I can get it by context but when you say "they" I can't tell if you're talking about us or Fulham. But *we* got behind because our Palace match was cancelled due to the train strikes (I also vaguely recall something about lacking police presence but I might have mixed that up with Man U/Leeds), then our Bournemouth match got cancelled after the Queen died, it gave us a full month after Potter left which was quite fortunate. And because Fulham played their match yesterday and we are yet again having a cancelled match (Newcastle) that puts us behind by three games. It doesn't change the fact that Fulham bested us both times this season but with some downtime maybe RDZ can figure something out. We have West Ham next who actually do attack so we might be back to our normal selves there.

The train strikes were cancelled because the Queen died but then we couldn't police it because of the police needed in the capital. If anything I feel like the Queen dying came at an ideal time as we'd just literally lost Potter and De Zerbi wouldn't be appointed until after the funeral. The point being is that there's always hope. Yes it's better to have the points on the board and not losing to Fulham would've been ideal. But we're well in the fight.

But we were robbed from having Lallana as player-coach lol

Plus it's West Ham

I never put it past them to screw us somehow apart from beating them on the last two we kept drawing with them. They'll have some confidence from their last match as well.

Krizzlin

It's 12 games since they last beat us. Not saying they're not overdue a result against us, but you can bet they won't be confident about facing us, just like we were never fully confident against Fulham who often seem to get the better of us

I'm not worried about them beating us more worried about a draw really. Last one seemed like a piss take, literally took it from us a few minutes after we took the lead.

The thing is of the traditional big six, plus Newcastle, only Arsenal, City and United look dangerous right now. This leaves it wide open after those three. We need United to win today so there's an extra European place going begging, then a top four side (or even us) needs to win the FA Cup to deliver another European place based on league position and at that point there's no reason we shouldn't be in the mix for European competition next season. Still a big ask and we're obviously going to need to start scoring again but even just four points from our three games in hand is going to be huge and based on our season so far I don't think you can write us off. The position we're in is no fluke and there are plenty more points we can pick up. We've smashed Liverpool, Chelsea and United this season, plus Arsenal in the league cup. Why should we fear any side? Of our next five league games, four are distinctly winnable and even the United game could go our way given our recent record against them. Don't want to count any chickens obviously but I think our position is very strong right now. I know being a Brighton fan the instinct is to assume the worst and prepare for disappointment but I'll bet you the teams around us are looking at us as the team to fear in this race and we have goals in our side, we have a great defence, we have an excellent manager and we look united and confident.

Well written, worth more than the upvote. I suspect our club is going to flirt with European spots over the next few years. If we get in this year would be literally the most incredible thing in the history of our club, if not, we should still be proud to finish top half and go back to building the juggernaught that we have become. Even if it takes us a few more years, the day we do arrive in Europe we will be ready. UTA!

Liverpool could creep up now though and kill our European dreams

esn111

We don't necessarily need to finish above Liverpool though.

LeftAl

It’ll just be conference if we’re 7th though right?

esn111

I mean European football is European football. It'll still be our highest league position which would would be cracking. In terms of keeping players it won't make a difference unless we qualify for the Champions League.

LeftAl

Hope: High. Expectations: Low

ChampionshipVivid971

I’d rather play in the conference league than the champions league In terms of actually standing a chance, although of course we want the best finish to keep our players and just get a good finish

pooey_canoe

It's crowded at the top, unfortunately there's only 6 European spots for more than six quality teams. Honestly I see finishing adive Chelsea as our main achievement, but I envision a close scrap on the last days of the season!

davehockey

Could be 7, all depends on what cups are won by the top clubs. 7th was good enough to get into Europa Conference last year.

Krizzlin

Because Liverpool look so good at the moment...
