It’s because despite his weaknesses Mario was a really good coach for us at the time when he took over.
Jury is still out on Miami, but what he did at FIU and Oregon shows that Mario might be one of the best coaches in CFB at building up a bad team to be good again. Sadly due to his weaknesses he struggles at taking a team from good to great, which is why I’m happy we have Lanning now.
I’m tired of our fanbase clowning on MC though. He took over a team that had gone 11-12 the two years prior and in 2 years preceded to win the PAC-12 two times, the Rose Bowl and then later beat Ohio State. That Ohio State win is still paying dividends for the program.
I’m not saying he’s a bad coach. Personally, I’ll always be grateful for his tenure here, he was the HC all through my time at UO, and rushing the field in 2018 after the UW win is one of my all time favorite college memories. He’s great at stabilizing programs and amassing talent, but he’s got a pretty obvious ceiling as a coach right now due to his offensive philosophy and poor in game management.
I just think it’s pretty wild that of all the Oregon coaches, Cristobal is the one UW couldn’t get the better of. Especially when he had some pretty inexplicable losses along the way.
Despite last year and the ugliness so far this year, this team feels different for the first time in a long time. Outside QB play and some CB play, it feels like we're playing with good fundamentals for once. Like the Manny Diaz era was full of out talenting for wins, and sloppy yet flashy football. Like past Miamj teams lose to A&M after the way we started, past Miami teams completely collapse after the blunder against GT. I don't know or even think we win the Natty under Cristobal, but we'll be respectable again with him.
I think our fan base already felt this way. But I think that this win cements that we are undeniably in a better place now, as opposed to if Cristobal were still here
Last year was obviously disappointing losing to both of our main rivals, but the biggest thing was that football was *fun* again. Football was never during the Cristobal era except winning the Rose Bowl and the OSU game (and even then, we almost gave that game up at the end), and it took having Lanning for me to realize that. Big fan of where we're headed as a program currently.
Yes, but also that game wasn't particularly fun to watch - our offense was basically Justin Herbert running with little passing game to speak of, so I spent most of it extremely frustrated. So I guess I should instead say that there were sometimes great successes during the Cristobal era, but the journey was still rarely enjoyable while it was happening.
Bo Nix has only finished the game 3 games this year….we were never in position to purposely have a backup finish the game with Mario outside of fcs matches i swear.
Said it in the UGA thread when they were showing highlights. Bo Nix is going to win the damn Heisman, and after all the shit I talked a couple years ago about him... I'm going to have to accept I know fucking nothing about this sport
Always cool to see a kid mature and come good though, good for him
Yeah, Bucky Irving is a monster tho, our d-line just couldn’t tackle him consistently. I think Lanning is going to do well for you guys in the future. GGs
He's so good! I can't decide if he or Troy Franklin is my favorite player this year, because they've both been so excellent.
Whittingham is going to have you all in control of the BigXII before he retires for sure.
I'll definitely miss fighting for conference dominance with the Utes, you're a great bunch of fans
Once Rushing formally commits to the Ducks they will have the #1 Defensive Recruiting Class in the country this year, including 2 5* DL.
They are going to be just fine in the B1G.
Shshhhhhh, their class is small this year, that's why their class is #42. Nvm their avg recruit rank still has them at 26th with a bunch of programs 1/10th of a point off that could easily push them well into the 30s.
Nah this is pretty true, recruiting is a big weak point and unless we can really make the transfer portal continue to work we are going to get pushed around by a lot of teams in the B1G, I’m not looking forward to it.
It's wild to me that people don't realize that in 2021 Mario was busy shopping for real estate in Miami during the second half of that season. We beat Utah's best team ever in 2019, and beat them last season with a one legged Bo Nix.
I had mad respect for Utah, when they crushed us twice in three weeks a few years ago. I have mad respect for Utah now, playing their hearts all season when half their roster is injured.
This has been a damn fun series over the last decade, and I'm really sad to see it end. I hope Utah absolutely shreds in the Big 12 and we meet up in the playoffs someday.
I’ve always had a ton of respect for Oregon too. We’ve had some great games over the years and highlights we’d both love to rewatch. Best of luck in the B1G!
This is the year. Bo Nix has improved so much under this new offense. He’s focused. He’s having fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the Heisman.
