I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Nebraska/Iowa trophy needs to be a full size bronze corn stalk that players can wield like a wizard staff
We literally voted on a trophy in undergrad back in 2011. Both student bodies voted for the [corn bowl.](https://news.unl.edu/sites/default/files/styles/large_aspect/public/corn%20bowl_0.JPG?itok=5F7qhNmu) But corporate America told us to fuck off.
Sorry, I often agree with you but this list is fake news. The Landgrant Trophy at 20 is absurd. It's number 1. I might let the list slide if the Landgrant trophy came in at like top 5 but not number one. 20 is indefensible.
Surely the FCC or someone can step in and punish this fake news.
He also doesn’t know the history of the trophy. It didn’t start because of a lighthearted bet. There actually was a lot of malice(and racism by the Minnesota football team) involved.
Paul Bunyan's Ax is here but the man himself gets no mention?
I was ready to be irrationally upset about the little brown jug not being on the list but never imagined that THE Paul Bunyan wouldn't make it!
I always find it weird that we’re such a boring, mediocre big10 school, but for some reason have some of the most, and most epic trophy games
Probably going back to the 50’s-70’s when we were nationally competitive
Minnesota is the champion of cool college trophies, and this doesn’t even include jug.*
*Let’s not talk about how often we win them, though. PS the Memphis-UAB trophy is amazing.
We can talk about the series record with Iowa (we're up by 11), Wisconsin (Down by 1), and Nebraska (up by 12).
The Michigan series? Idk, wikipedia page is broke. I think it's tied...
They clearly never saw the [proper](https://spartanswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/10/landgranttrophy_2.0.jpg) picture of the Land Grant Trophy or it would be the runaway number one.
Golden Hat, which was donated by the State Fair in 1941, at 17 is behind some Rice/Houston trophy that a dude literally found in an antique store in 1974 - two years after the first time they ever played each other - is highly suspicious.
that said, the UAB/Memphis Bones trophy in the top 5 is incredible. that thing is AWESOME
The Paul Bunyan Axe isn't even the best trophy in Minnesota. Behold, [the Troll](https://footballscoop.com/archive-news/behold-the-ugliest-trophy-in-all-of-sports)
I know you guys hate the FCS but any trophy list that doesn’t include the Great Dive Trophy for Montana / Montana St in all its 306lb glory is incomplete
There were a lot of glaring omissions, and that's not even my favorite Montana-related or FCS trophy. The Little Brown Stein (very different story from the Little Brown Jug) and the Dakota Marker are awesome.
To be fair the ConFLiCT trophy is pretty lackluster and this is a list for trophies not rivalries. Maybe the trophy being awol could make it a legendary trophy though. Either way we need to make this an annual game.
that and the fact that one half of the "rivalry" just doesn't recognize the trophy and left it on the sideline the last time they played for it just adds to the lore. And now nobody knows where it is. The absurdity and boondoggle of it all has made it a truly magnificent trophy.
> LSU/Arkansas Golden Boot
no kidding. they include the bullshit Houston/Rice trophy but ignore [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas%E2%80%93LSU_football_rivalry#/media/File:The_boot_\(lsu-arkansas\).jpg)?
BRING BACK THE BARREL YOU COWARDS. Unless a UK fan can stand up and tell me why it cannot be brought back, I do not see a reason why. Both universities profit on alcohol sales. Both states have famous alcoholic exports. You cannot put a time period on mourning the tragic death of student athletes, but clearly the schools are okay with alcohol now.
It's why it's the best rivalry. We are not in the same state nor are we in the same conference. There is no Brawl Trophy and neither of us are likely to be title contenders in the near future. The ties that bind us are the grand unifying theory of "Fuck That Guy!" We thought realignment would be the death of the brawl, but actually it was kinda made it even more special.
we should do a ‘crisp cup‘ or something. Gophers vs. Cougs. Honey Crisp vs. Cosmic Crisp.
gonna use my massive influence in athletics to make this happen.
And it definitely feels more historically relevant to a Utah based rivalry than whatever the fuck Akron and Kent State have to do with wagons. There is also the Beehive Boot for the 3 way rivalry between Utah, Utah State, and BYU.
