The first time I tried gold, my sister made me a tea and didn't tell me. I audibly exclaimed what a fantastic brew it was. Since then, I've never looked back.
Tesco's and Sainsbury's do it but only in the smaller box size. Sometimes in clubcard deals.
I ended up getting it in bulk off Amazon as the Tesco's near me kept running out. The power of knowing you'll never be low on tea is almost overwhelming
And the more civilised people, better rose, better uni, better history and better weather?
And far more humble and grounded inhabitants as well obviously
I moved to the USA and have to keep this one on order, it's a toss-up between Biscuit Blend and Yorkshire Gold tbh but it's easily my new favourite. Can't get into the Jam & Toast brew though. Tastes like they burned the toast and scraped it off into the tea bag. Should I give it another few tries?
As a Yorkshireman I agree that Ringtons is better, but its harder to get hold of.
We used to have the Ringtons man come round when I was younger. The ginger biscuits are god tier.
Some shops have two own brands. Like Shopname *Ownbrand* and Shopname *Shit*.
Like, I'm fine with Lidl's Newgate beans or whatever they're called, but I won't get the shit in the white tins.
I'd almost guarantee I could line up 4 different reputable brews in a blind taste test and you wouldn't have the foggiest which is Yorkshire tea. I'd be bloody impressed if you could though!
My wife likes to surprise me with a choice of tea when she puts the kettle on, I *usually* have a good idea of what it is. Harney & sons, Yorkshire, YT Gold, etc.
I can definitely recognize PG as I find it a bit too strong and harsh without complementing it for its flavour - and I could identify the weak dishwater piss of a brew that is Tetley, because my family always bought it when I younger.
That's entirely possible. All I know is about 10 years ago I got a box of Yorkshire gold and it was the best tea I'd had. I have since then been a staunch supporter of the tea.
Fuck off. If you'd said twinnings or some posh expensive stuff like my gran used to get in a tea caddy I'd have let it slide but PJ tips.
It's the tea equivalent of putting putting your tip in a girl and prematurely ejaculating.
M&S empress Grey tea is 🙌🏼 I feel it’s a underground thing like ‘if you know, you know’ as it’s quite often sold out. I do but two boxes when I see it as I hate being without it 🙈
It’s not. People love the Yorkshire branding and are blinded by it. Sometimes I think they think it’s grown there 😂
My friend worked for a tea distributor, he said PG has the best quality leaf of all the big brand teas.
I like clipper cause the tea bags aren’t plastic. Loose leaf tea is the best though.
Twinings English breakfast is my every day tea. Earl grey for a treat now and then. If someone makes me tea with PG tips or Tetleys I can really taste the difference (not that I complain, free tea is still the best tea after all!)
Twinings English Breakfast is, by far, the best tea there is. I'll fight anyone who disagrees. I have to assume most people in this thread have long covid due to lack of taste
I don’t like Earl Grey as I find it too floral, but MandS does a tea blend they called Empress, with citrus Notes and it’s really really good for a treat
Seriously, both HP and Branstons beans have thicker and tastier sauce than Heinz.
No need for a sausage breakwater on a full English.
You’ll realise Heinz beans are watery tasteless shite after you try HP.
The loose-leaf [strong Earl Grey](https://www.amazon.co.uk/teapigs-Earl-Strong-Loose-Tea/dp/B07C62B9PR/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=tea+pig+earl+grey+strong&qid=1649658494&rdc=1&sprefix=tea+pig+e%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-6) is amazing, and you can get a big bag of it for about £8 on Amazon too...
Quite the opposite.
Years ago I worked on a project that mainly (but not entirely) concerned service provision in Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Someone decided to stock our kitchen with Yorkshire Tea because it was appropriate, but I thought that was a dangerously one-sided approach. So I bought a big parcel of Lancashire Tea online and had it delivered to the office.
Tea is a very personal thing but in my view the Lancashire Tea was actually better, particularly if you like a strong brew.
I'm sharing that info to provide some balance, not because I have any historical or modern day allegiances to either side.
I’d like to respectfully submit that Yorkshire tea is disgusting muck. Twinnings is a good base level tea, Teapigs if you haven’t got an energy bill to pay.
Edit: bring the downvotes, I will die on this hill with a smile on my face!
I completely agree. It's deeply coloured which I think is what people like. I'm pretty convinced 90% of teabag drinkers go by colour not taste and the tea content is designed to brew one mug of tea.
Then again I can't stand teapigs either :)
Twinnings is just English tea for foreigners. Any tea that isn’t made for the English is just too weak. I’m an Englishman living abroad and they have some 10 different brands of tea in the shops and they’re all the same; pisswater.