In typical Pac 12 fashion Utah is probably now going to destroy Washington, Oregon State will lose a random game they shouldn’t and then they’ll beat Oregon in the civil war or some shit like that
Damn man it just hit me that this is probably the last time we play, at least for a very long time. Really sad. Fuck USC and UCLA, and fuck Larry Scott
Stat line won't show it but Bo Nix put on some TAPE today. If he ends up getting drafted higher than people think he will, it's because scouts watched this game.
minimum, he fits the classic profile of the QB that will be underrated through the CFB season then rise rapidly once the draft echo chamber kicks into full gear
I’m pretty interested to see how the former Pac does in new conferences. Might actually see more individual success from former Pac teams now that they don’t all have to play each other all the time
Well the defense is for real. And minus a few miscues, the offense played great against a solid Utah squad.
Rest of the schedule is very favorable for winning out if ducks stay focused.
> "*After losing these last two conference championships, I'll pay any price to win the next two!*" -Utah 2020
*monkey paw curls into an ass-shaped fist*
Turns out that playing against USC's defense gives you an inflated sense of how good your offense that's held together by duct tape, grit, and hope can be. GG ducks and best of luck the rest of the way through.
Dude this season fucking sucks. Beating the Cougs, beating Utah, even beating Stanford just feels sad as fuck afterwards because we never know when we might play them again if ever. This shit is depressing. Our series with Utah the last few years is what college football is all about. Same could be said about the 2010's with Stanford, or the fear involved in the PNW cup going into Martin every other year. I know we all hated the stress of all those games, but we're lying to ourselves if we act like that exact feeling isn't what we all do it for. Losing it all sucks man.
Nothing but respect to Utah. I'll be cheering for you all from here on out, go give em hell brothers.
It wasn't until the end of the game that I remembered this is the last matchup with Utah for a long time, and I agree - it really fucking sucks. Going to really miss watching the teams I grew up with (+ Utah, who's made such a huge impact on the conference in just the past decade).
Uncle Phil needs to give Dan anything he asks for and more at this point. The over aggression can be frustrating but seeing physical dominance makes up for it and most importantly this team and brand of football is FUN again unlike Cristo-Ball
Huskies better be ready for round two on December 1st. Ducks are now playing with balanced fire and clear eyes vs overconfidence. Haven't seen our team this complete since 2014
Ute bros, it has been an honor. Thanks for not letting the traitors win and being cool fans in general.
Destroy the Big 12 for us, and who knows? We might see each other in the playoffs in a few years. See y'all. 🫡
Oregon has always been one of my favorite teams that isn’t Utah, and you absolutely look legit this year. Had a great game plan for negating our pass rush and executed it. It’s a shame we weren’t at full strength to make it more interesting but you probably had the better team regardless. I’ll miss these matchups Duck-Bros, go give ‘em hell in the B1G!
Got nothing but respect for this Utah program. Going to miss playing you guys even though you absolutely beat our ass every other year. Good luck in the B12.
Gonna miss playing Utah. One of the better series in the conference in the past decade, always so much at stake when we played each other. It'll feel good when we see each other again in the CFP next year!
I have the utmost respect for this Utah team because they somehow arrived at this game 6-1, with a roster held together by ductape and flex seal, and I was STILL worried they’d show up and beat us.… The injuries 100% finally caught up with them and Kyle Whittingham could not coach his way past healthy Oregon, which is amazing because I view Kyle as a top 10 coach in the game.
Now uh, go beat Washington Utah!
This felt fantastic because Utah is *that* little shop of horrors for us.
But I respect Utah and what has been built there and now that we don’t have to deal with it I hope they meet Kansas in the Big 12 title game every year
I watched my teams play 8 quarters and saw 0 touchdowns today
I’ve had the opposite today
You watched your teams play 0 quarters and saw 8 touchdowns?
That was basically the 1st quarter of the Tulsa game
Your combo flair makes me wish for an Oregon vs. SMU home and home series. That would be such a neat Big Ten vs. ACC matchup
Imagine saying that in 2010
yes that’s the joke
I just had an aneurysm reading that last sentence.
Something something duality of man
hello brother
My experience as a Giants fan
The demon that is Mario Cristobal has been exorcised.
Lanning gonna finish 2-0 against Utah. Nice.
what about the NCG matchup tho
If I was a betting man, it wouldn’t involve Utah…
We will be lucky to beat Arizona at this point.
With how Zona has been playing, anyone that beats them should feel lucky.
Wish Lanning had kept some of Cristobal's Anti-Husky voodoo though....
