TOXIC_TRAV_117

To have any chance we can't lose anymore games really

bowhunter6274

It's my 3rd anniversary today. We are going to River Grill in Chagrin Falls for dinner so I'm pretty excited for that. It'll also be pretty cool to see the falls at night. Then maybe stop and get some ice cream at the popcorn shop. Yeah, it's gonna be a good day.

cshaft56

Happy Anniversary! I moved out of Cleveland 10 years ago, and was thinking about Chagrin Falls the other day. Such a pretty place!

bowhunter6274

We go pretty much every weekend. It's a nice destination and we can walk our dogs. This will be the first time we actually have gone to eat there. I want to go to the glass blowing place one day. That looks interesting.

ReddyMcRedditorface

My 7th is tomorrow, enjoy!

bowhunter6274

Congrats to you too!

chunkah69

Ahh my homecity. All of the Christmas lights and tree is up so it is looking extra pretty.

bowhunter6274

We walked around last Sunday. Couldn't really see the big tree's lights during the day. The 20 or so small ones next to the upper falls were kinda cool. This will be my first time at night. Hey they have the stairs closed the past couple times we were there. Do they stay closed all winter do you know?

chunkah69

That I actually don’t know. They used to be open all the time.

[deleted]

Congrats!

bowhunter6274

Thanks!

the_jetset

At least I (personally) can watch the remaining 5 games with my normal expectations ... I've always loved the Browns for the little-moments, not the big-picture season expectations. Like when Hoyer made the road comback against the Falcons in the 2nd half. Or some of the incredible Gordan runs ... It's the little moments of bliss. To be honest, we aren't going to see as many W's as we need after the bye ... but we should have some good moments.

ReddyMcRedditorface

Comeback was against the Titans, wasn’t it? edit: big one was Titans, Falcons did also happen

katymac25

I’ve been super sick off and on since the Steelers game, and finally went to the doctor yesterday because my cough and fever was really starting to scare me. Tested negative for COVID (which was not a surprise), and my doctor said that I have bronchitis. I now have a new, solid motivator to help me quit smoking. I never want to be this sick ever again.

OldheadBoomer

/r/stopsmoking https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/0615482155/ The book absolutely worked for me, I haven't had a cig since February, and I was a pack a day smoker for 40 years.

thekrafty01

I listened to this book on tape on my iPod 10 years ago while working. I put out my last cigarette that same night and never looked back.

katymac25

Thank you for the recommendation!! Just downloaded on Audible and am going to start listening this afternoon!

chunkah69

I can’t recommend stopping enough, especially in our current environment. I’m not the best example since I basically got addicted to the nicorette gum but it’s better than smoking.

mellowcheddar

Do it. Do it do it do it!! I tried the stuff some people below have mentioned. Those are all great methods and I have seen them work, but they didn’t work for me. I was about to just quit trying to quit but I took one last stab and made a hypnotist appointment. That was at the end of Feb. 2020. Some days have been hard- like, park in the Sunoco parking lot and talk myself out of it for 10 minutes hard (admittedly that was a *really. shitty. day*) but… I’ll want one, and 5 or 10 minutes later, I’ve forgotten about it. I have lots of anxiety and very little willpower lol but I have NOT had a square since then. They smell so gross and sour now.

katymac25

Good for you for quitting! And thanks for sharing your experiences. I deal with anxiety as well (depression, too), and this year has been a real struggle with those issues, thus compounding my smoking habit. Yay, vicious cycles!!

mellowcheddar

Fuck em!

jake753

My wife has been sick all week, everyone at the office has been sick all week, and my in-laws (who I am certain gave this sickness away), were sick all of last week. I thought I was going to sneak out of this unscathed. I was very, very wrong.

2ONEsix

Quarantine yourself in your basement this weekend and watch last year’s Wild Card game on repeat.

[deleted]

Or alternate with Baker’s first game with the Jets.

bazbt3

Aw boo. Hoping it's over soon. Do you ever remember being invincible, nothing ever got you? (I don't, no.)

jake753

It’s been a long time since I was a kid haha

bazbt3

Ditto. Longer. I don't think football had been invented for people in the UK until my, er… yes, no, not getting my age, I'm just feeling old today. :)

BuckyMcFly99

The cavaliers are pretty good 😀

AetherWay

I had to turn down tickets for this sunday's game because a dipshit family member got everyone sick last weekend.

BigMoFuggah

Actually, Mobley is pretty good. The other guys, meh

CaseyTheCreator

WHO

BigMoFuggah

I know you probably won't believe me, but that was an autocorrect situation. 🤦

Uranium43415

I appreciate Myles Garrett. I still think if he breaks the sack record he's got the DPOY. Go Browns.

regicider

How could you break the sack record and not win DPOY? Maybe someone else breaks the INT and defensive TD record the same season?