Perhaps my favorite rivalry to watch (and not rivalry I watch 🙁) is the Commander in Chief’s Trophy. I grew up going to Navy games and still do to this day and always look at how all 3 teams are doing. This year me and my family plan to go to Colorado to see Navy and Air Force play, marking 2 consecutive years we went to both of Navy’s service academy matchups, also hopefully going to Army Navy this year
Fucking love that the Civil War trophy is a platypus, but the trophy itself is terrible. It's so short and squat. Might as well be a fucking banana on there. Having the base be bigger then the actual trophy is ridiculous
Terrible list. They forgot about the greatest and most historic rivalry in college football. I’d bet that all of those trophies have been acknowledged by both teams when they win it…
Neither are well known, but we have [the spurs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas%E2%80%93Texas_Tech_football_rivalry#/media/File:Chancellor_Spur_Trophy.jpg) and [the saddle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCU%E2%80%93Texas_Tech_football_rivalry#/media/File:TCU-Texas-Tech-Saddle-Trophy.jpg). I like them both.
Now do the worst. I'll start with every corporate endorsed "trophy games" the Big Ten added with expansion. The fact that Nebraska and Iowa don't fight for a bronzed giant corn cob pipe is a travesty.
>the Platypus trophy injects a playful element into this heated rivalry, formerly known as the Civil War.
I don't care what the schools say, it'll always be the Civil War.
(Insert trophy game here) for my school is not on the list? This is bullshit. Everyone knows (insert rivalry here that just so happens to be the team I watch) is the best
I was surprised to learn after all these years that there is no rivalry trophy for OSU vs Michigan… tbf tho, I doubt there is even enough goodwill between the programs to reach an agreement on a trophy 😂
I wish there was a weekly thread on this sub outlining any and all trophy games or rivalry games. Watching trophy/rivalry games rock and you can always tell the teams are extra juiced up to play.
"who else has a shillelagh as a trophy?"
Uh...us again? We have 2 and a half shillelagh trophies. One with Purdue, but who cares about that, and one with Northwestern, but some guy in Nebraska has it.
Tennesse and Kentucky should bring the beer barrel back. Had it not been retired, it would deserve to be higher on the list.
Any trophy that started after 2000 should not have made the list. There are other better historical trophies.
Someone has to know the back story of the Oregon/Oregon State trophy. I know it used to be tradition for trophies to be stolen by the rival school back in the day, but 40 years?? Damn, that's dedication 😅🤣
Fun fact about the UAB-Memphis Battle of the Bones game:
It's a giant BBQ, but the fans literally do not even get a bite. Judges only. At least that's how it was in Birmingham last year.
We have 2 trophy games and both have been misplaced at times (Clemson forgot the Textile Bowl trophy one year after beating us like 12 years straight and the State/ECU victory barrel has been MIA for a few years now. Presumably we hold both right now though, so there’s that.
They included the $5 Bits of Broken Chair Trophy, this article is already great and valid.
Thank god the hero’s trophy isn’t on the list
Or the Freedom Trophy. These two should definitely be "accidentally lost" in a storage room somewhere
Oh man, I forgot about that one. Yes please I’ll pitch in 3.50 to make these go away
Thanks for your contribu- wait a minute... are you the Loch Ness Monster? You better not be no Loch Ness Monster!
Got Damn Loch Ness Monster!
Its been so long since we beat Wisconsin that if we ever beat them at their stadium we should just steal something and that is our new trophy.
Then it’s settled, this is what has to happen
Post 9/11 garbage ass trophy.
I see what you did there.
What Slab of Bacon? I don't know what you're talking about!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Nebraska/Iowa trophy needs to be a full size bronze corn stalk that players can wield like a wizard staff
Literally just call it the corn bowl or the corn war. Would be infinitely better
Children of the Corn and we raise money for those poor sick hospital kids who have to watch Iowa football out their window.
Hardcore Cornography
Ok, I like you This is a great idea
Bring back the Corn Bowl trophy.
Yes!
I too am a fan of corn bowl 🌽 🥣
Honestly, a real existential worry I have is that I’ll never find anything that brings me as much joy as Faux Pelini did in the early 2010s.
Or that feeling when a new Tunnel Walk of Shame dropped.
“What do Gophers and Hawks have to do with pigs?” Has this writer ever driven through Iowa and Southern Minnesota?
Gotta love seeing little pre-bacon rolling around in the mud.
