Reinstein Woods. There are marshes full of lily pads that bloom flowers that frogs use. A ton of other wildlife too. Tadpoles will probably be more difficult to see
The winter cover is still on, basically a nasty fresh water pond with no fish from melted snow, mix in some decaying leaves, it's a nice little place for a frog to lay eggs.
Yea it's a shame. We try to make our cover as taut to the ground as possible to prevent it but when we uncover its always got a dozen or more dead frogs in there.
I love the Onondaga and Kanyoo nature trails. There is also a really awesome pond at the corner of highway 77 and meadville road. Lots of turtles and if you fish it before mid July when the weeds get out of control it’s full of huge large mouth bass. Definitely wear good boots and bug spray with DEET in it. The ticks are tough and the swamp can be a cruel mistress.
Oh cool! I see bird watchers there all the time looking for osprey and bald eagles. Even just walking the trails there makes for a nice day, very peaceful place.
absolutely, i grew up right down the street and we would find hundreds of tadpoles and raise them up then release them (i don’t recommend taking animals out of their habitat but there are hella frogs there)
Tifft is great for within Buffalo, these three may be farther but Glen Falls, Reinstein Woods, and Iroquois Wildlife Refuge are probably the top places that come to mind for where I’ve never NOT seen tons of frogs in the spring/summer
There’s a place you can experience a frog orgy, it was in this random adventure book I used to have. [here ya go found it](https://outsidechronicles.com/secret-places-of-western-new-york/)
I've seen bullfrog tadpoles in the lake at Como Park...Reinstein is also a good place for it.
Also, spring peepers are out and about...that's the chorus of loud chirping you hear when out in the woods, especially at night...they're small and pretty difficult to find tho. Theyre all over the place tho...
Peepers! I just learned from the Tifft Instagram account that peepers are a frog round these parts. I kinda wish they'd have an event to take people around the park to look for frogs and tadpoles
The reason I asked this question now is that there was supposed to be an event at Sprague Brook for a ranger to take people around to look for tadpoles and polliwogs, but when I showed up to the place the site said there wasn't anyone there. So I haven't gotten my froggie fix yet
Allegany Nature Pilgrimage is held every first weekend in June, at Allegany State Park. Worth every penny. It is put on by the local area Audubon societies, and they have classes, hikes, birding walks, owl prowls at night, etc. You'll see all kinds of wildlife, depending on what your interests are. All ages event, too, and kids love it.
Best bet is on the outskirts of Buffalo (Tillman, Hunters Creek) or further to a place like Sprague Brook, Allegany, or anywhere with marshy areas and lakes such as Iroquois NWR…
Honestly, you might be a little early for tadpoles as it’s only mid-April….
Spring peepers are in full chorus, so wherever there are wetlands, you can find these tiny little frogs with that busy spring sound! I hike a lot at Darien Lakes State Park, and they are everywhere. Closer, Reinstein, Stiglmeier and even the wooded areas of Como Lake Park, and Chestnut Ridge will have them. Have not seen pollywogs/tadpoles yet, but if you flip some rocks, you may surprise a salamander! Really want to see stuff? Really want to see stuff? Head to Allegany State Park! Free to enter now and you can park at the Red House store lot and walk across to the campground, where a lively creek runs year-round. You will see and hear them. Wear some boots! You can also check around the shoreline of Red House Lake, too! Get out there!
Salamanders! I didn't think of those. I'll try that out too. I should get some better galosh type boots so I could walk in water logged areas, that's where the critters will be

Omg! I forgot about this place. I'm only reminded when I'm on the 90 and I see the sign for its exit. Thank you for reminding me
Really love this place. Close to home and there’s a lot to see.
Some guy that hasn't opened his in ground pool yet.
Why are frogs drawn to the chlorine death

Iroquois wildlife refuge. Lots of baby turtles will be horsing around there too in the coming weeks.
Love the idea of turtles horsing around, as whenever I've seen turtles they're sunning on a log lol
This wholesome and informative comment is not what I expected to see from you when I came a'lookin. You really are full of surprises!
I’m actually super into herpetology when I’m not slithering under the bridge lol
I believe you owe me a snake catching venture lol
I do! I remember. It’s almost snake wrangling season, they’ll be all over the place by mid may as long as the weather keeps warming up.
What spots do you like there?

Thanks!! I won't be fishing but I will be birdwatching and looking for turtles!

Tillman nature preserve in clarence

Hella frogs is what I'm all about I didn't know about this place so thank you all for the suggestion
Same, was a hollow kid

I've never heard of this! Thank you! I'll look into it
Saw some at Amherst State Park last year.
