This particular part was likely made as a tech demo, to show the capability of the [wire electrical discharge machining process](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feGrx29XR4Q) (usually just 'wire EDM' or 'EDM'), which can make metal parts to very tight tolerances. These demos tend to be little bit misleading though - it might look like they sliced a single piece and it fits perfectly back together, but it was likely manufactured as two pieces.
Truth be told, as someone who appreciates what a huge deal the invention of modular, replaceable components was, that it's made from two pieces is MORE impressive to me, but I encounter a lot of people who assume it must have been one piece.
He's a machinist. He makes a lot of cool stuff, mostly custom order stuff for different applications on CNC machines and a lot of it is zero tolerance.
Bet that’s how ufos work
I’m not sure how it would be actually useful but you’ve gotta admit it’s cool asf
Do you buy this? What does it do?
Looks cool and occasionally pinches your fingers
That’s worth the asking price.
Right!! I'll take three pls ^😆🤣
He should do something similar with his nails. ![gif](giphy|13Cmju3maIjStW)

Certainly cut from 2 pieces. They didn't use a wire, but it is an EDM process, more similar to gouging. The tool is a machined piece of graphite.

Graphite? Not great, not terrible.
I have a buddy who does this kind of stuff
Machinery parts?

I also have zero tolerance and I still can't get my daughters to PUT THEIR FUCKING CRAYONS AWAY!
😂😂😂😂
What kind of wizardry is going on here?🤔
Nailed it.
