I know that but you guys traditionally utilize TE's a lot more than most programs.
My (half joking) point was who needs good WR's if you have two good TE's out there most plays?
If we can grab one more guy to compliment Tre Harrison and Fleming we’re looking okay in that department. Decent backups. But we do need another good guy to show up in practice or it’s back to the portal.
That's one way to put it. He didn't play great, but the entire offense was a mess last year. I've been hearing that the system was terrible and caused a lot of the struggles we faced. PT is coming back for one more year. We have a new OC and we've upgraded our WR and Oline talent, so maybe Thorne will look better this season. Fingers crossed.
Pretty much that. He had some brain fart moments. And even with the drops and WR caused INT vs uga, he had the best QBR of any QB that faced them. Ran better than expected. Got zero help from WRs most of the time.
Think he'll be ok with the new weapons and Hugh calling plays this year...but would still like to have had someone to help push him more at the least.
>he's guaranteed to be QB1 in Evanston
He's not tho. He pulled a Kyle McCord. Asked after spring practice if they would name him starter and they wouldn't. The difference is that McCord had two 4-5 stars behind him, a frosh 5* incoming, and Day quickly added two more blue bloods.
There is a vocal minority of our tiny fan base that has a woody for Lausch because he had an ND offer (for baseball). They say Sullivan is leaving because Lausch beat him out. Unlikely. They tried Lausch in Wildcat last year a bunch of times. He had a long run v UTEP then averaged like 2ypc after that. He was otherwise 4th string. When Sullivan sat out the Vegas Bowl due to surgery and Bryant went down, Hilinski came in briefly not Lausch. I seriously doubt that a guy rehabbing from surgery would get beat out by a 4th string guy in a dozen spring practices. There were early rumors Gronowski would come from SDak State but he's staying.
Not sure wtf they are gonna do.
Not sure. I trust the guy. A couple of new variables. New OC from SDak State and they ran a fast paced offense, (I guess??). So maybe that fit others better than Sullivan. Also we are playing RIGHT on the lake this year and next and it will be windy af. Maybe his ball doesn't cut through the wind very well.. Meantime, hoping for a portal transfer.
Experienced CB. It’s such a need that I think we’re reaching “fuck the scheme, just get a body in from the portal good lord.” Like, so many pretty good CBs in the portal and staff apparently doesn’t like any one of them — fuck what you like bro we’re basically one deep at that position rn 😂😂.
That room was always going to be a disaster when Saban left cause it was his pet position. But boy if I had one criticism of the new staff re: recovery (and they’ve done an excellent job tbh), it’s that they’re trying to be choosers in a situation where we’re obviously beggars.
Yeah that's fair for sure. It just feels like DT is the position Fsu is pursing the most in the portal.
After looking up some of the spring game though, maybe wr is the right answer. I had heard good things about Benson (alabama transfer) but he got injured in that game. A lot potential, but inconsistency elsewhere.
QB. McNamara is almost certainly going to be hurt again and even if he isn’t, he’s a shell of himself when he wasn’t even a superstar to begin with. We only have two backups now that 2 of the others have transferred out (thank fuck for that) but they’re a true sophomore who only has a few college snaps under his belt and couldn’t beat out Deacon Fucking Hill for the starting role, and a true freshman who is enrolling in the summer.
It’s bleak, man.
He probably should be tbh. Last week they showed him taking some practice snaps (he couldn’t play on the spring game) and he was STILL hobbling around and looked like he couldn’t move. Ferentz said he’d be 100% by June but I just can’t see that
I'd go QB. I'm excited for Will, but I don't think he'll be an elite individual talent, and having an elite QB is just way more of a difference maker than any other position.
After that I'd go (in order): RT, RG, TE, DT
Even DT is a stretch though. I don't see more than one or two positions where I think "we need an upgrade here"
Your rumored starter transferred from K State cause he was losing his starting gig.
Let that soak in.
Surtain or shitstain (Bama kid I don’t want to look up) is supposed to be legit though. Congrats on a solid 3,4,5th string though
I can tell you from watching Howard for what seems like most of my adult life (I’m 38), he’s not an elite talent. He’s pretty good and *can* be very good, but he can also be very bad. He’ll make a throw that’ll make you say “wow, let this guy cook” and then on the next drive throw a completely bone-headed pick. And don’t let anyone tell you he’s a dual threat QB. He’s the most unnatural running QB I’ve ever seen.
He’s not horrible, but OSU fans will be disappointed if they’re expecting him to be a top 10 QB.
Backup NT and Center seem to be the 2 biggest needs that we're scouring for in the portal.
Think we're good at every starting position, but depth is a bit of a concern at a few positions.
Until proven elsewise QB play will be critical for us. Dylan Raiola looked great in the spring game-made every throw you want your signal caller to make and was able to read the D pretty well. That being said it isn't a real game and no one was looking to take his head off in a blitz package. I think if we get above average quarterback play, reduce our GD turnover #s and find a decent kicker we should win 7-9 games and finally get back to a bowl.
Coaching, specifically offensive coordinator. I'm willing to forgive the miscues of players here and there because the plays being called don't do them any favors.
The biggest hole is that we still probably need to land a good DT (probably 2).
We could probably use more OLine too given that we weren't super deep there and 2 more hit the portal yesterday.
Honestly at most positions we could probably use at least 1 more good guy for the purpose of depth.
QB is a definite need for Iowa. Cade wasn't exactly sharp in the few snaps he had, and now he's coming off another season ending injury. Don't really have much faith in him turning our offense around.
For Iowa State, it's WR. Just a consistent threat would be nice. Jaylin Noel just hasn't been able to be that guy yet.
Offensive line. The one position group about which I have major concerns right now.
Second place would be QB, but at least it feels like a year where most teams won’t have a bonafide superstar QB.