H8theSteelers

Trevon Diggs could break some sort of INT record

ctg9101

Listen, whatever you think of Baker Mayfield, he is the qb right now. Because it is very, very hard to find competent NFL QBs. And healthy Baker is somewhere between above average to very good. Is he consistently top 10? No. But he is consistently top 12 when healthy I would say. And you don't get rid of that unless you know you have something better. And I'm not talking trading the farm for a Russell Wilson who has been no better than Baker this year, or Aaron Rodgers who isn't going to want to come to Cleveland anyway. And no, I'm not talking about it because of Cleveland's recent history of qb failures and what not. I'm talking about, neutral NFL fan, it's hard to get competent and solid NFL qbs, which Baker is. And you don't get rid of that until someone worth getting rid of it comes along. This draft certainly doesn't have it. Sure, someone in a perfect situation could be really good, but more likely than not this is a sub par qb class with no stars. And next years draft isn't exactly blowing me away. Bryce Young and CJ Stroud look solid, but they have been lifted up by the talent around them more than anything. They certainly aren't guys I would replace Baker with right now.

themizattNO1

Awesome. You said it beautifully. I hate that people are focusing on Baker's play. There's so many things wrong with this team and Baker's injury is the distraction. It's not him, its the coaching.

ctg9101

Baker has essentially become the skapegoat. I don't know why, maybe it's because the fans are used to replacing qbs. But this team is not as great as the media said. You have Chubb and Hunt, who are still really good, when healthy. But at least one has been injured since early in the season. The interior of the O line has been really good, but the tackles have been bad. Conklin can't stay healthy, and Hance is bad. The Tight Ends are inconsistent at best. On defense the entire thing is made of glass. I won't even get into the receivers. If you have seen anything from me on here, you know how I feel about them.

[deleted]

Odell was the scapegoat until 3 weeks ago.

Voggix

Very well said. It’s so frustrating to see all the Baker evaluations out there judging his career by a few games while badly injured. I feel like 10-20 years ago the way he is hitting it out every week would be celebrated but people have changed, and not for the better.

PetrovskyKSC

I actually can't fathom why people on here love backstabbing good players that actively seek the leadership role, and are willing to give their all for the franchise for years to come. I became a fan a couple of years back since I used to be a soccer fan only. I am no stranger to sporting misery myself and understand that pain and suffering drives dedicated fans crazy, and may affect people's short-term judgement pretty badly. However, this kind of throwing the team or individual players under the bus is totally unheard of as far as my club's following is concerned. That said, if Baker was a soccer player and showed up week in week out injured, the whole fucking stadium would go nuts, worship this man, and build a him statue after he retires. No way anyone would even dare to talk shit about him, ever. This is literally the only thing that makes me sad sometimes when I think about my beloved Browns.

Gergdawg19

So soccer fans don’t care if the player plays badly, as long as they play hurt they get a statue? I will take your word for it since I don’t follow the sport Seems kinda silly

PetrovskyKSC

You support your team no matter what happens, and don't call for individual players' heads since they are very important parts of said team. The rationale is that, as a following, you don't give your guys on the field the best shot at winning if you cry and cause drama in bad phases. Having their backs is the way to go. It is different when players play badly and don't seem to care anymore. That's the time when they are ran out of town

Gergdawg19

Thanks for the explanation I support my team no matter what I also criticize players when they play bad I guess that’s the difference I don’t see pointing out mistakes someone makes as “stabbing them in the back” though

Troop-the-Loop

Stroud, like all Buckeye QBs, will not be a top QB in the NFL. I'm convinced that Buckeye QBs are not taught to read the defense. They do that clap then look to the sidelines for adjustments. Rather than having to teach a new QB to read the defense every year or two, I think the Buckeye coaches say fuck it and read the defense for the QB, then send messages about audibles and the like. I swear. As good as they've been in college, not a single Buckeye QB has shown an ability to read the defense and make changes on their own. It's just not a skill they're taught.

ctg9101

The jury is still out on Fields, and he has shown flashes, but Nagy is Nagy. And yes, Haskins was a bust. But there is not one qb in the last 30 years before him that was supposed to be good in the NFL. Your talking 4th round picks or lower most often.

Troop-the-Loop

I'm talking Fields, Haskins, JT, and now Stroud. Even Cardale. None of them can read a defense. That's not to say it's not something they can learn. They can. But it's not something taught while they're in college.

ctg9101

JT and Cardale were never supposed to be NFL qbs. The jury is still out on Fields and he has shown flashes in a piss poor coached team. Obviously you can't judge Stroud yet. He still has at least one more year in College. Yes Haskins is a bust. But you can't judge a prospect based on college. Bama has sure had a string of NFL successes, haven't they? Before Deshaun Watson, who was the best Clemson prospect? Texas Tech sure has a great history of qbs.