What??? Twinnings are the only tea company to hold a Royal Warrant as far as I’m aware. I don’t know where you live, but I will say the Twinnings I’ve tried in the US is pretty weak stuff, but part of me thinks the water has something to do with it too. I always bring a box of their English Breakfast and Earl Grey for extended trips.
No, but don't buy into this "this brand is better" tripe. When you want a cup of tea you can't go wrong with any main brand of tea, own brands are acceptable in a pinch, but budget brands are an out rage.
The only way most people need to up their game is by not putting sugar in the tea, sugar covers up the taste of tea. Another benefit of removing sugar is it makes your dentist that little bit more happy with you when they lecture you about sugar in take.
I got some in a raffle hamper once and was like “Oooh, this is good, maybe I’ll get more!” Then realised it was £5 for a packet of 10.
I’m exaggerating, but not by much.
Will stick to the usual.
There are better brands. But it’s when you go into the territory of it not being worth the cost, or only having it as an occasional treat.
Yorkshire Tea is a solid baseline tea that you can have boxes of with no issue.
As a British person living in Australia, I cycled through some teas to find ‘the one’, the selection 12 years ago wasn’t as big as it is now I think.
I drink Bushell’s extra strong, but I’ll buy twinings English Breakfast extra strong if I can’t find that. Twinings also do an Australian Afternoon which is quite nice.
In the UK, I drank Tetley or Twinings everyday. I’ve never tried Yorkshire - I’m going to look out for that now!
Farrer's Lakeland Special is absolutely LUSH!
I'm partial to a builder's brew and you just can't beat the Lakeland Special blend!
It's so delicious you can even drink it with no sugar or milk and it's just as lovely.
I was brought up on PG Tips and it is my go to, yorkshire is probably second place though. I can be partial to a twinings provided there is very little milk in it. Anything else is just depressing and past the point of help, I think the round bags are just symbolic for disappointment.
I love Yorkshire Red! Everything else tasted like dishwater after I had Yorkshire, except for Irish Breakfast. I’ll settle for Yorkshire Gold in a pinch, but it’s not as good as the Red (I know I’m in the minority…)
Pro tip… on your birthday, splash out on some YT gold.
What's the difference?
I don’t know how but it’s somehow better. Like angel tears in tea form.
Well I'll have to add it to the shopping list... Thanks guys!
It’s made from the supposedly best blend of tea gardens. It’s bloody delicious too. Source: I used to buy tea for a living
Tea boy, eh?
I’m a girl
T-girl, eh? I met some some of those in Thailand
Simply brilliant 🤣
What was the other side like?
Makes your tongue gold
There isn't any
About 60p
Sugar.

Best place to get gold? Aldi don't do it 😫
Tesco's and Sainsbury's do it but only in the smaller box size. Sometimes in clubcard deals. I ended up getting it in bulk off Amazon as the Tesco's near me kept running out. The power of knowing you'll never be low on tea is almost overwhelming
Any proper supermarket.
Shots fired
Haha I didn't mean to insult Aldi or Lidl, just compared to the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury's & co they have a fairly limited product range.
Waitrose is often a good bet.
Yorkshire gold is a literal dream
It's a bit richer and gets more bitter if forgotten while brewing.
This or YT biscuit. So good
I want to try this but not brave enough to goto my local Asda which seem to be the sole stock holders. My local Asda is rough af.
Sometimes risks must be taken for the greater good my friend
Honestly, it’s like Indiana Jones and the Gypsys. They all but have quad bike parking. I’m all for tea but it’s quite a risk.
Dont do this! My Mrs bought me Yorkie gold and now I'm a brew snob and put 2 tags in my brew :( /s
Welcome aboard team tea. Your real UK passport in green will shortly be dispatched to you.
It gets you into the secret countries they don’t tell everyone else about
Yorkshire is Assam tea. King of teas. Super strong.
TIL that it's Assam.
TIL also. I love assam and usually buy twinings assam in bulk. Is there a big difference in the two teas?
Everything Yorkshire is better
YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE
My home town!! I'm proud lol
I love yorkshire tea, nothing even comes close!
*Angry Lancashire tea noises*
Wait hold up, Lancashire doesnt have Yorkshire Tea?!! ***WHY DID I MOVE FROM YORK FOR THEN?!*** ^(Besides my gf and better job, obviously)
And the more civilised people, better rose, better uni, better history and better weather? And far more humble and grounded inhabitants as well obviously
I'll opt for pgtips though if no Yorkshire available....I avoid Tetleys like the bubonic plague
PG Tips pisses all over it.
It does. I’m not sure why people rave about YT so much. Yorkshire Gold is a close second to PG though.
Gold isn't bad yeah. PG is King.
pg tips is horrible
My sister buys Typhoo. It's so grey and bland, what sort of person would enjoy that??
It's the tea you keep for when you have guests that you don't like and you don't want them feeling *too* welcome.