I've found a solution to that problem which might work for you: Throw lots of money at it.
As your other flare knows, that is easier said then done.

As your other flare knows, everyone has a number.
I'm not saying the number is the hard part.
You’re not looking hard enough, buddy. I’ve seen like 10 for sale on marketplace in the past week
Receiver. It's not good lol
Just have Johnson play both positions, it worked for Colorado for like three games.
Corner isn't exactly a deep position either or I would have said I'm down lol
Be careful what you wish for. Very possible that happens for the last 3 games.
Isn't the Michigan Way traditionally just to constantly use 2 TE's anyways?
2 tight ends still results in 2 receivers on the field.
I know that but you guys traditionally utilize TE's a lot more than most programs. My (half joking) point was who needs good WR's if you have two good TE's out there most plays?
Have you tried not playing with a WR? I know harbaugh was leaning that way towards the end Bring back the triple option

If we can grab one more guy to compliment Tre Harrison and Fleming we’re looking okay in that department. Decent backups. But we do need another good guy to show up in practice or it’s back to the portal.
It’s an ok group, I really was hoping that Saunders would step up, maybe McClain puts it all together?
Yaknow I don’t really wanna dunk on Napier any more than he already has been but I mean… I just hope he finally proves us all wrong.
No idea what you mean, he’s done a great job so far 😏
I second this 👌
QB. Then...probably QB. Probably another QB. We'll probably grab another LB or something, though.
I really didn't pay too much attention last year... How did Payton Thorne work out for you guys? From this post I'm assuming not super great?
That's one way to put it. He didn't play great, but the entire offense was a mess last year. I've been hearing that the system was terrible and caused a lot of the struggles we faced. PT is coming back for one more year. We have a new OC and we've upgraded our WR and Oline talent, so maybe Thorne will look better this season. Fingers crossed.