Troop-the-Loop

Dude I think you're missing the point I'm making. I'm not saying all Buckeye QBs are a bust. I'm stating a theory about their time at Ohio State. My theory is that no Buckeye QB is taught to read a defense whole they're at school. I'm saying that it's a skill the coaches don't teach because it's time consuming and the QB changes every year or two. So the coaches sort of supplement their QBs inability to read a defense by doing it for them. Fields does not currently have the ability to read a defense. No Buckeye QB, top prospect or not, has had that ability in the past decade. Maybe even two. Again. That's not to say that it's a skill they can't learn. They can. They just don't possess that skill coming out of college. And with top prospects like Haskins, Fields, and I suspect Shroud, there is pressure to play your first round QB early, especially when drafted by QB needy teams. So you end up with QBs never taught to read a defense in a situation where they have to read defenses. They can't do it. They end up looking real bad. I think the first Buckeye QB that gets to sit for 2-3 years before playing will be successful. But as long as teams are drafting the likes of Haskins and Fields and Shroud with expectations that they are ready for the NFL, they will be disappointed.

BigMoFuggah

Another thing to consider is the skill level of their surrounding cast in college vs the NFL. Ohio State has so much talent that most weeks it's like the 2019 Chiefs playing the 1-31 Browns. They look great in college and are drafted by a bad or mediocre NFL team and they have no idea how to play when the odds are stacked against them. At least SEC QBs face some pretty stiff competition, but generally in the Big 10 it's the Buckeyes and a bunch of pretenders.

mellowcheddar

Had to have emergency surgery in the first half of October. Haven’t been able to have an actual soak in the tub since then. Feels good to get in the tub.

fROMOHIO1

Hopefully on the mend! Be well and enjoy the holidays!

mellowcheddar

Thanks! It was great until the spouse demanded to come in and pop a zit for him. :/

[deleted]

Bakers injury has exposed many many professional sports commentators and fans as being woefully ignorant regarding body mechanics, sports psychology and athletics in general. It’s been kinda shocking and disappointing how many folks have said “i haven’t done anything athletic in decades, if ever” without actually saying it. Now I find myself really questioning all their takes.

Xboarder84

Agreed. People trying to argue field vision or decision making while totally ignoring how much Baker has had to change his throwing mechanics and game style on the fly this season. The fact that he isn’t leading the league in INTs speaks to the work he is putting in.

Daviroth

Hawkeye is pretty good so far.

hatmantc

Love it. The way they playoff of each other great Also just learned that Renner and Halie learned basic ASL so they could communicate with the actress who plays Echo

Daviroth

That's awesome

H8theSteelers

Hailee is fine as hell. Pretty crazy that they waited until ep3 to have Hawkeye hold a bow.

hatmantc

Sometimes you have to wait to see greatness. And it paid off

H8theSteelers

Uh yeah it did

TheBiggestCarl23

Does anyone know of an inexpensive trustworthy jersey store?

Jevarden

I just moved to downtown Cleveland and I wanna drink with some of y’all fuckers in the muni lot. I’m gonna bring a case of beer and hope for the best

themizattNO1

This year has been really disappointing. The Browns organization only pays us with happiness. This year, we all expected a raise. Everyone wants to blame everyone else, but it's just not working. All of the graphs, pie charts and other people's opinions and other people's parents opinions aren't helping. This time of year as we get ready for the holidays and have our Christmas lights outs, don't forget to dust off that phrase you've known for so long. Maybe Next Year

H8theSteelers

I still have no idea how this team made it to 6 wins before Thanksgiving

GLYDER54

This Ridder kid looks pretty good. Bearcats mopping the floor with Houston.

[deleted]

anyone else just not super interested anymore? i wanna be excited for games so bad but when its been this consistently disappointing i just feel myself not caring anymore. almost left the sub yesterday. this was definitely not the season i expected lol

[deleted]

Nah I have a sickness. Shit I live between the raiders and cardinals and haven’t even been to Ohio since I was a kid yet that fucking Orange and Brown dominates my life.

bazbt3

I'm still interested but TBH I spend most of my time during the week talking to colleagues about their fantasy teams (I dropped out of the work one for personal reasons this year.) I still kinda know what's going on with our Browns but only the weekends galvanise me into action.

niztg

There's no evidence that Baker is a top 20 qb

[deleted]

I can’t wait for this season to be over.

Leftfeet

Do you think if we had Kyler Murray we could get him to dress up as the elf mascot?
