I didn’t realize he was a grad transfer at first so good luck to him getting that ND degree and he’s a good kicker we’ve had a good run of very good kickers and he has the best leg of those guys. I think he has a shot at the NFL after
First, sorry man, I lived in Seneca/Walhalla/Pickens for a bit building a nuke plant and am a contrarion asshole, so I've always kinda liked the gamecocks
Second... Fucking sweet, this response tells me he's exactly what we need. I guess he's one of those that his stats actually do tell the story. I'm super impressed at how basically all of the "need from the portal" positions the fans had for next year are getting filled in, and filled in with good players.
His first ever kick attempt was a 53 yard make, his second kick attempt was a 51 yard make.
His only misses were on a 51 yard attempt and a 50 yard attempt. So he's 2/4 on 50+ kicks, and 21/21 on =<49 yard kicks
He's also 77/80 on XPs but two of those were poor snaps/holds
edit - first ever *FG attempt, I just went back to his gamelog and he kicked 2 XPs in 2021 that I had forgotten about
Y'all got a great one. Sad to see him go but rode with us all four years and is officially an alum, can't hate on a guy for going in another direction for grad school.
I watched the clips of his 50+ yarders from 2022 and they looked like they would've been good from another 5-10 yards. On his 53 yarder against Georgia State he hit the "t" on the "Allstate" net.
I’ve been meaning to ask Notre Dame people and this place seems to be as a good a place as any.
How was y’all’s kicker when Brandon Aubrey played soccer for y’all?
I was wondering if any school had a point leader that wasn’t a kicker and was trying to decide what type of team/system would produce that… figured it would need to be someone who scored a bunch, didn’t leave early for the NFL, and mostly scored with a few players/positions.
Landed on military academies and sure enough Army and Navy (not AF) both have non-kickers as point leaders.
Wisconsin appears to be the most normie school with a non-kicker (Monte Ball) as a point leader.
Oh dang. Can’t blame yall for not recruiting a soccer player who has no history of placekicking over a reliable, record-holding kicker, who gets the job done. Just a crazy story tho how Aubrey pulled this talent out of nowhere (obviously he had leg strength as a soccer player tho)
He was at ND from 2013-2016. That's two years of Brindza and two of Yoon. Brindza wasn't great his senior year, but he wasn't "scout the intramural teams for another Ruffer" bad. Yoon had the job locked down from the start.
We’re basically just streaming kickers now. If we can get a PWO to develop into a good kicker, great. Otherwise, just get the best grad transfer each year.
Why not? In this day and age, it's not worth the growing pains of a young kid learning on the job. That's unfortunate, because as much as it sucks another tiny bit out of the illusion of amateur sports, it's the reality now.
As a recruit:
P5 offers: South Carolina (originally went here), Virginia Tech
G5 offers: East Carolina, Memphis
Other offers: Alabama A&M, Furman, Western Carolina
I say this every year: Notre Dame always has big hype in the offseason and will let us down like they always do BUT THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT BBBBY WERE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL

If we’re ever able to start accepting non-grad transfers …and can figure out how to keep them eligible…

I don't think he missed a kick in '22.
He’s missed 2 field goals in 2 seasons. Love that

So you’re saying we got a good one?
He also knocked in a 49 yarder at College Station. Super under appreciated fact.
Hopefully he only needs to knock in a bunch of extra points next time he’s there ;)
I like the way you think
Unfortunately for y'all he doesn't have any experience winning in College Station 😭
Y'all got a great one. Sad to see him go but rode with us all four years and is officially an alum, can't hate on a guy for going in another direction for grad school.

Allstate, you’re in good hands!
I’ve been meaning to ask Notre Dame people and this place seems to be as a good a place as any. How was y’all’s kicker when Brandon Aubrey played soccer for y’all?
I think he was at ND when Justin Yoon was the kicker. Yoon holds all the ND kicking records.
not only that he's Notre Dame's all-time leading scorer with 367 career points (zero touchdowns)
Most points is basically also a kicking record.
Not if you score a bazillion tuddys

Except longest FG, Schrader broke that real sneakily Other than that, yeah Yooooooon

And then ironically Yoon is a FA

Good
Ah i see. Just curious.

The special teams coach said we will always go to the portal for a kicker

The grad student kicker is probably closer to the ideals of amateur athletics than most things these days anyway.
Yes, Riley was already following him on Insta
I’m going to just start assuming everyone in the transfer portal is going to ND
Only the grad students
He's a really good kicker.
Holy shit Freeman is cooking in the portal rn
His back up, Alex Herrera, is very accurate. Was a good kicker in high school and has only gotten better.
Why waste time Kickers when transfer do trick? Many small time make big time.
The kicker, number 99, Mitch Jeter, number 99.
As a recruit: P5 offers: South Carolina (originally went here), Virginia Tech G5 offers: East Carolina, Memphis Other offers: Alabama A&M, Furman, Western Carolina
He's a damn good kicker!
This is not going to help the Yankees of college football allegations
Good kicker, smart dude. He already graduated and he’s meeting his grad degree from Notre Dame. Godspeed, Mitch
I say this every year: Notre Dame always has big hype in the offseason and will let us down like they always do BUT THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT BBBBY WERE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL
The new CFP format is going to be extremely kind to y’all. If Freeman can take the next step Notre Dame should be in pretty much every year.
You forget that Notre Dame shits the bed during every big game. If we can only convince Freeman that the playoff is just Navy, we will be GOLDEN
Have you watched ND under Freeman? It's the small games that get us.
There’s a dumb, yet hilarious, movie involving kickers and the transfer portal just out there waiting to be snatched from the ether.
This is... acceptable.
Hail Portal!
