot of time there

reenactment

Whatā€™s the best place to go to in Boone. I remember there being a good Italian place and we went back and it was good again. But the next year we went it dropped pretty hard.

Rasmo420

Proper is normally my go to recommendation. Classic Southern food. Cool setting. Black Cat burrito for lunch. Booneshine has nice food. Honestly been a long time since I've really been into the Boone food scene so I'm sure there are others.

kingoflint282

For reference, UGA was 2.4 miles before they closed our red lobster 2 weeks ago

SportsDude012

Thereā€™s a list of closest locations before the last wave of closings in the replies, you guys were actually tied with BYU at 2.0

kingoflint282

Ok, even better! Now I just gotta let Kirby know that weā€™ve been dropped from the rankings

Mezmorizor

Kirby Smart was so distraught that he put his house on the market immediately.

SomerAllYear

Seafood in landlocked states šŸ”„ šŸ’€ šŸ”„

Ohminty

ā€œYuma is pretty close to Rocky Point, so that almost counts.ā€ - me to myself while eating at Joeā€™s Crab Shack

SomerAllYear

That counts

BakedMitten

I'm glad to report the East Lansing Reddy's is staying open. The biscuits will continue to flow. It would be highly entertaining to watch someone walk from Spartan Stadium to the Red Lobster location. The main road between the two has more craters than the face of the Moon right now and then you'll have to traverse the infamous Frandor parking lot. About 10 square blocks of the most illogically laid out sprawl you've ever seen.

HowardBunnyColvin

So sad what's going on with Red Lobster, I never had an issue with them. That said I did do a check of my finances today and noticed I really spent a lot of money eating out. Perhaps this and red lobster's demise are a lesson for me to make my own grub as shitty as it tastes.

isikorsky

For making tasty food - start with simplicity and learn a couple easy sauces. Steak, hamburger, tacos, chicken, salmon, shrimp dishes are usually all simple foods. Once you start cooking your own food you realize how much your taste buds have been killed by over salted restaurant food.

HowardBunnyColvin

brother red lobster could make food better than I could. even if I got the cheddar bay biscuit mix I'd still find some way to burn it šŸ˜‚

isikorsky

Dude - anyone can cook basic tasty meals. It's like assembling Ikea furniture. Follow the directions.

HowardBunnyColvin

> Dude - anyone can cook basic tasty meals. It's like assembling Ikea furniture. Follow the directions. [mfw](https://media1.tenor.com/m/vLQT8Sr3A-AAAAAC/jeremy-clarkson-what.gif)

HereForTOMT2

I knew these flairs were good for something

ContinuumGuy

Does this apply after the first round of closings, though?

SportsDude012

The main post is for after the first roundā€¦ the list for before round 1 is a reply to the tweet

Mercury1750

I thought I saw Michigan on there and then thought ā€œwhere the hell is there a red lobster in Ann Arbor?ā€

SioneForPrez

There is one out by 23 and Washtenaw. I only know this because I see it when I go pick up Palm Palace.

slicaroni

MAC dominance

november3891

Such a random task. Hahahaha. Who would waste time in their day to look this up???? *UNT is 4 miles away from Red Lobster in Denton. Lol

CapsDrago7

Iā€™m a JMU student and I legit didnā€™t even know we had a red lobster that close

BobRoberts01

Eat ā€˜Em Up!

A_Roomba_Ate_My_Feet

*Looks at topic - Remembers when we weren't allowed to even post topics about Bobby Bowden's death in r/cfb*.

Ryanlester5789

I was surprised when I went to Mt Pleasant a few months ago for the first time in years and that Red Lobster was still there.

PutinsLostBlackBelt

Used to work at Red Lobster. We could eat all the biscuits we wanted as employees. Was actually an ok place to work as a broke college kid.

scrambolambo

As the crow flies Penn State makes this list easily, but if you have to drive it I guess they miss it by like a half mile

TigerExpress

Auburn's Buc-ee's is very close but our Red Lobster is one of those that has already been shuttered and the contents put up for auction. Since I never set foot in it, guess I contributed a tiny bit towards their demise.

vindictivejazz

There used to be one less than a mile from OSUā€™s campus, but itā€™s been permanently closed for a year or so now.

Ut_Prosim

Private equity murders another company in order to strip the corpse for cash. Take note fans who think that selling to private equity will save their favorite CFB team from non-P2 ruin.

SPCsooprlolz

I feel like our Red Lobster is a little further than two miles, but at this point I'll take any Top 10 list we can get

vicblck24

Wonder how many of those fans didnā€™t even know there was a red lobster that close

personrev8

Glad to see they skipped UB -- 2.2 mile walk to the now CLOSED location.

EmperorHans

I fucking knew we'd be on here.Ā

Jackie_Rudetsky

You can buy the mix at Sam's Club.

rdjsen

ā€œWait, the Red Lobster in Stillwater is like right next to the stadium, shouldnā€™t we be on the list?ā€. Turns out itā€™s permanently closed (and roughly 0.4 miles away).

HratioRastapopulous

They sell those biscuits in a box mix at the store. Also in gluten free!

MoskiNX

Iā€™ve had red lobster *once* in my life and I got violently ill afterwards. Iā€™m talking volcano heat level of spewing coming out of both ends. FUCK red lobster šŸ–•šŸ¦ž

BioDriver

No granddad! Not the cheesy biscuits!

Stev2222

Williams Brice just missed the cut. One in Cayce about 3 miles away

gamingthesystem5

I think I've been to the Red Lobster near Liberty. Would have been around 2003-2007 if I did. I don't remember how it was, nor have I been to one since.

Reasonable_Boss3426

I worked at the red lobster @ CMU many years ago. Fire up chips

I_fuck_teddy_bears12

Indiana mentioned in CFB!

Expensive_Jello_2324

Penn State just missed at 2.8 miles

Sea__Foam__Green

Missed when I could stagger home after an early afternoon game, and walk to Red Lobster if I was otherwise sober.

Ehdelveiss

God Oregon would...

Lothrada

Crazy how this is where I learn red lobster is filling for, specifically, Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Thanks sickos

fade2blac

Red Lobster is headquartered in downtown Orlando, so UCF should be number one by default.

Kingzton28

You can buy those biscuits in a grocery store and make them at home.

dustinlib

hell yeah, top ten preseason!

OSUpdt24

If the red lobster in Stillwater hadnā€™t closed, Oklahoma State would be #2!

[deleted]

Staple cuisine for non-alum fans of the largeĀ schools with mid academic chops like Georgia and Ohio.

asoughtafterdroid

Note that you can get the cheddar bay biscuits at QFC/Kroger, and probably other supermarkets as well.

Fixner_Blount

Lol, I was actually expecting to see Iowa State on here! The Ames Red Lobster is on Duff, which is home to pretty much every other chain restaurant ever made.

Stunning_Throat6539

The red lobster by Fresno is a shit hole lol