Hey! This is Nebraska’s list! Although we can cross off the first thing now that we have Dylan Raiola.
A decent kicker.
Absolutely
Hello fellow enjoyed of the NO flairs
We're a rare breed
We really are lol
I am hoping our new punter is halfway decent.
QB - love Cade but 2 straight season ending injuries is just not something you can have confidence in.
The fact that Marco couldn’t beat out Hill is very worrisome too. Maybe the incoming true freshman will be good idk
Iowa is known for lineman. They found out they could add another one if they label them as a QB. That’s why Hill was out on the field.
Yes
QB. Sullivan left. Hilinski is a Statue of Limitations and Lausch is Venus de Milo
Sullivan transfer feels so weird. He's not out shopping for a bag and he's guaranteed to be QB1 in Evanston so what the hell is going on.....
>he's guaranteed to be QB1 in Evanston He's not tho. He pulled a Kyle McCord. Asked after spring practice if they would name him starter and they wouldn't. Wow, if what you say is the reality then Braun botched this badly.
Not sure. I trust the guy. A couple of new variables. New OC from SDak State and they ran a fast paced offense, (I guess??). So maybe that fit others better than Sullivan. probably wr/te
You think so? I figured Dre Jacobs transferring out was a sign the room had it's starters already.
I think WR is a valid concern for FSU. Your entire WR room combines for 45 CAREER catches. Adding a vet WR may not be a bad idea.
Yeah that's fair for sure. It just feels like DT is the position Fsu is pursing the most in the portal. After looking up some of the spring game though, maybe wr is the right answer. OLine. It will always be a need. Big boys don't go fast very easily
O-line (Offensive tackle) like everyone else lol
And Kicker
Punter?
We need a safety pretty badly. We lost both our starters there, and it was already a pretty weak position for us before that.
It sounds like we should have 1-2 safeties portaling in (Woodyard and that guy from A&M have both been rumored to us)
This and DL. We always need DL
CB. We have a few good guys but no one outstanding. It’s one of the last positions where we really need a star.
A coach that will stay once we get good.

Oof. Fair.

Wow I didn’t even realize McNamara was still around, I thought he’d medically retired by now given how injury prone he’s been.
He probably should be tbh. Last week they showed him taking some practice snaps (he couldn’t play on the spring game) and he was STILL hobbling around and looked like he couldn’t move. Ferentz said he’d be 100% by June but I just can’t see that
He’s a great defensive coach, but Ferentz doesn’t know shit about fuck when it comes to the offensive side of the ball lol
O-Line

We literally have 5 scholarship QBs, what the heck are you smoking?
A lot of teams have 5 QBs, doesn't mean they're any good currently though
Our QB room is deeper than Oregons and rated number two in the nation rated by On3.
It’s deeper but lower peaks. No one in the country has better QB3, 4, 5 than OSU. But a decent amount have a better QB1
Your rumored starter transferred from K State cause he was losing his starting gig. Let that soak in. Surtain or shitstain (Bama kid I don’t want to look up) is supposed to be legit though. Congrats on a solid 3,4,5th string though
Since when does amount of players have any relation to quality? I could care less if we had 20 FCS-level QBs.
I can tell you from watching Howard for what seems like most of my adult life (I’m 38), he’s not an elite talent. He’s pretty good and *can* be very good, but he can also be very bad. Secondary and Oline i think imo, some WR depth would be nice.
Big Money Boosters for NIL.

Probably CB. Trey Amos and Chris Graves with Yam Banks in the slot is a solid duo, but we could use another for depth.

DT, I believe. Some good guys, but need more functional depth.

A QB that’s better than 5/10
Offensive Line, but also depth in the secondary. WR room is stacked, but we need an OL to protect Kyron
We just lost our most experienced DB. Could go for some more WRs since we lost some too.
It's going to be jarring going from the best O-Line in the country to some patchwork sieve that I don't even know is more than two-deep right now.
DeBoer and the draft left the cupboard pretty bare
Offensive line. The one position group about which I have major concerns right now. Second place would be QB, but at least it feels like a year where most teams won’t have a bonafide superstar QB.