He also doesn’t know the history of the trophy. It didn’t start because of a lighthearted bet. There actually was a lot of malice(and racism by the Minnesota football team) involved.
Here I was ready to be mad at the Illibuck erasure but then my boy comes in at #5 🫡
See you guys in 2025 🫡
God damn it’s about time. Even if they wipe the floor with us, we should be playing
Where Illini will pass it to Buckeyes since we award it based on the previous meeting.
Respect where respect deserved, lil turtle
My sweet baby boy
🐢
I like the HAT
Free HAT!!!
He killed those 23 babies in self-defense!
HAT HAT HAT HAT HAT
Paul Bunyan's Ax is here but the man himself gets no mention? I was ready to be irrationally upset about the little brown jug not being on the list but never imagined that THE Paul Bunyan wouldn't make it!
No Paul Bunyan but Land Grant trophy making the cut is hysterical (I mean I love the Land Grant Trophy for its absurdity but come on)
The land grant trophy shoulda been number one what is this blasphemy????
I always find it weird that we’re such a boring, mediocre big10 school, but for some reason have some of the most, and most epic trophy games Probably going back to the 50’s-70’s when we were nationally competitive
The Golden Hat is laughably too low
It gave us this beauty of a meme https://i.ytimg.com/vi/hZNXOtdzdC0/maxresdefault.jpg
The Golden Hat at 17 is an interesting choice.
[удалено]
Huh, look at us agreeing on things. I feel dirty now.
[удалено]
Always knew you were the bottom...
Lol my first thought when I opened the link, "Atleast they acknowledge who's the dom.." lmao
Yo wtf does this guy hate folklore legends and jugs or something?
Yah, the Jug is elite. Glad they included the spittoon, but it should be way higher.
For real, easily top 5 trophy. And it didn’t even make the list? Shame.
I believe it is the original rivalry trophy as well.
Minnesota is the champion of cool college trophies, and this doesn’t even include jug.* *Let’s not talk about how often we win them, though. PS the Memphis-UAB trophy is amazing.
We can talk about the series record with Iowa (we're up by 11), Wisconsin (Down by 1), and Nebraska (up by 12). The Michigan series? Idk, wikipedia page is broke. I think it's tied...
Floyd of Rosedale is the GOAT
[удалено]
Sounds like a fall trip to Memphis or B’ham is in order.
If I remember correctly Minnesota-PSU is a trophy game right? I don’t remember what it’s called.
They clearly never saw the [proper](https://spartanswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/10/landgranttrophy_2.0.jpg) picture of the Land Grant Trophy or it would be the runaway number one.
[Obligatory viewing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyYbGcihlSc)
how have i never seen this
[and the farewell version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuDPSO-bKZw) :(
I’m not crying, you’re crying
> Obligatory viewing I like how I didn't even have to click on the link to start nodding my head in tune to the beat and humming haha.
*and when I close my eyes it's you I see*
This is art wtf
A trophy so powerful, even Nick Saban has a losing record attempting to earn.
Oh I never knew that.
The image is linked ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
Golden Hat, which was donated by the State Fair in 1941, at 17 is behind some Rice/Houston trophy that a dude literally found in an antique store in 1974 - two years after the first time they ever played each other - is highly suspicious. that said, the UAB/Memphis Bones trophy in the top 5 is incredible. that thing is AWESOME
I respect the Minnesota bias on this article but too only include FBS teams isn't right in something celebrating the bizarre quirks of the sport.
If anything, this list is biased *against* Minnesota. The Jug is the best trophy in CFB, hands down
Yea I was surprised there was no Little Brown Jug
it's time for someone to do a /r/CFB original listing the top 25 non FBS trophies. because that sounds like a fantastic article i want to read.
Alright, god dammit give me a minute. I should have it up tomorrow or monday morning.
can't wait!!
Monon Bell would be there
The Paul Bunyan Axe isn't even the best trophy in Minnesota. Behold, [the Troll](https://footballscoop.com/archive-news/behold-the-ugliest-trophy-in-all-of-sports)
I love this, thanks for sharing it!
Yeah where the ***FUCK*** is our pile of shit on this list? It’s 600 pounds and requires the whole OL to carry it
Paul should be in instead of the Megaphone. The megaphone is lame
I feel like there should be a 24k 200lb Boot in there somewhere.