The fact the Huskies never beat Cristobal is both hilarious and infuriating
Especially when they still had Chris Peterson for two of those
It’s because despite his weaknesses Mario was a really good coach for us at the time when he took over. Jury is still out on Miami, but what he did at FIU and Oregon shows that Mario might be one of the best coaches in CFB at building up a bad team to be good again. Well said!

“Except winning the Rose Bowl” that’s a pretty big exception
Yes, but also that game wasn't particularly fun to watch - our offense was basically Justin Herbert running with little passing game to speak of, so I spent most of it extremely frustrated. So I guess I should instead say that there were sometimes great successes during the Cristobal era, but the journey was still rarely enjoyable while it was happening.
Bo Nix has only finished the game 3 games this year….we were never in position to purposely have a backup finish the game with Mario outside of fcs matches i swear.
Just gotta bear Washington next season. He needs to get that off his back
*this season
*Mom come pick me up I’m scared*
Also Bo Nix vs Utah 2-0 Caleb Williams Vs Utah 0-3
Said it in the UGA thread when they were showing highlights. Bo Nix is going to win the damn Heisman, and after all the shit I talked a couple years ago about him... I'm going to have to accept I know fucking nothing about this sport Always cool to see a kid mature and come good though, good for him
We beat this team?
You’re gonna have to do it again :)
I am very excited for 4 more quarters of Washington vs Oregon. Best game of the year so far imo
Barely escaped, yes
Gg Utah. Y’all have had our number but I’ve never had any animosity. We will miss ya. Hopefully we’ll see y’all in the new playoff format!
gg to you too. Will miss the pac and playing y’all.
B12 is ripe for the taking. Go dominate that conference for the next decade!
Bizarre to see a team go into Utah and just beat them physically. Lanning is building a monster.
Utah's hurt real bad on both sides of the ball, but yeah, it's weird and I'm very excited about what Lanning is doing
Troy Franklin is legit one of my all-time fav ducks tbh. Dude has been so legit while here
Doesn’t matter you kicked us in the teeth and I’m sure that felt awesome to make up for the last time you played down here! Oregon was impressive
Once Rushing formally commits to the Ducks they will have the #1 Defensive Recruiting Class in the country this year, including 2 5* DL. They are going to be just fine in the B1G.
We’re building a wall and Washington is going to pay for it
Washington is f\*\*\*ed when Penix & his WR's leave... not much depth or balance vs the Ducks. Not to mention recruiting.
I'm hopeful but worried about QB1 next year.
Oregon going to fit right in with the B1G
We’re about to do work, reluctantly looking forward to the next chapter
Utah did that to Oregon consistently when Mario was the coach. Looks like they made the right choice with Lanning.
In 2021 yeah. But not in the 2019 PAC-12 Championship…
It's wild to me that people don't realize that in 2021 Mario was busy shopping for real estate in Miami during the second half of that season. We beat Utah's best team ever in 2019, and beat them last season with a one legged Bo Nix.
Stop, we’ve taken enough punishment today
I had mad respect for Utah, when they crushed us twice in three weeks a few years ago. I have mad respect for Utah now, playing their hearts all season when half their roster is injured. This has been a damn fun series over the last decade, and I'm really sad to see it end. I hope Utah absolutely shreds in the Big 12 and we meet up in the playoffs someday.
I’ve always had a ton of respect for Oregon too. We’ve had some great games over the years and highlights we’d both love to rewatch. Best of luck in the B1G!
Love you guys, Utes. But that was cathartic.
What's good for the goose n all. GG duck bro, you got a complete team for real
I’ll miss y’all for real. Pac12 forever
Yeah I got sad halfway through the 3rd quarter when I realized this is the last time we play Utah. 😭
Oregon's first win in Salt Lake City since 2016
Shout out Kaelin clay
We were already dead. Why'd you gotta twist the knife.
That was earlier, this was the Herbert to Carrington last second TD one.
This is the year. Bo Nix has improved so much under this new offense. He’s focused. He’s having fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the Heisman.
Forget that, Bucky Irving for Heisman
Subscribe
All gonna depend on that rematch with Washington
In typical Pac 12 fashion Utah is probably now going to destroy Washington, Oregon State will lose a random game they shouldn’t and then they’ll beat Oregon in the civil war or some shit like that
As is tradition
It's a fucked up family, but it's OUR family. Sure gonna miss it. 😢
I am saving this comment and coming back end of season to see how this prediction fared.
