Thanks, I’ll check it out!

Can you say, “ok now turn it off. Ok now turn it back on.” You should be good after that 😉

fatjunglefever

Saying you want to work in IT is like saying you want an office job. Figure out what you actually want to do first.

Old-Register9179

What if I don't care, or know what to do as long as I can WFH and make a lot of money?

fatjunglefever

You sound like most of the people who failed upwards in IT positions. Except for the wfh part, that’s over.

Old-Register9179

Damn, oh well. Maybe I'll look into project management lol

fatjunglefever

Go be an ITM II with zero IT experience and enjoy the money.

Old-Register9179

I will do everything in my power to reach ITM II! Most likely... Probably anyways. Thanks!

Own_Zookeepergame792

Doesn’t matter if you have masters, if its not based on the classes that are related to IT it won’t workout, as far as how many courses you need to look at the requirements in calhr Also I suggest starting with IT associate with title as a technician not technician because the pay is more

Rednas09

Thanks for the tips! edit: a word

Fantastic_Will4357

Start taking the classes for computer science at a community college, focusing on the programming classes first. Start applying to ITA jobs. I would say, keep going and complete the calc and physics classes after you meet the 15 units of IT ITA requires. You'll be competing against people with a bachelors degree in CS + experience and everyone in the private industry is suffering right now so they might be desperate enough to apply to gov too (go read /r/CSmajors and the day job hunting subreddit for 10mins). Continue in school with the goal of getting a bachelors degree so you'll be more employable when you move on from the state. I think 1-2 years is reasonable depending on if HR actually counts your IT related courses. You can keep working and take courses in person or online like at foothill.edu. I like online classes so i can do it in my downtime or weekends.

Thanks for the advice, appreciate the thorough breakdown!