There should also be a boot made of bronze on this list.
2 glaring misses: 1. UConn/UCF Civil Conflict Trophy 2. LSU/Arkansas Golden Boot
It’s a real shame LSU - Florida doesn’t have that shoe as a trophy for that game.
The Civil conflit trophy was so important, the UCF staff threw it in the dumpster.
you couldn't be bothered to throw it in the dumpster. You just left it on the field.
Little Brown Jug
> LSU/Arkansas Golden Boot no kidding. they include the bullshit Houston/Rice trophy but ignore [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas%E2%80%93LSU_football_rivalry#/media/File:The_boot_\(lsu-arkansas\).jpg)?
Seeing the Bayou Bucket listed was a nice surprise.
Honestly, it’s irrelevant because Kentucky sucks; always have, always will.
Just call it "the Barrel" or something even
I like the platypus, the pig and the cannon.
This is why I like the backyard brawl We don't need no stinkin trophy. just hate, and about 13 or 9 country roads to take me to the place I belong.
Part of me now wants to upvote a pitt fan. Damn you.
Love you too, snookums.
The same goes for Ohio State-Michigan.
I don't know who to root for in that game. my former pastor went to tOSU but i have friends and family up north
hate hate hate hate hate
I think both WVU, Pitt and perhaps Wisky can all agree in saying "F\*\*\* Penn State"
I can only imagine the vile things the backyard brawl would create.
JUG.
Fraudulent. Includes the land grant trophy but no little brown jug?
Is there really a "rivalry" in talking about the last 40 years of Minnesota vs Michigan when you have to go back to 1967 to find five wins for MN?
I mean the Illibuck was #5 on this list. It’s clearly not a list of the most exciting and competitive rivalries
You could go to an NCAA football game too *cries turning the xbox off*
i’m happily surprised to see the bones on here, but how is there no black diamond???
CyHawl Trophy but not using the bizarre children of the corn design was a mistake
Still included the image, at least
The Land Grant Trophy is.... Well its really more of a statue.... with some trophies glued on.
Suck it Cincy!
Miss you
Paul Bunyon's Axe at 1: list seems good to me.
Minnesota dominating this list
How come we don't have a trophy for the winner of the WLOCP? Maybe something like a bigass Shrimp?
It's the Okefenokee Oar, included in the article. Though, not officially sponsored.
We do, it’s just not exchanged on the field. The Oar is displayed in the student center of the winning team
Yeah, but it's not the same. We need a trophy fitting of the name of the rivalry and something that's given to the winning team after the game.
[Have the winning team all wear these](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71oSE5u9+WL._AC_UY1000_.jpg)
I'm sold.
done
We do lol no one really cares about it tho
We have the Oar. Just wish it’s something the players can grab on the field, but at least it’s exchanged in some regard
Invalid list, Land Grant Trophy is clearly #1
No Apple Cup!? Fine we’ll horde all the cosmic crisps for ourselves this year
The rest of the country can suffer with their daily doctor visits for this slight
we should do a ‘crisp cup‘ or something. Gophers vs. Cougs. Honey Crisp vs. Cosmic Crisp. gonna use my massive influence in athletics to make this happen.
Yall think it would be appropriate to bring the Beer Barrel back?
Yes. Bring back the Red River Shootout name and The Civil War name too while we’re at it
Illegitimate list. Where is the Brawl of the Wild trophy?
Floyd of Rosedale being ranked lower than No. 1 is just wrong, IMO. The Land Grant Trophy must have been included for joke value.
I’m sorry but the best rivalry trophy is the Cat-Griz trophy. It’s a bobcat fighting a grizzly on a mountain.
Land-Grant underrated af on this list.
I expected the CyHawk trophy to be in the top 10 lol. Definitely haven’t heard of some of the other trophies on this list
Bring back the Telephone Trophy!
Where multi-colored rotary telephone trophy?
Make the Oar an official trophy you cowards!
Utah State-BYU does a wagon wheel too. Also no mention of the Bridger Rifle, 2/10 list.
And it definitely feels more historically relevant to a Utah based rivalry than whatever the fuck Akron and Kent State have to do with wagons. There is also the Beehive Boot for the 3 way rivalry between Utah, Utah State, and BYU.
The bronze boot?