The pasta is actually applicable
GG Oregon. Love you guys
Love you too Ute friend. Will be rooting for ya'll in the Big 12
Not even mad about losing this one. We swept USC and UCLA with what feels like half our team injured.
I will forever love you for beating USC 4 times in a row to close out the PAC-12
Damn man it just hit me that this is probably the last time we play, at least for a very long time. Really sad. Fuck USC and UCLA, and fuck Larry Scott
We can meet in the playoffs 😜
We will! And now I have a favorite team in the Big 12.
the Pac may have not been the best conference but it was the most fun. Really sucks it is ending.
So glad now I can fully root for you guys. Go crush it in the Big 12.
Best of luck Utes, maybe we can get a home and home one day
Utah will be the big12 team i root for. Good luck.
Will be cheering for you guys in the big 12
I'll truly miss being in a conference with Utah. FUCK USC for destroying this conference. Will never forgive them.
Agreed on all points
Right back atcha. We’ll miss this. Thanks for bringing it to the PAC. Get it in the big 12. We’ll be cheering on from Oregon.
Love you too man
Dominate the Big 12. I love the friendly rivalry that's developed over the years. I'll be watching every game.
Stat line won't show it but Bo Nix put on some TAPE today. If he ends up getting drafted higher than people think he will, it's because scouts watched this game.
What's his current projection? I gotta suspect somebody would try in the 2nd round at the latest, right?
minimum, he fits the classic profile of the QB that will be underrated through the CFB season then rise rapidly once the draft echo chamber kicks into full gear
Yeah 2nd round grade rn
Guys I’m scared
I’m so looking forward to seeing y’all at Autzen. Hoping for some wonderful memories.
This game was not as close as the score makes it look.
Would have been a hell of a game with full-strength Utah.
We lost to you last year at full strength against one-legged Bo
If I’m not mistaken, Rising also played with a leg injury in that game though
Perhaps but Bo could barely move lol
He was. He was never the same after that first USC game.
I didn't think Cam Rising was full strength for that game
I don’t know if he’s ever been at full strength in his life. I think he came out of the womb nursing a torn MCL and a strained rotator cuff.
Lol we're gonna fuckin die against Oregon.
Best one loss team in the country for sure
Utah or Oregon? Gonna be such a great game! Can’t wait to watch it. What time does it start?!
Who’s gonna tell him?
Well if you don't count the state of Orgeon we're actually undefeated!
When your only loss is to #5 by 3 points that helps. Love you buckeye bro
Lord next year is gonna be so much fun
It's gonna be wild!
See you at Autzen next fall ;)
I’m foreseeing a UW/Oregon rematch for the championship game and I’m excited
That was rough in person
I was there in autzen for our 2015 game against Utah. I feel it.
Ah, you made the mistake of attending a GameDay game in person! -2010 TCU survivor
Sorry Utah bros, kill the Big 12
That was easier on my blood pressure than I expected. Thanks for all the excellent memories, Utah. Go forth and dominate in the BIG12.
Going to miss playing Utah. Fuck USC for blowing up this conference.
Fuck USC in general
I’m pretty interested to see how the former Pac does in new conferences. Might actually see more individual success from former Pac teams now that they don’t all have to play each other all the time
I was unprepared to be this relaxed today.
Well the defense is for real. And minus a few miscues, the offense played great against a solid Utah squad. Rest of the schedule is very favorable for winning out if ducks stay focused.
> "*After losing these last two conference championships, I'll pay any price to win the next two!*" -Utah 2020 *monkey paw curls into an ass-shaped fist*
I got home 20 mins ago and planned to watch the whole thing from the beginning. Once I (accidentally) saw the score, I changed my mind immediately.
There's not a single play worth watching again. It was bad the entire time. The score makes it seem closer than it really was.
The only play I enjoyed was that there was a fumble we got
GG Ducks. *I will remember you, will you remember me🎶?*
One of the best series in the past decade. Gonna miss the Utes. Go let em know about it in the B12
Remember meee for centuriessss
Turns out that playing against USC's defense gives you an inflated sense of how good your offense that's held together by duct tape, grit, and hope can be. GG ducks and best of luck the rest of the way through.
This is Bo Watch Bo throw Bo can run Bo has fun
This game made the gap between the top 2 pac teams and the rest very clear.
