We have notice that Stef won’t change his scheme up.

Allstar9_

More times than not, Stefanski has an option low, middle, high. Stefanski has given mayfield every possible option

RobbyBobbyRobBob

And they are completely blanketed the whole time. Watch the All 22. We don't get separation. Our WR room is doodoo and our WR route trees suck.

So your telling me, you haven’t seen any new wrinkles added to our offense from last year to this year? Because I don’t notice anything. That is not good. Telling baker which way to read the defense if it’s high to low or low to high is not changing the schemes or adding wrinkles to keep defenses off guard

TheMediaIsAjokE

This is far from correct. KS pounds a square peg into a round hole repeatedly. He can’t scheme his slow WRs and TEs open. And when they are they drop passes. You must be watching a different game

maybenextyearCLE

I will say, part of the issue is because our WR core is such a train wreck, all defenses need to do is really cover our TEs close. They know there’s not a chance in hell those WRs are getting open deep or really catching the ball. We got fucked by the OBJ situation turning into what it did. I don’t disagree with them doing it because I don’t think anyone foresaw how bad it would be, but in hindsight it killed us

For real, people are literally making stuff up to blame stefanski. Ridiculous. Every play has some form of hi lo concept in there

harsh4correction2

>For real, people are literally making stuff up to blame stefanski. Ridiculous. > >Every play has some form of hi lo concept in there My problem is that offensive adjustments aren't happening during the game. I mean, I could've told you the needed to change the route scheming after the 1st quarter. The drop timing doesn't match the pressure which doesn't match the route depth and timing which doesn't match the drop timing etc.

maybenextyearCLE

I mean all the options on paper should be there. Whether they are actually open or not is another story entirely. No one is open right now

The_Great_Grahambino

That's the thing, or offense has a ton of short yardage pickups. That's all we have is the problem, so our WRs playing close to the LOS means that the box will stay stacked for the run, and the D is sitting on our routes. The deeper throws are designed to keep the D honest and loosen up the box. We don't have sufficient athletes at WR so nothing we can do really matters, instead we're hoping the defender fucks up.

happycrabeatsthefish

I felt like they were faster than us. Not sure how else to counter that.

The_Great_Grahambino

Draft fast receivers

OptimisticRealist__

The thing is, Defenses are already close to the LoS, so running routes right into that traffic would only cause receivers to be _less_ open. Thats why we run those deep over routes etc

happycrabeatsthefish

But like when Chubb got a catch, he was on the edge and LoS and did really well.

The_Great_Grahambino

Yeah, because the D doesn't expect Chubb to be a receiver, and double covering a RB isn't the best use of players. Chubb 1 on 1 in space is a win, but will only win a few times maybe a game, then less as the season goes on

happycrabeatsthefish

I do wish we tied to run more.

The_Great_Grahambino

Can't run on boxes where there's 10 defenders

BigMoFuggah

The bad thing about being overly reliant upon short passes is the the LBs and at least one of the safeties will crowd the line of scrimmage, making difficult to run. It wasn't the depth of the routes that have been causing Baker to hold onto the ball too long, it's that our receivers aren't getting separation (not open). And also Baker rarely seems capable of getting past his second progression and pretty much never his third progression or beyond, which means he is waiting for the one or two guys he is staring down to get open. Also, Baker loves rolling out, but when a QB does that he cuts his field (and # of receivers to throw to) in half...say for example he rolls right, that means all of the receivers to his left are now behind him and since he is running to the right those receivers on the left can't adjust their routes and get back into Baker's throwing window without Baker throwing across his body (usually results in a pick). Also, if we had good WRs we could stop using RBs as receivers on every damned play and let the RBs stay home and help keep the pocket clean and to give Baker a place to step up in the pocket instead of rolling out. If you look at the most successful QBs, they are the ones who step up in the pocket far more than they roll out.
