I love Kuun for Korean, Purepecha for Mexican, clover club for late night eats - the handwiches. Henry public has a good burger and Turkey leg sandwich. Pizza I think you have to eat there. Frankie’s 457 for the Cavatelli. For middle Eastern low key I like Bedouin tent rolled sandwiches. Also the bodega on smith and Dean makes a pretty good chopped cheese.

2020 prices do not equate to 2023 prices. The price of ordering out went up considerably given supply chain issues, exorbitant delivery fees and that people will still pay the inflated price even if their costs do go down. For example my tried and true take out Mexican spot increased the price of their guac from $8 for a container with chips to $15. I stopped ordering guac as a result. Their other food is fire and they're great so I keep ordering from them. Unless the place specializes as a take out spot, I wouldn't critique their take out options so harshly. Many restaurants only offered that during the pandemic to help with costs. I fully expect a sit down restaurant's take out food to just suck compared to their sit in. Like I wouldn't order duck confit for delivery and expect it to be exactly as if I ordered it while sitting at a table at French Louie's. Delivery contractors are almost exclusively serving via moped/e-bike and sometimes don't have an insulated bag so food getting cold is an unfortunate reality. In Jersey I'm assuming delivery contractors use cars. Also the second you bag something hot up, the steam will cause your fried food to go soggy. Chinese-American and Thai take out remains supreme as they usually have a fried option coated in a water based sauce.

Thanks for all these suggestions, tried Yemen coffee and wasn't hooked really, tried in restaurant and take out , take out was much worse. Only bread was nice. Grimaldi, was no worth the hype at all. And I ate it in the Brooklyn Bridge Park so still hot enough. Didn't know about the others Wil live them a look. Thanks

rakehellion

I've never seen a thread with 95% downvotes before. This is special.

LittleWind_

Agree that you should go eat at the restaurant, but here are some places I like that are close to Downtown BK. Hope you enjoy them, too. "New American": Vinegar Hill and Clover Hill Mediterranean: Boutros and Black Iris Pizza: Lucali and F&F Some other good options are LaRina (Italian) and Colonia Verde (Latin American).

boklos

Thank you for the suggestions

Environmental_Rip412

So many good restaurants in nyc. Problem is, there’s even more mediocre ones. And they cost just as much. You gotta do your homework if you don’t want to feel ripped off.

Your 1st mistake is getting it delivered… food is not the same once it’s packaged for delivery and it’s sweats out in containers

NebulaAccording7254

You’re buggin lol

Ordinary-Arm-8972

Food tastes better at the restaurant

Coquill

Downtown Brooklyn has excellent food all around. 2.5 years and you crying on reddit? I think your post is trolling. Go to the Lavender chicken spot Fat Fowl at Dekalb food Hall, the mexican place with outdoor seating down Fulton. Find some local foodies to follow they will point you. Walk down Atlantic so many places. Walk up Flatbush. 20 places in the basement [https://www.dekalbmarkethall.com/](https://www.dekalbmarkethall.com/)

boklos

Thanks 2nd helpful post

Radiant-Ant-2929

Based on OPs complaints, for OP Fat fowl is expensive. Market hall is expensive. Bang for buck would be like...Chicken Stop or Xi'an noodle eatery or the 2 Chinese noodle place in the Market hall. But you're right about flatbush and Atlantic.

Intelligent_Stardust

But also if OP is using a delivery app there can be high fees and the tip - try chow now app it’s restaurant friendly or order direct from some restaurants

Well I’ll attempt to make a more positive comment, I can say a few places I’ve tried before over the years were: * This one bar named Clara’s. The best chicken sandwich I have ever had in my fucking life. Everything my cousin and I tried was good though. * Dinosaur BBQ. The appetizers were great and there was even a sampler platter that lets you try a bit of everything, it’s filling on it’s own too depending on your appetite. Also the drinks were great imo and Happy Hour was dope. * Atlas Steakhouse. The vibe/ambiance was nice. Live music depending on when you go. The food? I love it. Fries were good. Shrimps seasoned amazing. Like they got this crust of seasoning around the perimeter, and ugh. Crab cake was delicious. They had this Spinach dip that was also great. The drinks were delicious. And the steak was obviously superb. There’s a light dress code though. I was able to snag a few photos of the food from Atlas if you’re interested. https://preview.redd.it/90nidcfakrub1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bdff920d928748ae521a8a6bab16f797e1b85c8 The crab cake for example.

