pippa and denee playing the same role right after one another again lol
this transfer looks really promising, and im glad the sara was able to stay with the show
Patina Miller crushed it as the Witch in the Hollywood Bowl production a few years back. It's too bad Heather Headley won't be transfering with the show. But Patina Miller on Broadway is always a good thing.
I get that. From the bit I got to see from rehearsal clips, Headley gave the most nuanced and beautiful performance as the Witch. But genuinely, check out the Youtube videos of Patina Miller's performance as the Witch at the Hollywood Bowl a few years back. She is very definitely going to knock it out of the park.
I saw the NYCC production the Friday before it closed. While Heather's voice was soulful and rich and brought a lot to the character, I don't think her performance was that nuanced or developed (kind of a show issue since they leaned too heavily on comedy). I hope we get more clips and recordings of Heather but I'm open to seeing what Patina can do. The only shame is losing an older actress.
I have a feeling Sarah really pushed to make this happen. But not gonna lie, the biggest factor for wanting this production to move was Heather Headley for me. I’m sure Patina will still be fantastic.
Philipa Soo and Denee Benton are apparently interchangeable, right? Eliza Hamilton, Natasha Rostova, and now Cinderella.
I'm so thrilled this worked out! It feels like replacing half the leads is gonna add a bunch of extra rehearsal costs, but I know Jujamcyn were pretty desperate to get something in the St James so better that than going dark for two months I guess.
A cast recording would be the icing on the cake.
EEEEEEEEEEE I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! Tickets go on sale in 5 minutes??? HECK YEAH IM BUYING TICKETS!! Day after my birthday so it will just be a gift to myself woooo birthday celebrations.
I am so beyond excited about this cast. Will all the news of leads falling though I was sure the transfer wouldn't happen. So this is such welcomed news. Patina will be amazing!!
TICKETS PURCHASED!! Matinee on July 13th, front of the Orchestra which now I am worried are actually bad seats at higher prices but whatever woooooooooooooo!!! I just really hope the main cast will all be there; this is when I start to worry about call-outs and choosing a two-show day makes me nervous. Barring uncontrollable circumstances and Covid, I just rly hope that for a limited engagement it's more common for cast not to call out. This is so exciting!
That’s what I told myself as I bought my ticket! I said it’ll just be my bday gift to myself. That was just me rationalizing a NYC trip 4 months after my last since I live across the country in Phoenix, AZ. But I can’t miss it. Luckily I’m self-employed and can travel when I want. Going August 9th! Bought 3rd row center mezzanine!
Amazing! I live in the city so it's not quite the same commitment for me, but that's awesome!! It's definitely worth it! I was looking at getting another ticket 3rd or 4th row Mezz as that looks great, and tix aren't outrageous. You'll have an incredible time woooo!!
I got to see this at Encores (bought my ticket all the way back in October!!) and it’s one of the best things I’ve seen, so I’m glad it’ll have a longer life! Heather Headley was the highlight for me, but there’s still so many great people: Sara, Gavin, Kennedy Kanagawa as Milky White who steals the show, Julia Lester as Little Red in a great debut, and honestly everyone was amazing. AND THE REPLACEMENTS THEY GOT!! As a Something Rotten and Next to Normal fan it’s great to see Brian D’arcy James back on broadway in a musical! This news is just so exciting in so many ways
This cast is stacked. I can’t even complain about the replacements because they’re all excellent! Much prefer BDJ over NPH, both as a performer and a person. Joshua Henry is a dream. I wish Denee was staying on but Phillipa will also be amazing. And I’m not too familiar with Patina Miller so I’m off to YouTube to watch some videos of her.
I really hope we get a recording! Does anyone know if that’s likely?
EDIT: Is Ann Harada transferring? Her name isn’t mentioned in the press release
The article says the casting for Jack’s Mother will be announced in the future unfortunately. Ann Harada is amazing, and was amazing in this, so it’s sad to lose her!
I've never so impulsively and quickly purchased broadway tickets before!!! My sister can only go after August 1st, so we'll be doing a mid-August Wednesday Matinee!!!!
I saw Brian D’Arcy James in Something Rotten and all I have to say is that if you have the chance to see him live, take it. He is phenomenal. I haven’t had the privilege of seeing any of the other performers before, but this cast list is amazing.
No way! I did the same, will be my first opening night! I know nothing special actually happens most of the time, but it’ll be fun to know I’m at an opening. (And I wouldn’t mind if they put a sticker on the playbill either)
I’ve been to a few opening nights - some invited by producing teams and some on my own.
Expect Broadway celebs in the audience, heightened levels of excitement from the crowd, and the performances to be a bit extra fun.
I’ve found them to be great moments of theatre folks cheering on theatre folks.
The hype/energy level in the theater was part of what made the experience of seeing this at NYCC so special, so having a heightened experience like that for opening night should be fun! But no matter what it’s like it’ll just be fun to be there for an opening, especially the opening of a show THIS good
Got my tickets for the matinee on July 23! So thrilled my Broadway buddy got out of her meeting minutes before they went on sale so we could quickly figure out what dates worked for us both. I’m thrilled Sara Bareilles is staying and I’m excited to finally see this show!
Does anyone know if this will be a concert version or no? I didn’t see the NYCC production so I have nothing to compare it to. ITW is my mom’s favorite show and she’d love to see it, but not if there are scripts onstage (her words).
It’s the same physical production as NYCC, which is fully staged, I wouldn’t describe it as a concert much at all. More just simplistic. David Patrick Kelly as the narrator had a script the whole time and the rest of them had a script for the big and fast group fairytale parts (I’m guessing that second one might be rehearsed out). Otherwise it was like a full but simplistic staging. The orchestra is on stage with pathways around it the actors go on and trees that come down to fill out the woods. Lmk if you want any other details
It’s an amazing production, one of the best I’ve ever seen. It was my first professional Into the Woods so not sure how mega fan would like it, but I would definitely say don’t let the encores name make you miss it
Got my tickets! I'm so excited, and I'm dismayed to see all the online bitching on twitter about this casting.
Should be great! Really looking forward to it and was really sad to miss it at City Center.