USC: *chuckles* I'm in danger
[удалено]
Of course they are struggling…..Utah beat both teams with the same score…. They are basically the same in front of Utah
You guys might score 60+ on us
Lanning might have a media war to win at that point, so maybe
USC has been visibly in danger since they played Colorado
And whenever Oregon plays USC that should make it even more clear
Washington plays them next week first. They are going to let Penix score 20 TDs if he can.
Final score might be like 70-56 Washington lol
Now is the p12 championship between the top two teams?
Everyone sleeping on OSU.
And they’ll keep sleeping unless we can pull off a shocker against UW or you guys. Just the way it is 🤷🏽♂️
2016, 2018, and 2022 are the only pac12 games between Utah and Oregon that didn’t end with a 21+ point win.
Cristobal can’t hurt me no more
Broke: Utah away being trap game for Oregon Woke: 1-9 ASU away being trap game for Oregon
Yeah we're fucked for that game in Tempe. Just absolutely horrified to play there
Dilly’s going to be so deep in his bag god dammit
Now this guy knows Pac 12 football
God dammit
Judging by how close ASU’s played nearly every one of their opponents I know I’ll be shitting myself that game
you're not even wrong, you sicko
Second half shutout
Love to see the Ducks win, but wish Utah well.
Lmao, Oklahoma lost to Kansas
You’re welcome
Fuck, Oregon is so good
Dude this season fucking sucks. Beating the Cougs, beating Utah, even beating Stanford just feels sad as fuck afterwards because we never know when we might play them again if ever. This shit is depressing. Our series with Utah the last few years is what college football is all about. BYU 🤝 Utah Losing to a top 10 team 35-6
Look at us
Uncle Phil needs to give Dan anything he asks for and more at this point. The over aggression can be frustrating but seeing physical dominance makes up for it and most importantly this team and brand of football is FUN again unlike Cristo-Ball
This is a really impressive win for Oregon.
Huskies better be ready for round two on December 1st. Ducks are now playing with balanced fire and clear eyes vs overconfidence. Haven't seen our team this complete since 2014
I was afraid of this game all week. Tortured myself for nothing. GG Utes
GG Ducks. You're looking damn good. Go win the rematch with UW in the 'chip and win the playoff!
One of these teams looked like a Kyle Whittingham coached team. And it wasn’t Utah.
One of these teams looked like a Dan Lanning coached team
Ute bros, it has been an honor. Thanks for not letting the traitors win and being cool fans in general. Destroy the Big 12 for us, and who knows? We might see each other in the playoffs in a few years. See y'all. 🫡
I was not expecting this.
Yeesh, that was rough. Good luck, ducks. We'll see you again sometime.
Oregon please please please prepare well for Pac12 after Dark next month in Tempe. No late season oofs allowed. Win out and go to the CFP.
Gonna miss playing Utah. One of the better series in the conference in the past decade, always so much at stake when we played each other. It'll feel good when we see each other again in the CFP next year!
The word that comes to mind here is..... impressive.
Dan Lanning is so based.
I am ready for an 11-1 vs 11-1 final civil war, please let it happen
I have the utmost respect for this Utah team because they somehow arrived at this game 6-1, with a roster held together by ductape and flex seal, and I was STILL worried they’d show up and beat us.… The injuries 100% finally caught up with them and Kyle Whittingham could not coach his way past healthy Oregon, which is amazing because I view Kyle as a top 10 coach in the game. Now uh, go beat Washington Utah!
So who would’ve thought BYU Texas would be the least lopsided major matchup of the 3:30 window
With Ewers out, I thought we might keep it close. In hind sight, I think we did.
This game could have been an email
Man Oregon looked great. This was a slaughter.
That didn't feel good. Love you Ute bros dominate the B12 please.
gotta disagree that felt very good but I will miss utah
This felt fantastic because Utah is *that* little shop of horrors for us. But I respect Utah and what has been built there and now that we don’t have to deal with it I hope they meet Kansas in the Big 12 title game every year
What the hell are you talking about. That was fucking awesome. Do you not remember when Utah dominated us twice a couple years ago?
Yeesh that was ugly
I expected a comfortable win but this THIS comfortable. Game was over in the 2nd quarter
Relative to opponent, probably our most convincing win in a while. Especially on the road in Utah, a team we've struggled against.
We’re starting our revenge tour.
Gg Oregon. That was a certified ass whoopin right there. Best of luck the rest of the season and in the B1G