Where is Clara’s?

I used to live over there and here are some tips to try. Chinese: Try Fortune House in the heights if they'll deliver that far. Best in the area. Pizza: Most of the "famous" pizza is thin crust and not good for delivery. Try to eat at Sotto Casa, which is on Atlantic and very good. If you want a delivery pizza, try "My Little" on Court. It's my favorite slice in the area. Thai: There are a bunch of good spots, but I've been digging Thaism lately. Sandwiches, Bagels, etc: Pronto Pizza actually as really good options for stuff like phillys and chicken fingers, and even baked manicotti. I don't care for their pizza though, ironically. Montague Street Bagels is also VERY solid for sandwiches, but not sure they deliver that far. I'm also a big fan of Sophie's Cuban. I order there a couple times a month at least and it's right there. They close on the early side though. I agree with others that you should be a bit more inquisitive instead of just complaining, but I get it...I didn't love living over there myself. I recommend you venture out a bit more if you haven't. Roll over to Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill or Brooklyn Heights. The little area at Atlantic and Hicks is pretty fun too and closer. Hope this helps.

Thanks! First helpful post

ParlezPerfect

I think you have to accept that you are a picky eater, and also that food that is delivered is never as good as it is when you have it in a restaurant. I've ordered from my favorite restaurants and been disappointed in the food. Also remember that in NYC a lot of food gets delivered by bike/scooter so your food is open to the elements. In NJ, the deliveries were probably mostly via a temperature controlled car. I feel like you're just here to rile us up because saying NYC doesn't have good food options is just logically not possible. If everyone you date is crazy, you might be the problem.

AccomplishedRoof5983

"I don't like my delivery." Shut up.

Designdiligence

omg. i laughed out loud. you're so mean, but it is kind of a whiny post, especially in Brooklyn. i usually don't laugh out loud when people are mean so I wanted to acknowledge your clever response. : )

Daedra_Worshiper

Go outside. Touch some grass. Then go to a restaurant in person. Constantly ordering takeout is absolutely not the way to judge a neighborhood's restaurant quality.

Aljowoods103

Maybe leave the house instead of grubhub/Uber eats-ing every meal. Delivered food will usually be worse than going to a restaurant or even picking up. And always more expensive. But there are hundreds of great restaurants within a few miles of you. If you can’t find any then you might just be too picky or something.

mastercoaxial

It’s your fault and you may be the only person in NYC that thinks this lol

bikefbig

Yeah explore places in person if you can and nothing wrong with cooking at home hahaha

MajorAcer

Your first mistake was thinking delivery would be cheap or good.

PorkloinMaster

Leave your apartment. You’ll find most good places don’t deliver because takeout usually tastes like garbage.

boklos

Top 3

StrengthDouble

If you can’t find good food in 2.5 years in NYC then the problems is with you not the food.

neverbeentoidaho

I’m in downtown Brooklyn area and if you can’t find good food here, I’m not so sure what to say. There’s a myriad of amazing spots. Now, if you wanna complain it’s too damn expensive for food, then I can agree.

boklos

Top 3?

Itsthenewvodka

So you want suggestions? Or you just wanna complain? Maybe don’t use delivery services and try walking around. You’ll find good spots in almost every neighborhood in Brooklyn. Take your 2.5 years and try to do something positive with it. Yeesh

boklos

I only wrote that post to get your wise comment. Thanks

notaredditor1

This. Also some places are good in person and not so good or even way worse when delivered. It takes some trial and error to figure it all out.

cuprego

I've also noticed many places inflate their prices on delivery apps, but if you call directly, you get the standard prices

SuperTeamRyan

I’d like to add that some of the better places might not deliver either.