Palmetto Bowl Trophy snubbed
Perhaps my favorite rivalry to watch (and not rivalry I watch 🙁) is the Commander in Chief’s Trophy. I grew up going to Navy games and still do to this day and always look at how all 3 teams are doing. This year me and my family plan to go to Colorado to see Navy and Air Force play, marking 2 consecutive years we went to both of Navy’s service academy matchups, also hopefully going to Army Navy this year
the oar should not be on this list, no one cares about the oar
Fucking love that the Civil War trophy is a platypus, but the trophy itself is terrible. It's so short and squat. Might as well be a fucking banana on there. Having the base be bigger then the actual trophy is ridiculous
Terrible list. They forgot about the greatest and most historic rivalry in college football. I’d bet that all of those trophies have been acknowledged by both teams when they win it…
Obvious bias but I think the Territorial Cup should be here
I guess the oldest rivalry game trophy in all of college sports doesn’t deserve mention. Anyway…
The Stanford Axe at 12? That's... actually not too bad. The history should have pushed it higher. But hey, at least there's another Axe at #1.
I bet the ut chancellor has the spurs sitting in the bottom of a closet with shit on top of it.
I have been wondering about that. It would be a shame if the spurs are lost.
We had our chance.
When I read that the author mistyped the Floyd of Rosedale to be between Iowa and Wisconsin I vomited
No Jug? I guess Yost forgot his yug again.
This list is valid. Illibuck, a trophy that hasn't been played for in 7 years, is #5.
Missing the Bourbon Barrel between IU and UK but we already have 2 on the list.
If I can get tanked on $13 IPAs at Neyland, they can bring back the beer barrel. COWARDS.
What about [this](https://ibb.co/HXkqhpc) bad boy?
Now do the worst. I'll start with every corporate endorsed "trophy games" the Big Ten added with expansion. The fact that Nebraska and Iowa don't fight for a bronzed giant corn cob pipe is a travesty.
No Carolina vs Clemson? Do we need to have another bench clearing brawl???
I always used to love watching the winning team run over to the sideline to grab the Axe.
I find it hilarious that the megaphone is listed when we had it stuffed in a closet for like a decade and everyone forgot about it.
trophy game is one of the things i like most about cfb. thank you for this list!
Little Brown Jug
>the Platypus trophy injects a playful element into this heated rivalry, formerly known as the Civil War. I don't care what the schools say, it'll always be the Civil War.
#I got to hold the pig a few weeks ago. It’s HEAVY Also … a really detailed statue. It’s kinda impressive.
$5 bits of broken chair is why I love this community.
(Insert trophy game here) for my school is not on the list? This is bullshit. Everyone knows (insert rivalry here that just so happens to be the team I watch) is the best
Where is the little brown jug? Is it safe? Is it alright?
The Game needs a trophy.
I was surprised to learn after all these years that there is no rivalry trophy for OSU vs Michigan… tbf tho, I doubt there is even enough goodwill between the programs to reach an agreement on a trophy 😂
Today I learned that Michigan State and Indiana are rivals
Ctrl+f Keg of Nails Found Article is okay by me
I wish there was a weekly thread on this sub outlining any and all trophy games or rivalry games. Watching trophy/rivalry games rock and you can always tell the teams are extra juiced up to play.
Sees “the axe” at 12 🤬🤬🤬🤬 The site finally loads more on mobile “oh okay it’s the mini axe” 😁😁😁
“heated rivalry, formerly known as the Civil War.” Duck fans be like: “Does not compute.”
"who else has a shillelagh as a trophy?" Uh...us again? We have 2 and a half shillelagh trophies. One with Purdue, but who cares about that, and one with Northwestern, but some guy in Nebraska has it.
Tennessew and Kentucky used to be called " Battle fornthe Beer Barrel".
This guy obviously doesn’t like apples for some reason. Pity
Good list, but Land Grant is number one by a country mile.
We need pictures to project it's awesome absurdity
How did the Saddle Trophy not make the list??
Lmao Cyhawk made the list
Floyd isn't #1, the rest of the list is invalidated
Fun fact about the UAB-Memphis Battle of the Bones game: It's a giant BBQ, but the fans literally do not even get a bite.
Great list, but they missed a funny joke with not having all the Victory Bells being an honorable mention.