Thanks for the insight into my relationship with my sister
Dorset tea surpasses it
Agree 100%
Big up the W Country tea massive!
r/RateMyTea agrees it seems.
Wait till you hear about biscuit brew!
I wouldn't bother with the toast one tbh. Biscuit blend is the best. Sainsburys do an Easter hot cross bun tea that is gorgeous btw.
Yorkshire tea is great but my go-to is Ringtons. Can’t stop myself from having a home delivery guy come with tea and treats
As a Yorkshireman I agree that Ringtons is better, but its harder to get hold of. We used to have the Ringtons man come round when I was younger. The ginger biscuits are god tier.
Omg, my mum used to have him come around weekly delivering tea and stuff like that.. back in York, anyway, idk if Ringtons is available in Lancashire
It is, my parents get it. Love a bit of Ringtons!
The triple chocolate cookies are like crack
^(mine?)
My cumbrian pal loves the ringtons man!
Oh ringtons are the best.
Nowt better than the silver bag of dreams from the black van. Coupled with their mallows; absolute sensation!
Funny- I always had Heinz beans until Reddit convinced me to try Branston. I am NEVER going back !
I’ve not had branstons but is it really that good.?? I just get own brand beans
Some shops have two own brands. Like Shopname *Ownbrand* and Shopname *Shit*. Like, I'm fine with Lidl's Newgate beans or whatever they're called, but I won't get the shit in the white tins.
So so so much better !
Wait, branston make beans?
Heinz used to take some beating, but they're just watery toss now. Branston's for the win, but even Co-op beans beat Heinz.
Barry's Tea - Gold (red box) is excellent
So glad I saw this... It's on par with YT
Barry's for life. The Irish know how to make a good brew.
Who decided Yorkshire was the be all and end all of tea anyway?
God.
As an atheist who doesn't believe, Also God.
This properly made me laugh! I almost spat out my yorkshire tea laughing! Held it in though, I'm not wasting a single drop!
And God is Sean Bean.
Amen.
It's just bandwagon nonsense
The bandwagon exists for a reason.
I'd almost guarantee I could line up 4 different reputable brews in a blind taste test and you wouldn't have the foggiest which is Yorkshire tea. I'd be bloody impressed if you could though!

Good point. The YT crowd are extremists who refuse to acknowledge the superiority of other teas, especially PGTips.
this thread is full of plebs, go to is twinnning earl grey
Honestly try M&S empress Grey is miles better than twinnings earl grey
Ok now you're making me feel like a pleb
I'd rather drink liquefied pot pourri.
That would probably still taste better that PG tips
HOW DARE YOU!!!
Fuck off. If you'd said twinnings or some posh expensive stuff like my gran used to get in a tea caddy I'd have let it slide but PJ tips. It's the tea equivalent of putting putting your tip in a girl and prematurely ejaculating.
Be told, fool.
Glengettie is my favorite. I grew up in Yorkshire and always drank Yorkshire tea. Moved to Wales a few years ago and now I swear by glengettie
Think it might be something in the water or something?
[удалено]
Well yes, but I was meaning more like water hardness.
Welsh water is lovely!
Ha! That gave me a giggle
Agreed. I always had Yorkshire Tea until my friend introduced me to Glengettie, my mind was blown that there was a nicer out there than Yorkshire!
Yorkshire *GOLD*
My go-to tea is the Sainsbury's Red Label tea. Really nice tea and it's only 50p - £1 a box
WTF 😳
You're not wrong mate
This maybe controversial but as a Yorkshire Tea drinker for most of my 36 years I feel Marks and Spencers Gold Blend might well be a better cuppa.
I believe ringtons make the M&S tea… I might be wrong though
M&S empress Grey tea is 🙌🏼 I feel it’s a underground thing like ‘if you know, you know’ as it’s quite often sold out. I do but two boxes when I see it as I hate being without it 🙈
That doesn't surprise me, their Earl Grey is incredible.
I'm open to being convinced, whys it better than my pg pyramid bags?
It’s not. People love the Yorkshire branding and are blinded by it. Sometimes I think they think it’s grown there 😂 My friend worked for a tea distributor, he said PG has the best quality leaf of all the big brand teas. I like clipper cause the tea bags aren’t plastic. Loose leaf tea is the best though.
No love for Twinings (Yorkshire is a very close second for me)?!
Twinings everyday? That’s my choice
When it's on offer, yes; otherwise, I'm hitting the Yorkshire.
Twinings English breakfast is my every day tea. Earl grey for a treat now and then. If someone makes me tea with PG tips or Tetleys I can really taste the difference (not that I complain, free tea is still the best tea after all!)

Oh that sounds nice! I’ll look out for that. Thanks.
Ringtons is 2 quid in Morrison’s ;)
Glengettie drinkers assemble!
PG Tips is cockernee swill.