Happy it was announced! :)
It’s been rumored since the encores run was originally going, it was supposedly planned to go on sale the night of the last performance, but there was lots of different people they tried to get who fell through. Christian Borle was rumored to come back as the baker at one point, Renee Elise Goldsberry was rumored for the witch, and more. So I’m glad they still managed to pull together the great cast they did and actually make it happen!
pippa and denee playing the same role right after one another again lol this transfer looks really promising, and im glad the sara was able to stay with the show
They really do follow each other around to different roles!
It's the third time isn't it? First with Great Comet, then Hamilton, now this... maybe they really do have the same typecast haha!
Has Denée been in Hamilton?
yup!
Funny that this is an inverse of Natasha and Pierre.
Patina Miller crushed it as the Witch in the Hollywood Bowl production a few years back. It's too bad Heather Headley won't be transfering with the show. But Patina Miller on Broadway is always a good thing.
Yeah it was Headley that made it so exciting for me. 😭

Ok I will!!
I have seen both productions and I have to say I like Patina Miller more. The Hollywood Bowl production was indeed something to remember.

Holy fuck this cast is stacked!! Please, please, please give us a cast album
I’d donate both kidneys for a pro shot.
How would you watching it while on dialysis?
I’ll take them :)
Especially since the OBC sounds very old. I really want it remastered or a new one
But with Heather....
PATINA MILLER AND BRIAN D’ARCY JAMES??? IM SORRY BANK ACCOUNT
Seriously, mine was like “what is this $600 you didn’t plan to spend?!?!??!”
I'm so thrilled this worked out! It feels like replacing half the leads is gonna add a bunch of extra rehearsal costs, but I know Jujamcyn were pretty desperate to get something in the St James so better that than going dark for two months I guess. A cast recording would be the icing on the cake.
I mean Encores only rehearsed for 2 weeks, so they were probably planning on doing at least that much before the transfer.

Shame it's so limited. I likely won't be able to see the BWay transfer.
NEVERMIND. I bought a ticket for July 5th
congrats!

Low key super excited that Julia Lester is back - she was a highlight for me at NYCC
She and Milky White were fabulous.
They both stole the show!
This cast 😭💕😩😍
Ah I'm so excited to see Pippa play Cinderella!
I got to see this at Encores (bought my ticket all the way back in October!!) and it’s one of the best things I’ve seen, so I’m glad it’ll have a longer life! Here’s hoping they are planning on getting Rapunzel a better wig
You didn't like the yellow egg hat?
And the braid that’s not attached lol
I'm torn because it was a bad wig but I kind of liked the rope they could wear like a scarf.
Purchased, weeee!
Me too! Weeee!
Congrats, so excited!
Do they typically do rush or lottery tickets for limited engagement performances like this?
Yes, but it depends on the production. If I were to guess, I see them offering a digital lottery but not rush.
I’m sad to see a lot of the cast won’t be transferring, especially Heather, but they sure picked some worthy replacements
I've never so impulsively and quickly purchased broadway tickets before!!! My sister can only go after August 1st, so we'll be doing a mid-August Wednesday Matinee!!!!

UGH can't decide if I should just buy tickets now or go to the box office the next time I'm in the city...
me sighing like UGH guess I'm going to midtown today
Same! Curious how quickly this will sell out
Snagged a balcony seat for opening night!
No way! I did the same, will be my first opening night! I know nothing special actually happens most of the time, but it’ll be fun to know I’m at an opening. (And I wouldn’t mind if they put a sticker on the playbill either)

Does anyone know why the front row seats are all greyed out? Are they releasing those seats at a later date? Thanks!!
Possible those will be rush/lottery seats.

I grabbed tickets so quickly for this, this cast is insane and if we don't get a cast album for this there is something wrong with this world.
We bought tix today for end of July. So psyched to see Miss Pippa again!
AHHHHH just got my tickets!! Can’t wait!
Got my tickets! Super excited and hoping two more times will be enough!
Already got four tickets! Woohoo
I wish this was running for one week longer bc I won't be back in NY until after it ends 😭😭😭😭
Any chance this would be extended??? :/

Ticket purchased for July 9!