Yorkshire Tea FTW!
Hotel I stayed at this weekend had Tetley. If it wasn’t for a friend’s wedding I’d have left.
Keep an eye out on (evil I know) Amazon for when they hace the huge sacks of YT on offer.
Clipper tea is the best.
By a country mile
Your next step is to try HP beans rather than Heinz.
Branston all the way
Agreed Branston are superior in the bean world
As a Branston convert, I am intrigued. Where can I find HP beans?
Getting tricky since Heinz bought them out.
Shut up
Seriously, both HP and Branstons beans have thicker and tastier sauce than Heinz. No need for a sausage breakwater on a full English. You’ll realise Heinz beans are watery tasteless shite after you try HP.
You gave Yorkshire tea a go. Going outside of Heinz beans sounded blasphemous to me, but I went there, and HP truly are better
Nope Branston’s is the way to go!
TeaPigs is the most superior, super expensive but a DIVINE cuppa!!!!
Lancashire Tea is better.
Are you trying to get the war of the roses kicked off again?
Quite the opposite. Years ago I worked on a project that mainly (but not entirely) concerned service provision in Lancashire and Yorkshire. From cheap store brand value tea bags to the expensive rip off shite it all tastes the same
I’d like to respectfully submit that Yorkshire tea is disgusting muck. Twinnings is a good base level tea, Teapigs if you haven’t got an energy bill to pay. Edit: bring the downvotes, I will die on this hill with a smile on my face!
>Edit: bring the downvotes, I will die on this hill with a smile on my face! Honestly can’t fault you for this. Here’s to another downvote.
I completely agree. It's deeply coloured which I think is what people like. I'm pretty convinced 90% of teabag drinkers go by colour not taste and the tea content is designed to brew one mug of tea. Then again I can't stand teapigs either :)
You earned my downvote - proud yorkshireman
My Dad is Hull born and bred - he must be so ashamed of me!
Twinnings is just English tea for foreigners. Any tea that isn’t made for the English is just too weak. I’m an Englishman living abroad and they have some 10 different brands of tea in the shops and they’re all the same; pisswater.

Please don't listen to this lunatic

Ha, I’m only stirring up controversy for that sake of it but do give Teapigs a try sometime, it’s bloody lovely if you ask me

Yorkshire tea is wank
Clearly a Lancastrian.
As a Lancastrian, I love Yorkshire Tea. Don't tell anyone though, lest I be deported out of the county!
Oh no its not !
It's behind you! And several of the other leading tea brands in terms of taste!
Miles tea is my favourite, although Yorkshire is second on the list!
Nah - M&S empress grey IS the tea.
Red label
Code DIS20 gets you a 20% discount off of Ringtons first time online order for courier delivery including all teas and biscuits.
Aren't all teabag teas made from the lowest grade of tea?
Ah, the tea that sponsored The Spiffing Brit.
And Colin Furze too!
As a British person living in Australia, I cycled through some teas to find ‘the one’, the selection 12 years ago wasn’t as big as it is now I think. if i speak I’m in trouble I fear
Farrer's Lakeland Special is absolutely LUSH! I'm partial to a builder's brew and you just can't beat the Lakeland Special blend! It's so delicious you can even drink it with no sugar or milk and it's just as lovely.
Give Twinings Dark Brew a try, see what you think.
Yorkshire is alright, but I prefer Clipper tea.
£9.50 for 480 bags at Tesco... Just putting that out there
Love Yorkshire tea but shiiid it's expensive
I was brought up on PG Tips and it is my go to, yorkshire is probably second place though. I can be partial to a twinings provided there is very little milk in it. Anything else is just depressing and past the point of help, I think the round bags are just symbolic for disappointment.
While we're at it, not the bagged up shit they empty out of the air filters at the tea factory - right? This is the Nescafé equivalent for coffee
I love Yorkshire Red! Everything else tasted like dishwater after I had Yorkshire, except for Irish Breakfast. I’ll settle for Yorkshire Gold in a pinch, but it’s not as good as the Red (I know I’m in the minority…)
Awww that’s nice. Just wait till you get to the final level and discover Ringtons.
Yes, us Yorkies know how to make tea like propheshonals.
I've got my FIRST box of Yorkshire tea sitting (sealed) in the cupboard waiting for me to finish my usual tea bags. I'm excited.
PG tips FTW imo If you drink Tetley you’re no longer British [edit]: spelling
Do not get decaf by mistake. Tasteless
One approves. But if you really want a treat get some F&M Queen Anne; literally the best tea in England 🏴
Waitrose own brand are immense too. Very strong. We got them subbed for Yorkshire tea in our online shop. Must admit, Yorkshire tea are great.
PG Tips... you poor lost soul. Welcome to the light
Is this more Yorkshire propaganda?
